  • Billie Eilish and Finneas brought their fashion A-game to the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. The brother-sister duo told Access Hollywood's Scott Evans on the red carpet how they prepared for the awards ceremony. "My thought was corset. I'm preparing mentally and physically for the day of a corset and heels," Billie said. "This is not a day that comes many times for me so when it comes it's like okay, here we go. Being a girl today. I don't usually wake up and like choose girl, but I did today," she added. On the red-carpet Billie also read America Ferrera's iconic "Barbie" monologue and revealed why it's "upsetting." "That monologue, it's so upsetting," she said. "Every time I hear any of it, I'm like 'No I don't want to hear this right now. I'm trying to enjoy my day. I don't need America telling me the truth of life and being a woman. But I do like, we all do," she added.

I love how Billie Eilish doesn't shy away from expressing how certain narratives, like the 'Barbie' monologue, can be unsettling yet necessary. Her honesty in saying that it's upsetting, yet acknowledging the need for such truth-telling in media, speaks volumes about her perspective as an artist.

This is one of her best outfits. The monolog is sad but it needed to be said for everyone to hear.

America’s monologue was the best part of the movie. It’s so true, every word. So relatable and so understood by every woman. I balled during that, because the pressure and confusion on girls and women is something only we experience.

Greta's 'Little Women' had the same type of monologue and it worked so well there. The Barbie monologue felt forced and I was kind of cringing when I watched it. I don't know if it was the delivery that didnt work or if it was the fact she used the same speech in another way. Its too overused I guess?

Interesting you mention this, I kept hearing about America's speech and when I heard it I also thought it was just ok. Florence's delivery was powerful and and even Saorsie's "I'm so lonely" speech felt more powerful than America's. To me, a key thing is that America is a solid actress and I applaud what she does, but Florence and Saorsie are on another level.

barbie feels like a movie that is addressed to women of 2015 but when it comes to 2023 it just feels redundant and the way they insert the monologue just doesn’t feel right. It would be better if America’s audience were real women instead of Barbies. I mean the old woman’s delivery is much better.

yep. if i were in greta's shoes, i may have been thinking, 'ok, now i need to give some sort of ANSWER or huge takeaway or 'ah-ha' from this whole thing'.... but it's really really not needed. and it seems WEIRD, but honestly, the movie. would stand. for itself. you know how much we interpret from the SIMPLEST paintings? you can go on and on and on.
it was too on the nose, ur right.
with who was in the movie, as well as the social climate,, as well as social media etc,, this message could've been EASILY. EASILY. drawn.
and if not, that's what press tours and interviews are for.
if *I * was doing it and also had a lot of trust, I would let it BREATHE. so much more. SO MUCH. because ALREADY with the barbie movie, you know who is the winner. you know the point. you know you know you know.
      silence is half the symphony.
