Do not sugar coat it by saying what could have been. We lack game management in the last quarter. We need to be able to just close opposition down. We didn't need more points.

    @rory7590 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

I think the issue with the last quarter actually stems from the team tactics. We are picking a speed-based loose forward combination with an intent on moving the ball wide - rapidly and continually. The ABs have passed way more ball than any other team in the Championship. This has created opportunities - which haven’t always been taken - but the lack of direct, driving play means that they aren’t tiring teams whilst ultimately running out of steam themselves.

Offering a different perspective: if you ask a coach from endurance sports about the reasons why an athlete / team may be regularly suffering from a drop in performance later in an event they'd likely look for explanations like: chronic over-training, high fatigue levels going into the event, poor pre-event fuelling, poor intra-event fuelling, poor effort balance across the event, inadequate cardiovascular fitness levels etc. Looking at the ABs loss of intensity later in games this season, these physiological explanations may be a better fit than tactical explanations. Maybe the new coaching team's strength and conditioning coaches have not found the right balance this season?

Boys, left field question that I’ve been thinking about. Do you think Roigard could be converted into a 10. He’s unbelievably composed and intelligent, he has a running game, a very good kicking game that could potentially evolve to a kicking game at 10. This also allows us to have Ratima and Roigard combo which could be potentially craaaaazy. Interested to hear Bryn’s thoughts as a halfback and having been in a combination with one of the best 10’s in the world in Richie.

@@MLF-kq8ut yeah that’s kinda where I was getting the idea from. Would be interesting to hear the boys thoughts about how difficult it would actually be for a 9 to move to first five, do they think that Roigards skillset would transfer well or would being the game driver take away from his instinctive attacking style he has at 9. Like would the stress of being a 10 and having to know all the plays as well as trying to play heads up footy and learn a whole new defensive role suit Cam? Also the ABs use their first fives to cover bombs as well would this suit Cam, or would they change the game plan around him so that it wasn’t part of his role? I think it’s an interesting area to explore.

D Mac is a chaotic fly in the bottle player, the rest of the backline never know what he plans to do.
Our numbers 1-8 lack the rugby IQ to grind a game down. And they are not punching the gainline, that's a form and talent issue imho.

Rassie was at fault for the loss. Playing Tonyball with 10 changes, and putting Libbok to close out the game was a disaster, made worse by the Boks reverting to Bok rugby in the last quarter with the completely wrong flyhalf for that force penalty and kick for goals job. Its not Manie's fault because we arent now just discovering he has no BMT under pressure, its been known for years. Why was he even put into that position which is not in his skillset in the first place? Absolute shambles.

Libbok is not a bench player. He either starts or he doesn’t play. His creativity makes him probably the best attacking 10 in the world, we all know what he can do off front foot ball. We also know about his goal kicking, which is why you bench Pollard in the sense that you can just bring him off the bench to kick penalties. I beg to differ with James about the "trust" issue with Plummer seeing they kinda had to let him come on in order to make his debut as an AB. That was kinda exactly the same for Stephen Perofeta when we lost against Argentina in Christchurch 2022. Razor might have done that alot during his tenure as the Crusaders coach but this is Test foot we are talking about. If you are mentioning the yellow cards then why did they not bring him on sooner? Week in week out we are hearing about learnings from the coaching staff but clearly the bench is where we are not learning.
I hope Razor can just let the new kids loose on the park this weekend. The bledisloe is already won and we are not winning the championship.
    Please consider this:
    1 - Williams
    2 - Amua
    3 - Tosi
    4 - Darry
5 - Barrett (only because he is the captain)

Carlos Spencer had many years of inconsistent kicking and was always being considered for chances.
In the case of Scott Barrett, the change in form is due to a change in locking partner. When he played alongside Retallick he established a particular pattern of play where he could really target his strengths. He’s not quite established the same relationship with Vaa’i yet.

Go back and watch games where McKenzie is under pressure, watch how he loses his rugby IQ. Bryn (sp) just said as much in the video. Watch how he loses all sense of playing for territory and panics kicking the ball straight back to the opposition, watch how much pressure that puts on the All Black defense, watch how it makes them give penalties and earn cards. He's more of a cost than a plus in those situations. This is why so many people are calling for him to be an impact bench player. This is why he's copping so much flak.

