I am going to switch from a level 2 (Tier 2) mig 21 balalaika to f-18 hornet level 5 (tier 5) jet this week. So yes you can do that. But i would suggest u not to. If you still wish to then be prepared to max out ur jet upgrades and slap a paint job that increases capabilities. Cheers.
Apparently the developers unlock the planes periodically for a short period of time allowing the opportunity for lower level pilots to purchase. Watch this video from beginning to end, it will show you what I’m talking about. I actually noticed this almost a year ago before I got my Gripen. People on social media just love to have something to complain about. I don’t mind playing against higher tier plane, it just makes me a better pilot!
They unlock them from time to time. If you have enough diamonds you can purchase but you have to catch it fast. If you notice in this video I had the opportunity to buy an F22 before my game, I checked after the game ended and they locked again.

The foxhound is not a good jet for close combat. Which is what you will be doing 99% of the time while playing the game. Get the F14 for that matter
