The WORST thing about MKX is all the NPC’s you fight in the story. I thought that they were gonna bring in Rain, Baraka & Sindel but I was disappointed.
Rain was the strangest one to leave out, they gave him a whole new character design and hired a full voice actor and still he's just a two fight cameo.

I believe that Mortal Kombat Trilogy has never been re-released is due to the fact that the game was made exclusively for consoles and by a third-party studio, so it would be difficult for them to re-release the game without emulating the PS1/N64 version (the source code must have probably been lost, as happened with most games of the time), and it would not be cool to release a game on the Xbox or Switch with the PlayStation controller symbols (or even legal). We also have to take into account that Trilogy is a big Frankenstein made in a hurry to be released while UMK3 was still relevant (MK4 was released less than 1 year after Trilogy), so the game is full of bugs, optimization problems, Aggressor mode being very busted, low-quality sound and graphics, long loading times (the game would load with each Shang Tsung transformation), balancing problems, etc. Even the FGC prefers to play UMK3 in tournaments than MKT (even the Genesis version).

Fun fact, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was THE game that traumatized me for decades, causing me a permanent psychological scar, when I was 9, about 21 years ago, I've lost by a Fatality from Sub-Zero who remove the entire skeleton, it traumatized me so hard that I got nightmares for weeks, and I haven't play a Mortal Kombat game ever since. I retried when I turned 17, I lost by a Fatality from Kung Lao, it was fine, but it makes me realized that this franchise wasn't for me, and the trauma didn't help either. I can watch people playing the game and watch the fatality from the recent games, but I'll no longer play that franchise ever again. Thanks for understanding guys.
You didn't talk about the boss fight that much.i like fighting games that has good boss fights.Good video but, It would have been nice if you talk about final boss fight for each game and then let us know if they was worthy.
I think Killer Instinct plays more like Street Fighter due to the six button layout similar to the Street Fighter control panels, and cartoony fatalities that's more akin to Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry... Also, Killer Instinct is rated T for Teen... Oh, and the Classic Sub-Zero in UMK3 is actually the older brother in MK1. And you forgot that Cyber Smoke is a hidden character in the vanilla MK3.
I would say MK1's biggest flaw is the Kameo system, despite the fact that I personally love it. It seems like it has been the most detrimental for the game's casual audience, though for a MK enthusiast it works great.
OG player here. I have a couple thoughts: MK - introduced secret character by meeting certain requirements, introduced fatalities, and introduced concept of a “juggle.” As for the fighting, back in the day, it was seriously fun if you were playing at top levels. I haven’t really seen anyone on TH-cam demonstrate high-level original MK play. For starters, we almost never jumped. Some characters (Johnny Cage being the best) would uppercut you every time-guaranteed anti-air. And in MKII, Johnny was not improved. He was my main in MK, and I felt like he was seriously nerfed in MKII. I switched to Shang Tsung. He was OP if you knew how to play every character. And it was easy for us to beat the AI tbh. I could go on about other titles, but this is long enough lol
31:22 Many forget that sub zero was a machine, and Shao Kahn gave Sindel all of Shang Tsungs power and strength, so those hits most likely made Sub Zero malfunction
Honestly best thing about MK4 is the hilariously bad endings. Jax's ending with Jarek. 😂 All joking aside. I love its very dark tone. The pit game over haunts me to this day. Worst thing about MK4 is the 3D graphics haven't aged well. MK2 and 3 look better with its digitized look. That's my opinion.
Trilogy actually had a recent rerelease! While not a new port from ground zero, they released the Windows PC version from back in the day on GoG and it just works out of the box with no need to tweak much besides real advanced configs
This was a surprising and Great List! "My favorite thing about this game... ( Korrection it's everything )" That cracked me up 🤣 but to be fair that's my favorite thing too. The thing I dislike about MK9 above all else is just how unprepared the game was for tournaments. Things like needing to play the ENTIRE STORY just to unlock Quan chi if he was ur main. Very tedious to do b4 a tournament and player 1 advantage. But all that has been worked out since and is good now at least. MK trilogy was my 1st MK game and it is still my Favorite! But MAN PLEASE GIMME THIS GAME ON MODERN KONSOLES ALREADY! AND MK9! AND ALL THE 3D ERA GAMES DAMN IT!
