Soyeon is a beast. She's the 5th most credited idol in 4th gen as a producer/ song-writer/ composer with +60 songs. She's the first and only female (so far) who wrote an album by herself (I TRUST which u guys reacted to). She's been writing songs since she was in the middle school and she's shown her passion for rap since predebut through survival shows like PD101 and Unpretty Rapstar. The thing about her solo stage at the MMA, is that entire verse was completely freestyle. I think it was on a live where she mentioned it but she had forgotten what she intended to rap for it and just decided “eh. I’ll just freestyle something.”

Soyeon is a breath of fresh air within the 4th generation, considering that each time the groups are more superficial and no longer give importance to the quality of the music (with VERY few exceptions) Plus: the best rapper of her generation. Without exaggeration, she has no competition.

Her name is Lee Young Ji. She won in a show called High School Rapper 3. I’m not sure if she also writes her own stuff but I can say that she’s a really great rapper especially at her age (19yo). She can also sing and dance. You guys should check out ‘Is This Bad B**** Number?’ live on Dingo. It’s the one she did with Soyeon and BIBI. That one is just fire. In the show unpertty rap star no stages were freestyle all were pre written and prepared before the stage as they were told who they are going against, but while watching the show soyeon blow my mind she is so talented
There was a freestyle bit when they were introducing each other - but other than that, yes, they wrote their stuff beforehand. I believe they had a day (or at least an evening) to write the battle rap; some stages had as little as three hours to come up with their verses, so it was quite tough, but it was not freestyle.

I think Soyeon is easily the best female rapper in kpop (4th Gen) I can’t say overall bc there were actual underground female rappers in Kpop like LE from EXID that wrote and produced for her group and other groups (she also taught Hyuna how to rap) BUT I put Soyeon probably top 3 overall

I think in Unpretty Rapstar, if it isnt a battle stage, then it isn't freestyle. The rest of their performances, they have written their lyrics either an hour before, a few hours before, or the day before the performance. One of the former contestants of the show, who is now a youtuber, revealed and explained this in her video.

IIRC Soyeon didn't know anything about Cool Kid (the battle rap opponent) except the basics: she came from YG, she was dropped into UR3 mid-season after some people were already eliminated, and she came in cocky; she was researching and trying to think what to write for her battle rap the whole evening before. But after Soyeon's first round, Cool Kid fell apart on her first line, and after the first four beats stopped rapping. After a while, the music stopped. Soyeon was pissed - she wanted to win, but not by default. The second round went about the same way, Cool Kid never recovered. I'm sure she was a good rapper, but she could not manage the stress of the competition and Soyeon's intensity. "You need a really relaxed body to maintain the most easy breath flow possible" - man... you really need to check out I-DLE's My Bag live :D Some other female Kpop rappers known to always write their own stuff include Yuki of Purple Kiss (even though she's Japanese!), Moonbyul of Mamamoo, Yeeun of CLC, LE of EXID, and I think also Exy of WJSN and Mimi of Oh My Girl as well write all or most of their stuff. I still think Soyeon is on top, but she is not nearly the only female Kpop rapper who writes her rap.

I think in Unpretty Rapstar, if it isnt a battle stage, then it isn't freestyle. The rest of their performances, they have written their lyrics either an hour before, a few hours before, or the day before the performance. One of the former contestants of the show, who is now a youtuber, revealed and explained this in her video.

well, Jessie is also compete in UNPRETTY RAPSTAR, but in season 1. competing along with Cheetah, Jimin (AOA leader), ect. Jessie is one of the pioneer of UNPRETTY RAPSTAR. while Soyeon was competing on season 3.

IIRC Soyeon didn't know anything about Cool Kid (the battle rap opponent) except the basics: she came from YG, she was dropped into UR3 mid-season after some people were already eliminated, and she came in cocky; she was researching and trying to think what to write for her battle rap the whole evening before. But after Soyeon's first round, Cool Kid fell apart on her first line, and after the first four beats stopped rapping. After a while, the music stopped. Soyeon was pissed - she wanted to win, but not by default. The second round went about the same way, Cool Kid never recovered. I'm sure she was a good rapper, but she could not manage the stress of the competition and Soyeon's intensity.

Some other female Kpop rappers known to always write their own stuff include Yuki of Purple Kiss (even though she's Japanese!), Moonbyul of Mamamoo, Yeeun of CLC, LE of EXID, and I think also Exy of WJSN and Mimi of Oh My Girl as well write all or most of their stuff. I still think Soyeon is on top, but she is not nearly the only female Kpop rapper who writes her rap.
WJSN (Cosmic Girls)Exy - she writes her own rap and is one of kpop's best but underappreciated female rappers. She also produces songs for other kpop groups.

Soyeon was actually freestyling on that performance she had with gidle. She forget the lyrics so she had to make it up as she is goes.
So the first clip is from Unpretty Rapstars. It's not actually freestyle ,they write the lyrics before their rap battle rounds. The opponent she was demolishing mentioned she forgot her lyrics! You can see soeyon kind of encouraging her to rap when it was her turn in the full unedited clip.
Jessi and Cheetah also participated in the previous seasons of the show !
