the most wild part of the original book is that the author (delia owens) was questioned for killing someone in a foreign country and is still wanted and the character kya is basically her self-insert about being accused of murder
In the book it’s a little more apparent that Kya killed Chase, the poem about the firefly really symbolizes she’s the one who did it - she tricked the whole town with her intelligence, the ultimate F U to them!
If you actually read the book it's very clear that Kya killed him, Kya is kind and gentle but she lives with the law of nature throughout her life so it's probably her instinct to eliminate "threats" on her life, especially with everything she witnessed from her dad.
Honestly.. I’ve already read the book AND watched the movie but i still watched the whole video cuz i just wanted to listen to stephanie narrating the story lmao. She’s a stress reliever atp
If we consider the theory of Kya being the one who killed Chase, I think perhaps her refusing to admit guilt perhaps goes along with what she says at the beginning, about how death in the marshes isn't a sin 👀
@@Nickelberkelium Nvm, I went to check. It would absolve Tate but it wouldn't be Kya's guilt in the first place when she's the one in jail awaiting trial for her supposed actions, so I think the quote is more relevant if it's applied when her own actions are the ones in question. But it's up to interpretation in the end.
Stephanie, in the movie where tate finds a necklace, there's a description about the praying mantis and why it kills it's mate, implying it's more likely she killed chase.
NOOOO, it was Kya!!! Even admits it in her poem and was just sneaky and hopeful that she would get away with it. Tates reaction was shock, not relief that she took the blame. If it was him, he wouldn’t have been shocked to find that notebook etc
Also, if he did, it wouldn't be nice that knowing she was innocent, he wouldn't step forward and confess even at the risk of her getting the de*th penalty. It would go against his desire to protect her and his deep love for her.
The book is definitely more immersive and more emotionally heavier, but the movie adaptation is also a wonderful work. I’m so glad you made a video about this! I’ve been waiting on it!
In the book it makes it more clear, but Chase doesn't actually rape Kya on the beach after she finds out about Pearl. He attacks her and does try, but she hits him with that rock, kicks him then gets away.
Yes! I came to comment on this detail exactly, because I remembered quite clearly when l watched the movie, like a year ago, that she defended herself so fiercely and when Stephanie said that, I actually went to check directly, because I wasn't sure anymore, lol. But yeah, he is actively trying to undress himself, pinning her down, when she hits him with the rock and leaves insulting him. Her shorts and all her clothing are on and not undone, all ok, and his are on too, so the message is clear that he was going to, but he didn't. I was sure it didn't happen because is one of those super triggering topics for me. In any case, the storytelling in both movie and here are awesome. 😅
I actually didn't like this book so I didn't finish it or watch the movie, but I'm so glad you covered it so I can still hear the story because I always like your storytelling 😌
I read the book and I literally called my aunt everyday to tell her what was going on in the book. Then about a year or so later she calls me and tells me they made a movie for the book and we went to the movie theatre's together to watch it.
At the end of it, it's actuslly Kya admitting she was the one who killed Chase. The poem she was writing under a pen name, regarding the praying mantis.
I haven't watched the movie because of the same reason as Stephanie. After reading the book, I want to stay in the imaginary world which I've created while reading the book and don't want to question it after watching the movie. But I've heard great reviews of the movie so I'm sure it was done fantastically. I just want to say this but I think this book contains some of the prettiest sentences I've ever read. When I read some of the lines, I genuinely used to stare at a wall and let that sink in for a minute.
The movie is good, one of the best actually, but the book is more vivid, reading the book after the movie helps, especially with the marsh, I was sort of expecting brown waterways, a tiny cottage near the water, absolutely little to no trees, at least the flowering kind and imagine my surprise when I watched the movie, it was so beautiful but also so rushed 😭
Stephanie you don’t understand how much I appreciate your consistent content!! I’m sure I’m not the only one. Truly thank you for your hard work biss❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi biss! I just wanted to let you know that I watched this movie yesterday with my husband and spent a good hour arguing with him that we had already watched it, until I realised I heard this BAM and your storytelling is so profound and amazing that you had painted a picture in my head of this movie making me believe I had already watched it. You're amazing and soooo talented! ❤️
It's a very different genre of movies you reviewed compared to your other BAMs, but honestly, it's such a nice one after a long while for me. I love how you depicted all the emotionals, both positive and negative, so real and so well. Hope to see some other interesting similar BAMs as well

Hey Stephanie :) just an idea that i think could be cool. Could you maybe try doing mukbangs with foods from different cultures/countries and then do a story or conspiracy from that place? Hope you’re doing well!
I love this book! I immediately clicked when I saw. The only critique I have is the amount of long exposition about her living in the marsh and pages upon pages of her describing and collective feathers 😂.
I live in coastal north carolina, it's absolutely stunning. The marshes and swamps are both incredible. As is the ocean and the mountains- and of course the rolling hills and farmlands in between. We have the most biodiversity in the entire continent when it comes to number of tree species.
Another part about the end that broke me was as she was dying she saw a vision of her mother walking from the marsh to her and the camera pans back to kya and kya is a child again and walks off holding her mothers hand 🥹
I’ve had the book on my list for a while but never got around to reading it, I throughly enjoyed listening to this rendition, always great storytelling on this channel. But did y’all know the author was wanted for questioning in a real life murder investigation?