I beg to differ about MK vs DC. The Kombo challenge was the one thing i enjoyed about the game. Learning the combos and using them in actual matches was the closest i got to knowing how to pay mortal komnat (skill issue. I know)
30:54 Yeah, it's kinda understandable since she is almost always the last resort for the outworld villains to win; but i wish they could've showcased her more of her low-level-telekinetic powers, hair, and screaming abilities rather than hand-to-hand combat.
Have you tried invasions now, is it always the fights are all almost optional now? Invasions takes an hour or a bit more now unless you get stuck looking for the key item
11:15 this can be applied to literally every MK game but its especially egregious for mk1-9 since they can't be played on most modern systems (barring mk9 on Xbox but you can't buy it digitally any more)
Like how you put the goods and the bads of each game (sans Special Forces which is 99.99% negative things and the 0.01% was just that it tried... but failed big time, and that says a lot when Mythologies Sub-Zero wasn't that great either in the long run... but at least said game you can see there was a big effort put into it and had stuff that actually worked... meaning that if you don't play it, you can enjoy watching others struggle like how it happened with Maximilian_Dood years ago for example). Edit: Yeah... is hard to say bad things with Shaolin Monks aside of having the same issues of Donkey Kong Country in the story mode for the save files, as if you make a save with a friend, you might regret it if you want to play solo (at least with DKC on SNES you could play without much problems as long as you have 2 controllers... but still) and some bland areas, but yeah, Shaolin Monks pulled out a reverse Special Forces (99.99% goods and 0.01% bads).
I will always have a soft spot for MK VS DC, not only was it the first Mortal Kombat game I ever played, but also the first fighting game I ever played. Granted I haven't played the game in 10 years so I don't know how it holds up. Btw which version of Trilogy do you prefer, the PS1 or N64 version?
Man I would love to talk about Mortal Kombat with you. I've been playing mortal kombat since 93. I appreacte your opinion but I certainly don't agree with it.
11:14 I don't know how official this is, but MK Trilogy got essentially shadow-dropped on GOG in 2022 and is still available. It's based on the original PC port of the game in '97, which is itself based on the ps1 version, as far as I know. It's much more stable than it used to be, but it still has its issues, and the visual and audio quality are the same as they were back then. Since MK Trilogy was mainly made for consoles, sprite quality is lower, and the game's framerate is different than the 54 frames that arcade MK3 has, which changes things a little for frame data.
Honestly this is my hot take on the new characters added in MK Gold. I hate they got real lazy with them by recycling their MK2 voices and re-using everyone eles fatalities and worse, was the glitches and horrible balance they added to the game. Honestly MK4 is better than Gold. There were none of those awful glitches, horrible balance, and sound issues.
I only picked up MK1 about 2 weeks ago as my introduction to the series and I must say that I enjoy invasions. For beginners I think they're a good way to learn mechanics. What I don't like is grinding mastery with characters. It is. The worst
Mostly agreed. I have to make three major exceptions, though, as far as least favorites: Shaolin Monks: Continuity goofs. Characters who weren't supposed to die, died, and the one character who WAS supposed to die (Mileena) did not. For this reason myself and most other fans considered Shaolin Monks to the a fun little non-canon side adventure, but fortunately now with the introduction of the hourglass and alternate universes, Shaolin Monks can be considered a distant timeline, before even the "original" timeline, and therefore canonical. Armageddon: the generic Fatalities. Fatalities are a huge part of this franchise's identity, and their uniqueness to each character further solidifies that. They really dropped the ball as far as I'm considered, and it prevents me from deeming Armageddon a good entry worthy of the Mortal Kombat name. MK11: Continuity goofs. There are plenty throughout the story. Firstly, there is NO aesthetic continuity: characters brought forward from the MK2 portion of MK9 wearing outfits and sporting hairstyles and other such things that were in no way similar to what they wore then was more than a little jarring (though to be fair, MKX committed this transgression first in its flashback to the MK2 portion of MK9, showing Raiden, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao wearing outfits not bearing any resemblance to what they wore in that game). And now Kitana was Asian all of a sudden when she never had been before. But the aesthetic continuity goofs were not as egregious as the story continuity goofs, as plenty a TH-camr has pointed out. Also, I really dislike what the franchise has become in regard to the guest characters. Yes, Kratos and Freddy Krueger were fun in MK9, but it didn't take them long at all to really go off the deep end, to the point where guest characters dominate the game. I liked the franchise when it stood on its own, not relying on guest characters from outside the franchise; and unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's any end to that in sight now.
