Omniscience draft with 7-card opening hands was certainly a choice... I love the shenanigans omnidraft enable, but it was basically impossible to lose if you knew how to draft and got to go first.
Imagine a dumb ass like me who didn't read the "you can cast spells without paying the mana cost" thing. One of the funniest midweek events burned with a perfectly studied - and useless - mana curve 😂 I have cursed against all the gods of the Pantheon 😅
@@havenschade8174 I find it less offensive than classic rule of law because I generally dont play many creatures that I care about blocking with and I find creatures easier to remove than enchants. that said, the creatures etb'ing tapped is a BIG upside over rule of law so I understand the hatred for the card
I love getting gems for rewards honestly since most of the time I own the cards needed for standard and getting a different card means it's either out of standard or something I probably don't need so the gems are a blessing tbh... Hell I wish they gave 75 instead really
I'm pretty sure Arena has a popup for Phil's opponents at this point: "Warning! You are playing Brewer's Kitchen. A massive combo is about to kill you. Concede now?"
It was the opposite for me. Almost no one knew how the event worked, so I just drew my whole deck and won with First Day of Class every game, play or draw.
This mode was interesting... But also easy to break with the right cards. Someone I played against pulled a two drop Lavinia, essentially giving them a one card win-con in this format.
When Phil said "no bonus game", I had to check to see how much time was left on the video, because it wouldn't be the first time he said "no bonus game" (or implied it) and then suddenly: BONUS GAME!! ... maybe he should hide a bonus game on the website like what Card Market sometimes does... :D
I played this too! I opened Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, so as long as my opponent didn't have haste (or I had the counterspell), they could almost never win. Half of the games were vs. people who didn't seem to understand the assignment, though. Lots of medium creatures and no card draw.
What about draw spells that had X in the cost? Could you specify how many cards to draw say with Braingeyser for example for free since every spell was 0??
@@davidcrawford5324 Kind of! When you cast a spell for free, X is always zero. But, the Omniscience emblem in the event also lets you add WUBRG once per turn, so if your draw spell cost {X}{U}, you could cast it with the bonus mana for up to X=4.
Fun fact, this draft had an infinite combo with Psychic Pickpocket and Saheeli; Saheeli copies pickpocket, pickpocket bounces Saheeli, repeat until you have as many hasty pickpockets as you need to win. Pickpocket also loots when it ETB's, and it can bounce itself back to hand, so once you have it, you can loot through your deck until you find Saheeli. Omnidraft was broken af.
Because (what feels like) the majority of arena players don’t like their opponent playing the game, and any interaction at all is met with a scoop, because the opponent destroying their 1/1 is a clear sign that they hate other people having fun and they want to waste everyone’s time
Really hated this event, when i started drafting i went ahead with this exact plan in mind, pick card draw, some counters, big creatures, go to town, but i didnt get a single card draw spell, just looting and tax counters wich aren't great here, i even thought that was on porpouse and pretty smart to make the draft more interesting, but nop, everyone i played against just a big ol pile of draw and beaters, while my deck couldnt draw, i felt sooooo cheated, i only got the wins when my opponents insta scoop for disconects or something like that.
This was exactly how I drafted for this event. All the draw 2+ cards, 1 haste enabler, and enough creatures to get a kill turn 1 every time, as well as a couple counter-spells to stop my opponent from countering my haste enabler. I threw in a multi-loop-able discard combo and was able to empty my opponent's hand each time I went first as well. I had a lot of fun with this event! My opponents however, did not.
I didn't know about the 5 mana that you can get per turn. My "counter target spell unless opponent pays 4" didn't have much use (and of course I never drew it when playing against equipment decks)
I had a blast with this event, my deck won almost every time I went first and about half of the time I went second. Not sure how many times I actually did lethal damage though… normally when I would pass my opponent would have 0 or 1 cards hand and I would have like 40 power in play and 4-5 cards left in my deck.
Same, saw no big card advantage cards or many bombs. I had to take a bunch of removal to try to keep up. It sometimes worked. It was weird to me that my omniscience draft was filled with a bunch of 1-3 mana dorks, ramp and other useless stuff. Why even put those cards in? Just to test if people are ignorant enough to take them?
This reminds me of Type 4. It was a style of Draft/Sealed, it was 40 cards minimum, no need for lands, you had infinite mana of all colors at all times, but could only cast ONE SPELL per turn
I had a nicely broken deck with Bitter Reunion and Jin-Gitaxis (which was usually enough to ensure I drew my deck, along with the ~8 other draw spells i had). I had enough instants (including Eyes of the Beholder, Broken Wings, and a couple hard counters) that the games actually had a little interactivity to them. The most interesting game was one where the opponent played a God-Pharoah's Statue. Being limited to only 2 or three spells a turn was an interesting challenge (I lost, but it took many turns and was a close game). Overall, not the most balanced gameplay, but it was a fun departure from the norm!
That was one of the few fun events. Had Griselbrand in a pack. One time in opening hand, onother game drawn him in round 2 or 3. Paid 7, drawn seven, given him haste with Act of Treason and quadrupled his power.... Nothing I would play in constructed, but in that event it was nice.
Man you had an insane pool! I barely saw any card draw spells or even bomby creatures. Still easily went 4-0 thanks to drafting like 5 counterspells, some discard and a First Day of Class.
I do wish the Individual Card Rewards would just switch to one you haven't gotten yet from standard. If there are none left, then I deserve the gems (or a mythic haha)
I love Omniscience drafts. I think it should be available all the time! I went 20-0 until there was 15 minutes left in the event and someone got me with Charbelcher. My deck was brutal.

Turn 1 win. 100% scoops. This is defs yugioh
