As I've said before I am so glad to be a subscriber and this video is an example of just why that is............... I am constantly seeing whole new genres through your channel not all of which are my "cup o'tea" but all are interesting and expanding for the mind. This is wonderful and in a way reminds me of Lara Fabian .............. that is in the manner that language is not a barrier to emotional expression - many of Lara's performances are in French or Italian or whatever and I can still feel the emotions even though I don't speak the language ( actually I speak two languages - poor English and downright rotten English ). I loved this song..........it spoke to me. I look forward to more - take it twice

Please do a few on Ahmad Zahir English translation songs. His opera voice, composition and poems will make one appreciate his music. He was and is the legend of Afghanistan.
The shah of Iran titled him “Almase Sharq” Diamond of the East

Thank you for your reaction to this song❤️Translation of this song for you dear Matt 🌹
    My Eyes
My eyes, come to assist me,
My chicks are dry, do something,
Is there anything can be done except crying?
    We are hopeless, weep
The one who is gone will never come back
My heart wants to cry forever.
All the seas God has on earth with all the clouds in the sky
I wish he had given all of that to my eyes
So they could cry for me
The one who is gone will never come back
My heart wants to cry forever.
The happy tales of my past
Has ended so fast like a dream
Now I must put my head on my knees and forever shed the tears of regret,
Nobody’s heart has as much sadness as mine
Nor nostalgia and sorrow like mine
Now that crying is the cure for my pain,
Why my eyes lacking the tears.
They have stolen our bright sun
    And drawn dark clouds underneath
    Everywhere dark colour of sadness
Our staying time is near its end
The one who is gone will never come back
My heart wants to cry forever.
Destiny has gone blind and cannot see
The scar of its blade will stays in the heart
Sealed lips, chest stained with blood
That is the story of the one who stays behind
The one who is gone will never come back
My heart wants to cry forever.

About the story of the song:
The song writer’s dad passed away. On his way to his dads funeral, he was in a bus to another city, during the sunset. And he was overwhelmed, and hence the conversation with himself….
And the chorus of The one that has left will never return.

I've always loved Middle Eastern music it makes me sway when I hear it. I've heard the Q'uran sung/recited and that's beautiful too. You're right about the slight Italian sound to it and the flamingo guitar is incredible.

Can't believe I missed Matt's reaction to Dariush until now! Anyway just to add my tuppence worth. Dariush first released this song in 1970's I believe; and has attempted to revamp it into the 21st century version with this performance. Also, it is widely believed that he's about sixty percent deaf, that's why he often adjusts and re-adjusts his earpiece. Anyway great choice Matt. More from Dariush please. I can see he may not necessarily send your viewing figures through the roof but I'm sure although it matters it's not your prime objective.

You hear Italian because Iran was in the middle of the Mesopotamian civilization and because of its location, it exported/influenced both east and west a lot. Also the Persian empire spread all the way to Spain, so yes, lots of Persian influence that westerners are not aware of.

Hello Matt. Daryoush or Darius in yours, came to rise in late 60´s This is one his older songs. His music is generally melo drama and anguish to rebelion for justice to the cause of underdog. He was put in political jail for his songs. Darius was the son of an Azarbeijani land lord during feodal Iran. After the Iran´s so called white revolution they lost all their lands. Ironically, Azerbeijan was pro communist during WWII but Shah with help of America defeated them. In my opinion, the abolition of feodalism in Iran was no brainer since Azarbeijan was looking up to their Soviet counterparts who were mechanizing their agriculture , thus ending the land lord and farmer situation where farmer would share harvest with landlord as payment for using his land. So, Shah had to buy off all lands from land lord by giving them stocks in industries that governmnt was creating using oil income. This however was not favored by some land lords. The net effect was that village life and the agrrerian system ended to leave few farmers take over the farming industry and rest pretty much homeless heading for big cities looking for jobs. This became the underlying grivance which created opposition to Shah in years to come.

Hello Dear Matt. I hope you are Okay and doing well. As an Iranian and a Homayoun Shajarian fan I highly recommend that you react to the song (Havaye Zemzemehayat) (هوای زمزمه هایت) which can be translated to (the mood of your whispers). Personally it is my favorite song of Homayoun and of all times. It's lyrics are based on two Iranian poems by contemporary poets. I guarantee that your heart will be filled with emotion after you listened to it. Love from Iran dear Matt🇮🇷💐

it's funny we listen to the same words. someone thinks it's about a man losing his dad. another believes it's about people losing their king. it's the same with many of Persian lyrics. it's hard to tell if a poem is truly about worldly love or celestial yearnings.

I have a recommendation for you based on you liking this type of music, there is an artist called Tamino Amir who sings in English but has a mix of styles due to his mixed background.
I recommend one of his newest songs, The first disciple
or Habibi, his most popular song.

With all do respect I am very surprised that you have not looked into turning the subtitles on, particularly when every other reviewer has done it for this song particularly when you were told exactly what this song was all about and why it was written as this is not just an emotional song it’s a very deep soulful painful song particularly for any one who has lost a loved one in their life and can’t cope with their loss. Honestly this song really deserves a better impression than what it got. Not understanding what it’s said does not do it justice as this is an iconic song that touches every Persians deeply in many ways than one.
    I am not hating just saying, that’s all . . .
