- Excellent instructional video featuring Hung Gar master Chiu Chi-Ling. You may remember Ling from a number of old school kung fu movies such as Jackie Chan's Snake in the Eagles Shadow and many more.
I'm trying to learn Hung Gar for disipline reasons. Before anyone says (then join a school you won't learn nothing on the internet) people have learned how to repair phones, dance, ride horses, train dogs, learn math equations, and hell even prepare for giving birth. Yes having a master to re-enforce your actions and movements is a blessing but when you are less privileged and all you have is a glowing box with the info of the world you take advantage. Maybe one day I'll go to a school, but atleast I won't go into that school knowing nothing ^__^ Pray to meet Grand Master Chiu Chi Ling in the flesh one day!!
lobo_de_las_estepas My boyfriend and my friends cover that. Thankyou for the added tip ^__^
lilkittyanime just remember that no martial art is good if it does not feel natural to you. modifying any technique after some practice with it is very encouraged.
good luck. i know you can do it.
I'm trying the same
if i learn form from this sifu, does that mean my lineage is Chiu Chi Ling?
howd that work out for ya?
Word To that! Hung Gar is an excellent system. Currently training under Grandmaster Wing Lam's 20th disciple! What an honor to be trained by such a great man and martial artist!
Its so weird to watch this expecting rocks and earth attacks and then nothing happens, it feels like those elements are missing lol
I came from Avatar too :3
Hung gar looks sick. I always thought hung fu just was people dancing with no applicable moves in a real situation. But now, I am definitely going to learn it!
Choy Li Fut is probably the most different of the three, as is incorporates more of the five animal systems. The stances in CLF are higher than Hung Gar, but not as high as Wing Chun. CLF also combines techniques of Northern and Southern Kung Fu, giving it high kicks, long range attacks, circular movements(hooks, uppercuts), multiple direction attacks and defenses, weapons, and lots of grappling, making it a truly complete system. I'd learn all three if I could.
Hung Gar, Wing Chun, Choy Li Fut....the top three southern Kung Fu styles.
Those sound effects though
Lol
"Gung Fu is Power Concealed in Elegance.."
I do all 3, my Sifu is a fan for using what works and having a range of styles for different situations. He also incorporates some jiu-jitsu and chin-na/chin yi for grapple work and take-downs, but our main style is 50% WC, 20% HG, 20% CLF, 10% other styles for more locks and takedowns. I love my school.
I love watching this demonstration.
Great my Grand Master Chiu Chi Ling
when i was young that was my favorite style
CHIU CHI-LING IS A LEGEND IN KUNG FU MOVIES.
Reginald Johnson i tot he was just an actor. But he is a real life hung gar master
Watching Chou Chi Ling do that form was a treat. The power on display there was incredible.
Nice. I'll be studying this for my Toph cosplay xD
and they're all based around the crane and tiger. Wing Chun has a bit of snake mixed in, as Choy Li Fut has leopard. They also blend quite nicely, with most techniques being interchangable depending on the range you want to work in.
@popsjnr: Regardless, Chiu Chi Ling looks real fit in this video. I still respect this guy.
Kungfu Hustle! Ever saw this in any once upon a time in china films.
this is very retro, I love it, old style gung fu training
Awesome video
Interesting!
Amazing action sequence. WoW!! Gurukulam communication are also promoting kalaripayattu the traditional art form of kerala must visit & Suggest us. Thank you .

Chiu Chi-Ling is actually on facebook (hopefully it's him and not an imposter) if anyone wants to see what he's doing currently
such beauty o; cheesy Hollywood sound effects aside, it's a beautiful dance
the first video with the same narrator i've watched is Art of High impact kicking.
so, is there any other martial arts video like this?
god damn do I wish people in real life would fight like this
Thanks for posting!!
I think Toph doesn´t fight Hung gar. She fights Praying Mantis. At that cartoon, only the regular earthbanders fight hung gar. ;)
Good luck with your cosplay. I prefer to have Hung Gar as a hobbie.
she does the southern praying mantis, both ar southern styke martial arts, thats why southern praying mantis is also earthbending.
it seems to be. I looked it up online and found similar masters doing this form.
thanks im gonna try doing that for 2 hours
@rosc2876 The tension is always there even when flowing so when you see people doing the form, you can tell if they are good or not if they are able to incorporate the tension within the flowing movements. I'm guessing the reason why he's doing the form this way is to show people new to the style all the tension that's incorporated. Softness within hardness, hardness within softness
what if theirs no one to practice with?
Yeah, dynamic tension makes you huge.
But his leg strength comes from sitting in Horse Stance all day
O just realized hes the same guy in kung fu hustle
good style
when Sifu Ling starts the form the music sounds like the end fight music from Fearless Hyena or maybe it is.
Learning a lot of forms, isn't always good.... You have to learn it correct and really understand it. An important part is, is the knowledge of your teachers.
By the way a lot of video's on youtube are giving a bad example (not saying that this video is bad) of martial art techniques.