Whoa! The VAing maybe bad in GOLD, but not all cutscenes; Kung Lao's still my favorite, Raiden and Fujin are second. Kuai may be 3rd. But most are bleck! Perhaps it was the rough AI and uninspiration that made me drop out. Actually, MKV mostly suffered from the limited roster; I think it's worse than 3. Even some were uninspiring ie Li Mei and Drahmin. Shujinko's the worst thing on MKD, especially being the culprit of Onaga's resurrection and making awful naive decisions... Story mode expansion should've been with SM, but...some characters were subpar especially Liu and Raiden... Tie with kombat and roster for MKA, and kreate a fighter. Everything else suffered as a rushjob. I think story's the WORST in MK vs DC, too favorable to the DC side and took notes from Annihilation and lacked research on the MK side... MK9 is one of the worst ever in terms of plot!! Nothing but Raiden making pisspoor decisions due to Kronika's machinations!! Yea I heard gameplay's X's greatest strength and DLC, but plot and cutting Kombatansts out... *tongue in cheek* Not as good as Kreate a Fighter though in MK11, and the plot was so-so and it got the MK spirit back with I hoped Liutana starting a New Era... Till Aftermath screwed up everything... MK1...everything sucks. Positives, it gave Syzoth, Baraka, Geras, some of Liu, some of Kenshi justice. I hope Khaos Reigns undoes everything and be run by Geras. Hopefully it'd be sold out and never have Spoony Boony and Dom the Dom'er back. Also...you forgot the tourney editions of the 3D games and Onslaught.
My slight defense of Special Forces: it did two good things. 1. Tremor. Tremor rocks. Pun intended. 2. It was a cool concept. There is a bit of multi realm wackiness, which is essential for MK, but this is not another world ending thing. This is a street level threat. I wish MK would revisit this concept. But in execution, this game is nigh on unplayably bad.
The silly Fatalities in MK3 and Ultimate are why it's my least favorite of the original trilogy. I dunno if it was a push back about congressional hearings or what, but it killed the atmosphere of the game when you have Liu Kang dropping arcade machines on people, Jax turning into a giant, etc. Plus the Animalaties were all just crappy animal clip art.
10000% agree about trilogy, shit is so underrated. also, the mkx comics weren’t canon, so they were not really that important to understanding the story.
TBH, MK1's roster contains quite a few Glup Shittos I can take or leave - I don't care about the 3D era and no one can make me, so I prefer MK9's roster. It does have all the palette swap ninjas in it (except Jade), so I'll give it that. I just wish they'd come up with some new characters for this supposed new era, or thrown in more variety in terms of body type and costume design. (This is the drawback of including all the fan favorite palette swaps).
I had fun with MK Special Forces, and I will defend it till the day I die.
(not actually, I don't really care that much)

The story brings Li Mei Sareena and Fujin but they barely have 10 seconds of screen time
Wish mk11 story was longer/ more detailed to include more characters and actually explain why some of them are there

You didn't talk about the boss fight that much.i like fighting games that has good boss fights.Good video but, It would have been nice if you talk about final boss fight for each game and then let us know if they was worthy.
