Wow! Queen Zheng's powerful first serve (#1 at # of aces in 2024 WTA so far) and speed are showing her potential to be one of the best players again. Obviously, you can never underestimate the home court advantage. BTW, Fernandez has been playing well too. I am not sure if her previous two tough three-set matches have affected her physical strength. On the other hand, this is only the 2nd game of Zheng as one of the top seeded players.
I’m happy to see that Zheng’s serve has been getting better this year. That was one area of improvement that she worked on. Lots of work to still do but hoping she goes all the way. A WTA 1000 win would boost her confidence massively
@@Karlmarx-r9d that is why she's so promising. There are obvious gaps in her game now: 1st serve rate (nuclear weapon that either blows away her opponent or self-implodes), 2nd serve (players like Andreeva, Sabalenka, Muchova FEAST on it), return game (percentage of return games won is basically top 20 level, and not near the top 3 women, once this goes up, she should be able to handle players like Gauff, Pegula, and Michova much better), more shot selection (taking a bit from the Muchova and peak Ons type of players would help her with against players like Sabalenka, and Rybakina). And even with all that said, her powerful groundstrokes, unstoppable serve when it's on, ability to generate plays and hit at unreturnable angles, athleticism, and her mental prowess of problem solving her way from a set down has already taken her into the Top 10 and makes her dangerous for any of the top players to face.
Very important victory for the race to the finals in Riyadh, now she has a 107-point advantage over Navarro, a clear victory in the end but Qinwen always plays with too much tension, I understand her a little, it must not be easy especially in China for a superstar like she has become to always keep the tension at the right level, but in this way she risks throwing away good opportunities. Leyla is a very fearsome opponent for anyone, moreover it is never easy to face left-handed players and credit to her for the good match despite the last set lost to love, next challenge Zheng Paolini another match that promises to be exciting, who knows if just as Qinwen dispelled the 0 to 2 with Leyla now the opposite can happen with Paolini with the same disadvantage with Zheng
My question is japanese is short heighted yet outforming many countries in 100m sprint , soccer , tennis , volleyball etc etc .. which kind of drug do they use ??? Wada must investigate.. just like when olympic comes italians take drugs .. mercel jacobs performance improve from 9.99 to 9.80 sec lol
Is there extended footage of the 3rd set anywhere? Did Qinwen just convert breakpoints more efficiently, or was the bagel set an absolute steamrolling?
Congratulations Qinwen! Fernandez is a tough opponent. Before this match, Fernandez was 2-0 head to head against Qinwen. A great comeback for Qinwen, down by the 1st set. All the Best Wishes in the forthcoming matches.
Qinwen has lost twice to Fernandez. But she has improved very much now. Glad she managed to reverse her losses. But I am curious to know why she loses so many first sets to good players before turning around on the second and third sets. It happen so many times when she plays good players. She needs to figure out how to play her best from the first game. Hope her team will work more on her first set consistency.
I think Qinwen plays with a problem solver mentality, which is very good (arguably something players like Iga lack), but can be kind of passive because she uses the first set to figure out the other player and is more reserved with her own game.
That's apparently wrong. It always easy to blame the dad, but without her dad's coaching, she would not even be in top 300. players like her athleticism are everywhere.
Skill-wise, Fernandez is one of the best. Her weakness is power. For this reason, she is just an average professional player. However, her play is nice to watch.
Zheng won the last set completely one-sided, yet the highlight showed two winning points for each player. Could use more highlight of Zheng, I'm sure she played some great points in that set!
Fernandez is a wonderful player with incredible hand skills and speed. What she lacks at this level is the strength in the upper body. As a smaller player, she needs to take a page out of Jasmine Paolini‘s book. Jasmine’s power is her secret weapon for a player even shorter than Fernandez. Perhaps her lack of weight training is due to her dad being her coach?
Finally a commentator who pronounced Qinwen’s name correctly. Chin-wen not Kin-wen. Some Chinese words are hard for native English speakers to say but not Qinwen’s name, so about time!
@@songmingyuan7660the closest sound in English is Chin... I don't think English has the "q" sound of Mandarin! It would take serious training to be able to master that sound!
I’m sorry we don’t want Leylah to end up like Stefanos who only realized that he needs a different coach at 26 years old. Please don’t waste this potential…
@@robertmartin7594 Last week at the China Open, Beijing. Quarterfinals against Mirra Andreeva: 5-7, 6-0, 6-4. Notice, she also lost the first set there. You're welcome.
@@robertmartin7594 Going further back, at the Paris Olympics. First round against Sara Errani: 6-0 6-0 !!!!!!!!!! LOL! No, she's not Iga, because she beat Iga in the semi-finals before taking the gold medal. LOL!!!
After watching the match between Leyla Fernandez and Rakhimova in the second round my feeling was that if Leyla played at that level (lots of double faults and unforced errors) she would be destroyed by Qinwen in the third round. Well to my surprise, Leyla elevated her game during the first set and ended up winning it. Guess what happened in the second and third set...Leyla level came back to the level she played in the first and second round matches and she got beaten badly by Qinwen. It is always the same story, if Leyla fixes her current weaknesses, specially her serve (which is very inconsistent mostly because of her erratic ball toss) then she can get back to top 20 or even top 10. If not,she will be stuck in the mid 30's rankings.
Fernandez is about to cry 😂 I😂😂 I really like her. I mean, she is left handed which is very unique., but she needs better coach from now on to finally get on top
鄭欽文,我是台灣的球迷,我為妳加油!
After the first set, I thought that maybe Leylah had tamed te dragon. She only woke it up.
Lets go Zheng Qinwen!!!
It will be awesome if Qinwen plays Xinyu in the semi-finals.🙏
Agreed. Would of been better if it was the final though. Making their home proud! ❤

Zheng is crazy top form now. Amazing player...The asian conquest...
Asian conquest ??? She is not using her height well ... her height is same as Andre Agassi .
@@Karlmarx-r9d Indeed, she still needs a lot improvements: stability, first serve rate, un forced errors, warm up speed, etc.

Time for Fernandez to hire a actual coach instead of her dad. She has completely stagnanted despite having great potential.