That was the longest verson of the tiger/crane form I've ever seen
Does dynamic tension make you look like that? You eventually become buff? of does he also lift weights?
What are the top Northern Kung-Fu Styles?
Tiger vs Crane 🐯🐦
@90spower if u dont want others to tell u what to do then dont come n watch this video instead man
@popsjnr his fu hok form has alot of breathing and power into it......so its gonna look weird
That's good. So then you'll basically know how to take techniques from this video and be able to integrate them into your fighting and practice. Regarding dragon style.. it's one of the lesser known and really less popular styles. Even in all the older kung-fu movies it's hardly really shown. There are over 200 styles, and out of those only a dozen or so are really popular or well known among kung-fu fans and martial artists alike. Many others have even become lost. Thanks.
Cool to see
do you know how to get kung fu reflexes cause im wondering how to defend myself in middle school and i leran kung fu
haha glad im not the only one! :)
☝️👊👊👊👊👍👍
If you mind your caloric intake yes.
I don't mean to troll, but did you also learn those from videos?
how can kung fu be related to spiritual progress in buddhism?
my crane style is so strong ill rip the wings off of lucifer
I just came to learn earthbending
DHARMA
after training Hung Gar for 2 years my slong grew much bigger so now I just sling that around and knock people out with that instead,,,,,
why is his style of hung gar different? can someone clarify?
Squishypride Hmm I would say it just like what bruce lee did. He learned things from 3 different teaches but in the end he used those styles to make it into his own thing that worked effectively for him. And it won't look the same as his teachers but it would work perfect for him.
ive looked at others that have demonstrated forms and his looks a little different is all. i'm not knowledgeable on hung gar forms and whatnot so thats why I ask.
i do :D
ohh no,,chinese sound effects...sigh!!
... it's hung gar lol.. it's grand master Chiu Chi Ling....
Is it possible for a disabled person to learn hung ga?
bryce vinson It depends on your disability, but most people can learn every martial art to some extent.
Voffsing1 I have cerebral palsy
Thanks for the info
Thank you sir
+bryce vinson You can do it, i seen wing chun guy with one hand and jiujitsu practitioners with no legs and arms. You can train, go to a good kung fu school. Sorry for bad english.
This must have seemed like the shizzle back in the day, now it’s just ridiculous
He is doing Fu Hok isn't he?
thiers no style better or worse.traditon is when ppl fought alot for thier life.ppl trained a part of there body to pierce the skin.or trained there skin not to be pierced.have confidence in whatever style you practice and dont be so concernedwith others opinion...how many ppl who train would fight and start to brawl rather than wait and block.....your technique usually starts with you being attacked..not by what someone said.....
lower your stances your qusow is supposed to be circular
I am a student of Ngo Cho Kun a system not unlike hung gar
and your cranes beak is supposed to be circular ur making a ducks beak
can't believe people are still punching air and calling in martial arts.
Have to mention that this video was recorded 30 year-ago, and even now this old guy can kill you with one punch......
Punching in air? Seems you know nothing about martial arts.
Perhaps you might think those MMA or "practical" street fight are real martial arts.
The reality is the best fighters never fight in the rings, demonstrating like an actor... (The show are controlled by some parties and they earn huge cash)
The Best fighter are the coach of military service.
All these Kung fu guys "punching in air" are invited to different countries' military and teach martial arts.
Alex KinPong Lo
hahahaha......sure thing dopey.
Some impressive Kungfu skills have survived until today, I think Traditional CMA is recovering.
Is... is that the gay fairy from kung fu hustle???
all of the fake sound affects of his actions is distracting,in a kung fu moves ok what ever, but this is like a instructional video.
Dude, you're trying to learn a fighting style from a youtube video... my answer would be 0% of it
this guys form is terrible
Great my Grand Master Chiu Chi Ling
Hate to double dip, but I scrolled to see all comments and the name of the game with fu hok is dynamic tension. I know he looks like he's gonna pop an eyeball, but through the opening moves of the form chi is cultivated through, well basically Qi Gong, extremely hard Qi Gong. My fist 3 mo. Of training was almost all Qi Gong, and conditioning, or as my sifu says "Gung Fu strength". I didnt learn a form ( our first being lau gar) and only a frew basic blocks and strikes. Fu hok emphasizes breat
what the meaning of being contracted like this? get slow and don't get any power at the end. If he trained at the university with real wushu athletes, he would hear quite often the word "relax" pronounced by the coaches... Relax chiu chi ling!
theres a reason to why we do this, but i think you know that already. so dont tell a master what to do. btw, are u german?
So he's from India🤔
@mcy9123
I agree, I competed at a national tournament recently and there was an older guy in a kung fu ring on his own who started doing the form and I was amazed but then other people started laughing and asking what he was doing, obviously most people don't realize it is meant to help you practice your breathing.
The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Bak Sil Lum(Nothern Shaolin), Xingyiquan, Eagle Claw, and Northern Praying Mantis.
"..emasculate, or even kill.." Sheez, skip the emasculate part; just kill me.
The narrators voice is awesome.
