To clean my glass I use white vinegar on a cloth rag, then another pass with plain water and paper towel. The vinegar really gets the glass nice and clear, no residue.
You can always put the gloves on opposite hands so the rubber is on the other side if you ever grab the wrong ones. That tool looks like it did a pretty good job.
For that missing air tube perhaps you could purchase a length of the right diameter stainless steel, drill the same size holes in it and use that. Should be significantly cheaper
i have the same soot eater... i made a modification to the head that has increased its efficiency ... i clamped small aluminum cable ferrules on the ends of the plastic string trimmer brushes about 1.5 inches in from the ends. wile spinning the head the added weight/mass of the ferrules force the brush ends outward and do a much better job at cleaning...especially in nooks and cranny's in the flue pipe...
FINE BUSINESS!!! I have an ash bucket similar to yours except that it is called the Ash VACUUM . Designed to pick up hot ashes with the cold ones.Goes with my pellet stove which needs to be vacuumed often and cannot be cleaned with a shovel.Viewing from westcoast Canada! CHEERS FROM HERE!
We heat all winter with wood stove. Do you toss creosote remover (like the granules from Rutland) in there once in a while? Our chimney guy suggested it, and he no longer mentions creosote to me when he's cleaned the chimney. I started using the ash trick to clean the glass a few years ago. Why would anyone buy one of those special glass cleaners? No need! I found a French fry basket type thing on Amazon to sift the ash and save the coals when cleaning the wood stove. Waste not... LOL! Oops, neighbor's dead tree fell on my yard at 3am. Missed the baby Rhodo by that much but snapped a maple. I guess I know what I'll be doing today.
It looks like the width is 17.5” face to face but I think they recess inside the holes an additional 1/2” total. I could cut what you have if you want to send it! Email me at sslfamily5@gmail.com. Thanks!!
Wait ... at 12min08sec, did you totally close up damper with firebricks? Does that only work for fireplace inserts with door or will it work with open fireplace (no doors) as well? Thank you

I was thinking the same thing. It's probably just regular steel with high temp paint.
@fredmeyer1898 only 1 way to find out
Get vacuum bags for your shop vac. Preserves the vacuum filter and keeps the ash from leaking out of the container.
Very warm recently. The stoves definitely bridge the gaps this time of year. 👊
Ash is great added to compost. Glad you got some.
Looked like it was good you cleaned out the chimney before winter fires start being needed

Hopefully, we will get a good winter this year. It's been pretty mild the last few, and my boys are missing ice fishing and snowmobiling.
I’ve been buying my fire bricks for $2-3 at tractor supply. $15 is a massive number your spending per brick
Why not make DIY air pipes for woodstove? Doesn't look complicated thing.
I love these kind of videos so thank you 👍🏻
Where did you get that firestarter? You should put an affiliate link. I’d buy that.

I need to get an ash sifter!
I got 2 or 3 of those $200 retburn tubes or whatever they are laying around. If you measure the width I’ll send them to ya.
Went out to the shop it’s 21 1/2” long. I think they are stainless. Only seen one
