I inadvertently created a berm bed today from part of my front lawn and didn't realize that's what I was doing - did the same as you, ie used the edged lawn and turned upside down. Glad I did now, your video explained the benefits of doing it!
Thank you, Jay! I am a new subscriber from North Carolina. And a brand new gardener. I started my mulch bed a few weeks ago. I’m quite a bit older than you are, so it’s slow going…. I love your 2 videos on mulch gardens that I’ve watched so far…. I love your approach…. Every bit of it…. I think I’ll be watching each of them multiple times… so many good ideas…. Thanks so much for sharing with us! Keep up the good work!
Thank you Jay! Like you, eventually I want to convert more of my lawn to gardens beds. This video is very inspiring and appreciate you sharing your gardening expertise.
New subscriber. So glad to have found another Carolina gardener! Love the berm idea and what a great way to conserve water. Plants yes! Turf NO! Blessings…daisy
I am planning to sheet mulch my front lawn which isn't too large and I like what you say at the end of this video about extending the bed all the time. I think this would be a great way for me to start small. I never thought about doing it that way. It is a bit of a prohect to do the entire yard all at once, but a nice berm farden is totally doable. Thanks for the ideas! Love your channel and your gardens! ❤
THANK YOU! So much for showing in detail bc I’ve been gardening for over 20 Yrs and it’s such a journey. A beautiful one but always more to learn and I too want less grass and more native gardens in my front yard as my back is well established. You’re gardens are incredibly beautiful!!! ❤🌼🐝🦋
Great job & looks good being raised up. My county here in GA moved the recycling bins a few years ago to who knows where so I can’t use newspapers anymore, which I prefer because you can layer it/size it easier around plants. Anyway, now I use cardboard because I can find it readily available at Dollar General stores.
Lord have mercy that Bermuda grass/wire grass is plague from the devil!!!!!! it grows to center of the earth it seems like LoL 😂 i have seen my Mama and my late grandma chop and dig till they couldn't hardly move then by the next or two there would a sprig that didn't get got.....never ending battle....but you did a great job 💪👑🏆💐..... your yard and garden looks like a magazine 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hi. May I ask you what was that giant yellow bag of soil, or compost? And where does one get a big yellow bag of good stuff like that? Thank you. & thank you for sharing your gardening journey with all of us who watch! 😊
I'm really enjoying your videos; thank you! I'm dealing with a yard filled with horrible grasses and weeds, many of which spread by rhizomes. Do you find that removing the sod and turning it upside down stops the rhizomes from spreading? I'd like to try it but I'm afraid that I'll end up with grass and weeds running rampant throughout my newly dug garden beds.
Nice work! My mantra is: cardboard, mulch, soil and seed. I like getting cardboard from Aldi & pizza shops, as they don’t have tape
Nice! Happy gardening! 🌱
Great tip!! I’m always wondering where to get cardboard from I’ll try Aldi
Gradens, Yes. Turf, no. I am shrinking my backyard one blade of grass at a time. Thank you for your channel
You can do it! Less grass, more garden!!

Wowwww! I wish I’d seen this sooner! I’ve sent so many piles of berm materials to the pick up pile! 🤣

Indeed! My 81 year old father still reads the newspaper every day. 😊