Special Forces did one thing right, Tremor
Correction: MK Trilogy was released on GOG a few years back for MK 30th anniversary
Thanks for the correction there, I appreciate it.
I think it’s worth noting that MK Trilogy is on GOG, but I can’t think of any other ports/rereleases. Good video, I’ve enjoyed it a lot
Thanks for sharing that with me, had no idea it’s on GOG. Also, thanks for the support!
@@the_NNPW
Of course! I think MK4 is on there too, but it’s been a while since I’ve checked.

Many forget that sub zero was a machine, and Shao Kahn gave Sindel all of Shang Tsungs power and strength, so those hits most likely made Sub Zero malfunction
For earlier MK games, you only have a few seconds to input the finisher command.
Trilogy actually had a recent rerelease! While not a new port from ground zero, they released the Windows PC version from back in the day on GoG and it just works out of the box with no need to tweak much besides real advanced configs
Every time a video made by Nick pushed forward by the mighty algorithm is a great sign
i feel like im the only one that adores MK deception scorpions default costume. always preferred it over the alternate classic-esque costume
14:02 where’d you get that cool mk1 Sub Zero figure
Cool?
I had a Sega when I was young and loved the original MK3 and was my first one I owned, played as cyrax sub zero and syndel
I remember Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks games too! My older brother he played Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks ❤🎉😊
I beg to differ about MK vs DC. The Kombo challenge was the one thing i enjoyed about the game. Learning the combos and using them in actual matches was the closest i got to knowing how to pay mortal komnat (skill issue. I know)
I remember Mortal Kombat Armageddon games my cousin and my brother they played Mortal Kombat Armageddon games too! ❤🎉😊
Great video! Even tho showing some fatalities footage when you talked about them would have been nice...
I wish monks would get a update that game was awesome me and a buddy worked our ass off to unlock scorpion and subzero
11:15 this can be applied to literally every MK game but its especially egregious for mk1-9 since they can't be played on most modern systems (barring mk9 on Xbox but you can't buy it digitally any more)
For 11:15 MK trilogy DID get a port/rerelease
but ONLY on GOG for PC.
They didn't it for MK's 30 anniversary,
but didn't market it for some reason
I’d love to discuss more with you too! If you’re down to DM me on Twitter, I’d love to talk more!
The best part of Special Forces is the intro theme.
Also, yes. Agree with you 100% on Mythologies. Great idea. Poor execution….
1. Bro, these lists are 🔥 2. MK: Special Forces still gets no love 😭
Thanks PhillyMan! Yeah, Special Forces has a lot going against it.
I remember Mortal Kombat 9 too! I played Mortal Kombat 9 games my brother played Mortal Kombat 9 games too! ❤🎉😊
I have to make three major exceptions, though, as far as least favorites:
Shaolin Monks: Continuity goofs.
I'm 95% with you on everything. The only difference I actually liked MKSF. It gave me something to do at the time.
*tongue in cheek*
Not as good as Kreate a Fighter though in MK11, and the plot was so-so and it got the MK spirit back with I hoped Liutana starting a New Era...
I played Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Deception games too! ❤🎉😊
Worst thing about MK1… the intro character banter. It just seems unfinished.
The clash in the banter just look bad. Imagine trying to do the forearm strike against Baraka or Jax. Sounds like a bad idea to me
Best things for me for MK Armageddon was Motor Kombat and Konquest. Worst was Kreate a Fatality
I remember Mortal Kombat X games me and my brother they played Mortal Kombat X games too! ❤🎉😊
very niiiiice, l would love to see that every street fighter & tekken games for best & worst thing video, or maybe KOF games too.
The best thing about Mortal Kombat Special Forces is that you can switch it off any time you want.
YOU'RE the best thing about Mortal Kombat
NickNack is a handsome fella!
Why thank ya!
But in execution, this game is nigh on unplayably bad.
actually MK Trilogy was re-released on GOG in 2022, and it's a really good port
I will say the only positive special forces has is it introduced tremor and that’s it
The silly Fatalities in MK3 and Ultimate are why it's my least favorite of the original trilogy.
