The IWATA ECLIPSE HP-CS (long term review)

  • Let's take a look at my favorite airbrush ever made, the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. The eclipse is a dual action, gravity fed airbrush with a .35mm needle and nozzle. This makes it an excellent choice for a general use airbrush. Within this airbrush review I'll go over all the data I'd want to know before buying an airbrush including spray characteristics, air speed, and controllability.

      @@jc2200 well i tried thinning them out.. still have over a dozen. im not even sure of how many ive had so yes although at this point ive tried most everything. I have no desire for an h&s So the ones that don't sit are..
      The eclipse (2 of them one setup as .5 one setup as .35) the 270 and the badger omni. The 290 comes out for some small stuff here and there. and is well a different use case. The 289 sits close for backup And then lately the cheap timbertech ag183 k has taken over a lof from the omni. The rest are not really sitting in waiting but available. which are.
      the patriot, grex xgi in .2 , an olympos micron, point zero micron knockoff modified slightly, a badger 100 sg that i never use and a sotar i never use, a krome that i need to order a new nozzle for after losing sits in a box, And an anthem a bottle fed eclipse and another hpcs... then there are some more sitting in boxes I cant really be sure what all is in. And there are the two 130 airbrushes.. a master and a timbertech. (master g22 same as a bd130 fengda)
      But I did give some away and recently sold my side freed eclipse and one of my hpcs's. There is not much on the market i really feel the need to buy. But I wouldnt be suprised if I did.. actually there is one someone keeps asking about......

    Hi there! Absolutely love your channel, all your tutorials. You are an absolute master at this and the sole reason I’m getting back into art. Thank you so much for this. Silly question. I have the eclipse HP-CS, When you say working at 20 psi, do you mean 20 psi with just air passing through or do you mean 20 psi when spraying paint. I noticed mine drops by about five psi down to 15 once paint enters the chamber. Thank you in advance! Kyle

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      happy to hear that. thanks! I mean 20psi when I'm spraying the paint. I always set my psi while pressing down on the airbrush trigger so that it is spraying air. So while it's not in use the psi will read higher (usualy+5 or so psi), but once you start spraying it'll read around 20. Hope this helps!

    I'd have to agree on this being the best overall airbrush ever. It's like in boxing where there's one person who is the best "pound for pound" boxer across all the weight classes. This is the airbrush equivalent of that. Taking everything into consideration, it just comes out to the best overall airbrush ever.
    When people ask me which airbrush to get for getting into the hobby I usually recommend a H&S Ultra for starters but tell them to upgrade to an Eclipse if they find themselves enjoying it. For about 90% of people, the eclipse is the last airbrush they'll ever need to buy.

      @@theartworkshop I'd be interested in what you have to say about the ultra compared to the infinity. Both use the exact same nozzle and needle, so it always felt odd to me that one is marketed as a high end airbrush and the other is so much cheaper when some of the most important parts are completely identical. It would be interesting to hear from you how much of a difference there really is. It just doesn't make any sense to me that they'd be so far apart in terms of pricing.

    You know what I think..... This is a great new look on this classic. As you know I have an Eclipse. I just bought a secondhand (2nd) HP-CS off ebay. It looked brand new at a big price reduction. I was guessing maybe it had been used once or twice and the guy/girl...etc. didn't know how to clean it or it had a bent needle or fooked nozzle.. Both were right. Needle is bent. Not sure about the nozzle until I get to my dads who has a microscope. And it was filled with dried paint. Long story short. Paint cleaned out, I rolled the needle on a flat surface and polished it. She works. Will find out tomorrow under the microscope if all is good. If not, It's a new needle and nozzle which is fine... Quick question if you don't mind Sir: Of course I have an old H&S Infinity. I bought a new 0.15 needle for it (The bend, It wasn't my fault) when I recieved it I realised it was Version 2 and my old one is version 1. Is it compatible with my version 1 nozzle? (Sorry for the wall of text and I hope you are doing well) I just can't get over all these great videos.

      I think you mean the .35 nozzle over the .5. Easy to tell- the eclipse airbrushes (hp-cs, hp-bs, & Hp-takumi) come with the .35. The bottom/bottle feed one (hp-bcs) is the only one that comes with a .5. You can see the difference easily because the larger .5 (from the hp-bcs) is a single piece nozzle, all in a single color. The .35 has that small nozzle on the front of it, like you see in this video. Hope this helps.