Our fitness is not as great as everyone assumes. We have had multiple 4th quarter collapses over the past few years including Melbourne 2022 and Twickenham 2022. This is an ongoing issue that is plaguing our game. All Blacks fitness coach Nick Gill need to improve the fitness of the players.
Because we are tired, our game collapses in the last 20 minutes as the opposition puts us under severe defensive pressure which leads to discipline issues. Even our carries and cleans deteriorated badly in the last 20 minutes. We carried and cleaned well for 60 minutes of that game and then there was a significant drop off in the last 20 minutes. That’s a fitness issue. We need to try a 6-2 split on the bench having 2 extra loose forwards. Bring them on in the 50th minute and give them a good 30 minutes to impact the game.

These guys think the AB loose forward trio is set...they are so wrong. Yes, Sititi is a great find...but is he really best at 6? Is Ardie really best at 8? And who should be playing at 7? Cane is not performing to his usual standards and is a very one-dimensional loosie. Papali'i is out of form and also a fairly one-dimensional player. I still believe we need a tall lineout option at 6 and see Vai'i as a natural 6...and a back-up 5. He's in the mold of a PSDT or Maro Etoji...a dominant force at the breakdown and disruptor on the opposition's lineout. He's played very well at 5 but is not the tall timber and enforcer we need there. I think Razor should be starting Vai'i at 6 this weekend with Darry starting at 5. I'd move Sititi to 8 and Ardie to 7 with Blackadder covering the three loosie positions off the bench...and Samipeni Finau or Jacobson added if we decide to use a 6:2 split. Sam Cane did not do enough last week to warrant his selection this week. On the end of year tour we need to take Peter Lakai to see if he can cut it at 7 at the top level. And the coaches may decide to bring Sotutu in from the cold instead of taking Jacobson if they believe he has developed the maturity to keep a lid on his emotions and social media outbursts -- very disruptive for the squad.

All the reasoning and positives seem to reflect what is usually successful in Super Rugby. The last seven years have shown decreasing returns for that style as tighter defences and team management tactics at test level have countered it. I would agree that simplifying the strategy and tactics in the first and final quarters could be effective IF players skill sets and execution were matched to the positions that got them into the squad in the first place. B.Barrett, Jordan, J.Barrett, Ioane, DMac, Savea, Sititi all being played out of their principal successful positions. I’m hearing a lot of excuses (sorry, “rationalising”) about team strategy, tactics, and management. I heard the same excuses initially about the wobbles at the Crusaders this year. They seem to have turned out to more likely be what they appear to be… failings that lead to poor performances. “Our team is doing so well…” This is our worst season since 2009 and would need to get a lot better to convince me this is progress not deterioration. I was really impressed with the effective attack and defense of the Wallabies back row, and how they put pressure on the ABs connection between pack and backline. Would love to see some analysis of why and how that worked. It seems to me a factor in turning the momentum in the game.

The All Blacks don't have enough ball carriers compared to South Africa and Ireland. The pack is heavily reliant on Savea, Taylor and now Sititi with the rest being pretty ineffective..........Akira Ioane, Lakai, and Sotutu were the biggest pack ball carriers in Super Rugby that haven't been picked for the ABs squad.
To emphasis this point, against Australia, the whole of the rest of the ABs pack carried for 41 metres in total (Cane 1m, Lomax 2m, Williams 3m). Pieter Steph Du Toit carried that same amount himself vs Australia in their 1st test with the Boks.
The Blues had the least amount of tries scored against them, the best tackling, carries and metres gained, line-outs and rucks won in the Super rugby season and yet only made up 17% of the 23 man squad vs Australia.
The Blues demolished the running game of The Chiefs in the grand final and yet The Chiefs made up 30% of the 23 man squad vs Australia. FYI - Crusaders were 22%.
Not enough emphasis is being given to pack carries and game management and too much is being given to the running game of the backs in particular the 9 and 10, which has been proven not to work e.g. The Chiefs in the grand final of Super Rugby and France with Antoine Dupont. The issue with the 10 running so much (and the ABs 10 has run more than any other in the Rugby Championship) is that it makes the pack have to work harder to clear rucks which leads to fatigue come the latter stages of the game. In effect, the ABs are starting fast with their running game but then finding that they have "shot their load" because when fatigue sets in the pack is ineffective at ball carrying and there is a lack of game management to get themselves out of their own 22. When the bench comes on, they are not making an impact because ball carriers haven't been chosen for the squad.
So, it comes down to the tactics which have been chosen and the squad which has been selected, IMO.
A compromise position would be to have forward pack ball carriers and a game manager on the bench so that come the second half they can switch from a more Chiefs back-centred attack to a Blues forward-centred attack. In fact, it might be better to reverse this order and start with a forward-centred attack......it's clear that they cannot play for a whole 80 minutes using just one style of play.
