not sure I understand the relevance of most comments here, but the Pixies defined a whole new genre of music - before Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc (all great bands). I think of them as a superb blend of punk and folk with a rock underlayer, all stripped down, but not so basic to be uninteresting. Francis and Kim did a great job trading vocals and 'front' for the songs and I consider the Pixies to be as important as, say, the Clash or the Ramones to the music that followed.
wouldn't really consider Sonic Youth as grunge, their more noise and alternative. I love both bands, but the Pixies seemed a lot more grunge than Sonic Youth. Anyway, I think Sonic Youth just inspired a bunch of bands no matter what genre they were.
This video, when compared to all the other versions, shows how important it is to play it "right", which can be determined only by having nothing but the enjoyment of your audience in mind. With love.
Saw them in '92 between nights opening for U2. I am amazed Kim's still alive, the way she was chainsmoking through the whole set - I swear, singing this was the only timeout she took from cancer sticks.
She was particularly good on the base in this performance. She also had a lot more enthusiasm in her voice in this one, too. Enthusiasm is what makes a big big love.
Kim, i was lucky to hear this in the 1980s. I'm still lucky now. Often when my kids play stuff I stop them and shout "Hey, where is my mind?". They laugh.
Huh? I'm soo sick too that someone covered this on his/her channel. I might barf I'm soo sick. The Pixies really ushered in an era and I really didn't realize it at the time. Looking back, I should have thought that they were more brilliant than just fun.
I find it interesting because Frank Black said that they create the lyrics as an afterthought on most of their songs. idk about this one, but if these lyrics were made just to fit with the instrumental writing, thats awesome
@@robertotretola4133 Except for that time she went to rehab for heroin in 1994. That's why The Breeders never became more popular. She was battling her demons.
There are no Pixies without Kim Deal.
muh trompe le monde
Every time they tour I say "No Deal, no deal."
Shes got a twin
@@adams1585And ?
Exactly, no Pixies without Kim Deal. Somebody tell black Francis that, who was once quoted saying "I am the Pixies".

Dear Kim,
Thank you for encouraging me to observe good dental hygiene.
Kim deal the bassist of the pixies is pretty bad ass
Kim deserves so much more credit than she actually gets. The band is awesome either way but owes its uber coolness to that chick

LOL you read my mind ^.^
Kim Deal and Stevie Nicks- best female rock vocals, ever.
Well I like Lorie Anderson,Kate Bush, Nina Hagen & a few others who knock my socks off.

Sont très forts les publicitaires Apple. ça me ramène 25 ans en arrière. Surfer Rosa for ever.
