    Best of luck with the degree. I'm definitely going to subscribe to see how you get on! I've finished stage 1 of the BSc Physics, moving on to S217 in October. You will love MST124! It was one of my favourites.

      Thank you and good luck with your degree too. Im excited but nervous for MST124 as maths has never been my strong point however they’ve already released the first two units which I believe are revisory so we can start looking through them over the summer. I’m halfway through the algebra revision unit and fingers crossed so far am understanding and enjoying it

      I’m excited and nervous. I’m halfway through unit 2 for MST124 and the workload is intense (probably as I’m doing all the activities as I need the practice 😂). It’s a challenge so far but I’m actually enjoying it so long may it continue

    I just registered for M06 and about to choose my first modules. I had the exact same dilemma as you. The Physics and the Planetary Science degrees didn't have everything I wanted to study. Specifically I really wanted to be able to take all of SM358, SM359, S382, and S383. I do have some transfer credit from my last university which should cover essential maths 1 and SM123. Im pretty excited to get this started!!!

      Awesome to hear you’ll be on M06. I’d love to be able to delve straight into S283 and S284 but alas coming from a law degree I think I may need the additional background knowledge from SM123 plus also the maths refresher from MST124 😆.

    I'm also starting this in October, and I also did a law degree which wasn't for me at Uni of Birmingham. Look forward to starting!

    Hi, I am Italian and I am very interested in enrolling in the mathematics degree course at the Open University. I wanted to ask you if within the modules to be studied there are also recorded videolessons of the topics and if the exams are written or oral (face to face). Thanks for any replies.

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I haven’t taken any maths modules yet (start my first one this year) but from my experience doing law with the Open University, the material is mainly written on the module website, but can contain links to videos and audio content but not sure how relevant that will be for maths. There is a chance to attend online tutorials with your tutor where they usually go through what you’ve recently studied and it’s an opportunity to ask questions and communicate with your tutor group. With law the tutorials mainly took the form of a slide show presentation with the tutor explaining the topics as we went along and answering questions along the way. But there is no video lessons as far as I’m aware ( would be good if they updated their tutorials so that it used zoom or Teams but they’re just audio at present).

      Thanks a lot for the answer. I think that videolessons (even recorded would be fine) are very important for exam preparation, an open university should provide this type of teaching material, it is also true that on TH-cam and other channels there are many videos regarding the subjects included in the degree in mathematics which can be very helpful. Thanks again and I wish you the best of luck in your new university studies.

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@starman633 I agree video lessons or tutorials would be great but so far the Open University uses an outdated platform for tutorials which only allows live audio and PowerPoint slides. However I agree there are plenty of videos on TH-cam especially for maths which I’ve found useful. Best of luck also for your future studies 😊

    Btw they have changed level 3 if you look at it you can do exactly the same modules in physics than in Astro the only difference is the 4 year so unless you are set on doing space science to know how to make rockets and stuff you might want to do the physics route taking the Astro modules in 3 and then the physics modules in 4. I think I’ll do that

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having a quick look, topics in advance physics sounds like it could be good, however I’m not sure about the advanced calculus or differential equations modules 😂 will see how the next few years go and make a decision nearer the time

    • @freya7084
      @freya7084 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanUniAndBooks wait until you do mst124. you might fall in love with calculus as I did. its an extremely beautiful subject although it can be tricky. if you struggle let me know :)

    I'm seeing if I can try switch from the integrated masters of Engineering onto the integrated masers of Physics. Has more modules I'm interested in and 1 less year to complete.

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fingers crossed you’re able to. I know it’s pretty straight forward if the modules completed are the same, not sure how it works when the modules are different but I’m sure you’d still be able to change qualification some how.

      @@DanUniAndBooks Even if I have to take Physics and space or Essential Mathematics 2 to make up some credits I think that is still a better option. (For me anyway.) But the engineering degree has a lot of maths and physics just uses it in a different way

    Hi !
    In necessary have a bachelors in physics previously to the MS in physics?

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not with the Master of Physics as it is an undergraduate degree that combines both undergraduate and postgraduate study in one degree, which is why it takes either 4 years full time or 8 years part time to complete. It is different to a Master of Science which is a postgraduate degree and tends to require an undergraduate degree as a prerequisite to study

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really, but then again I’m nearly 37 so I’m not quite sure I’d fit in at a brick uni anyway 😆 but I can see how people may feel like they’re missing out, I went for a year back in 2005 and there is a whole social side that you do miss out on, especially if you’re younger. However, I definitely took more in and put more effort in with the OU as I treated brick uni as one big party, hence why I failed the first year and dropped out

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not 100% on the answer as this is an integrated undergraduate degree (even though the end result is a masters), but having a quick look on their website for a maths MSc it states that you either need a 2:2 in a maths degree or a 2:1 in a degree that has a high content of maths. I’m not an expert on engineering but I would assume that has a high content of maths in it so should be ok.
