Very helpful video. Same mechanism on a Skoda Yeti. I couldn't get the leverage with a screwdriver or knife, I managed to unlatch it using a piece of rope passed through the latch and both ends of the rope pulled towards the side of the car. Quick clean up and then spray with white grease.
Hey wideline24 thanks for watching my video and for contributing that great information. It is great when people update with other cars this worked for, great to hear. Your string and white grease idea is also awesome that is definitely super creative and important, thanks for sharing that tip.
Thanks very much for this clear video. It's amazing how many other videos didn't show the actual mechanism. It was easy to fix one I could see what the mechanism was.
Big help. I was Valvoline Instant Oil Change, hood stuck. Three guys couldn’t figure this out. I TH-cam ur video and guess what, just a screwdriver i needed. Thanks. Much appreciated

Huge thanks for posting this. I thought I was going to have to crawl under the car and somehow reach up through the engine with a spanner/wrench - very glad that this wasn't necessary. Had the bonnet/hood open in under a minute, and hook now lubricated and working like a dream!
Hey David McKenzie thanks for watching my video and for taking the time to leave a comment, greatly appreciated. Glad I could save you some time with opening your VW hood, enjoy the car!
My husband tried this on my car, but it was really hard to get enough leverage with a spoon or fork, so I suggested using one of the old wire coat hangers, so the hook obviously held around the part needing moving.... It worked a treat.. First time😊
Hey kathy veal thanks for watching my video and for the awesome tip! I am sure plenty of people will prefer your method of the coat hanger and it sounds easier, thanks again for sharing. Glad I could help, enjoy the car.
The problem for me is that the hood wouldn't even budge, wouldn't pop. I did figure that I can stick something under and through, so this video did help me figure that out. Thanks!
Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to leave a comment. With regard to popping of the hood Google search, VW Tiguan hood release cable fix. Please share an update on your diagnostics, thanks a bunch.
@@WheelsTips Thanks again! I managed to get it open and I sprayed it down with some WD-40 and I am good to go! Since I was working on it, I also decided to tighten the cable, so I did that as well. It works great and the hood pops like a million buck! Thank you again, my friend!
