@@cyrklife I must say, outside of Disney, this is the better adaptation; and it's surprising that the sequel (Willows in Winter) had very little adaptations; and the only reference to the sequel Book to be found with Disney is when it ended with Toad's new obsession being planes, as Rat, Mole and McBadger were celebrating New Year's Day. I think it's best to say Rik Mayall should be best remembered as Mr. Toad, moreso than Drop Dead Fred.

I've found it after over 28 years and I've watched it only once long time ago as a child. The scene where Mr. Badger, wearing a bathrobe, opens the door to the frozen Ratty and Mole, and a warm light pours out from inside, is amazing.
I don't think I could ever empathise how much I love this film. And years I have dreamed for a Blu-ray or some HD version of the film to be released. Although some detail is lost, this AI upscale is the next best thing. Thank you!
@@spacedinvaders I upscale films myself. The smoothed together linework and loss of detail when the characters are smaller is a dead giveaway that it's upscaled with AI. Not only that, but also the blotches of weird grainy textures that show up in the background from time to time.
always some stories that people carry with them throguh life ,even if not thinking on them.. it dont spark as much resonance for me with this one but it do make me smile and feel some faint echo's of some day of yore lost in the mists of memories turned to vague mists.. that do how ever remind me of another story i.. think ,was a book before it was turned into a 'episodic' summer thing for kids.. I remember seeing the Making Of a while ago, and it was a fascinating glimpse into the work and care that went into every aspect of it. I take my hat off to you! My family and I watch it every Christmas. I have never seen Willows in Winter - I have to admit that I’m so fond of the original that I’ve been a bit wary of the sequel! Did you work on that too?
@@philipjennings3490 yes I did, It's just as good, its the same production and voices, the bit when the red plane flies under the bridge, that was me. I got it because it was the difficult bit, the first bit of computer animation used in the UK.

I will say the engine driver is called Arnold and he is awesome, he certainly helped Toad escape from the law and also Toad would no doubt have thanked Arnold and paid him some money for his help and trouble. Toad also no doubt wrote a letter of thank you to Veronica the jailers daughter, to thank her and also he would have bought Veronica a nice present a necklace and also some chocolates and a new dress for her aunt Harriet and he would have found Margaret the bargewoman and given her some money for a new horse and also said sorry to Margaret for stealing her horse and selling it to Colin the gypsy who gave Toad six shillings and sixpence for the horse.
and before anyone wants to be a kill joy , yes we all know moles be blind when in the sun.. as they are nearing to lose their eyes evolutionary ,but this is a fable world where all creatures only needs to 'want' it to have eyes and tongues to see and speak ;) mm...this reminds me of a little part of the book that made me sort of sad though as a youth... the mole forgot where his home was it took them kind of a lot of adventures to stumble over it agen , and for as much he needed to explore in the books at least it was clear he left a piece of his heart still in his perhaps quaint but cozy and warm burrow.
I do say the locations in this film are awesome in billions of ways, and also Veronica the jailers daughter is kind caring and also goodhearted and people like Veronica are few and far between . I would trust Veronica with my life, and she is a kind girl and if I was in Toads position and Veronica offered me the chance to escape from the jail disguised as a washerwoman by lending me her aunt Harriets dress and bonnet I would jump at the chance and say yes please Veronica and I would be delighted to dress up as a washerwoman and escape to freedom . I do say Veronica was probably a Girl Guide who would have taken the Guide promise to do her best to serve God, serve the Queen, help other people and keep the Guide law I also say Toad would later have thanked Veronica for her help, by buying a nice present and also writing her a thank you letter and also buying her aunt Harriet a new dress to replace the one Veronica lent him . Toad would also have thanked Arnold the engine driver and sent him some money, and a letter of thank you for all his help and also Toad would have given money to Margaret the bargewoman to buy herself a new horse and also say sorry for stealing her horse.
you have to admit toad and lord flashart are a little bit similar in personality to each other. imagine if toad called the policeman a pleb like andrew mitchell did lol
@10:26 Mole needs to learn some manners . It's rude to try to take over someone else's things . Especially when they were kind enough to give you a ride and something to eat . In contrast, Rat was much more forgiving of Mole's bad behavior than he deserved .
