It's hard to believe they are all gone now. as in the last year we just lost Bill Shaw and Jackie Marshall. They are reunited in Heaven.

Terrific voices, especially at their ages. At the time of this performance their ages were
    ...
    Bill Shaw, 66
    James Blackwood, 71
    Cecil Blackwood, 56
    JD Sumner, 66

J.D is so inspirational. I love his voice and the personality he had. May all the Blackwood Brothers rest in peace. Too bad I never got to see them in person, they died before I was old enough to know who they were. : ( But their memory lives on through me and I'll make sure to allow them to live on through me.

"He that tooteth his own horn, the same shall not be tooted unto him."--JD Summer's theory according to James Blackwood. LOL!

I miss him so. Went to hundreds of their concerts in Tampa and the surrounding Florida cities. JD Sumner was my idle at that time as I was bass in my qt. The Echo-Aires and he was definitely one to look up to!

Totally Marvelous. This concert brought back so many precious memories of going to the All night singings and being blessed as a teenager by the great Blackwood Brothers Quartet. Thanks for posting.

I just discovered that Jack died on August 27, 2018. He lived across the street from me in Memphis in the 50's/60's and the Blackwood Brothers' tour bus would occasionally pull up for a visit and probably rehearsal at his home. Good memories! www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/tuscaloosa-al/jack-marshall-7974238

+Larry DeWein I cannot agree with you more! I also started listening to them round about 1959, on their LP record "The Old Country Church", and still enjoy them. And of course, the late JD Sumner was a remarkable "phenomenon" - his voice was remarkable, and so his sense of humour.

    • @fpoasec

+Larry DeWein Agreed. This was the best lineup.

+Larry DeWein ne of the greatest for sure. I also like the Chuck Wagon Gang, The Gaither Crew, and Statesmen, and , uh, yes, many more just turn me inside out and lift up and recharge my spirit and all I can do is , well, just praise God for His great creation, and making man in His image? Just thought how God would sound? I wonder how much the angels in heaven enjoy and how the Lord appreciates all the JOYFUL NOISE and beautiful!

Charlie Rogers Music that was J. D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet that sang backup with Elvis. The Blackwood Brothers never changed their name, or sang backup for Elvis.

Is that JD's secret to hitting those extremely low notes- putting his hand to his ear?

    • @conrar1320
      @conrar1320 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It doesn't make him lower, but it helps him hear himself better to make sure he's on pitch

I had to look it up cause I knew it wouldn't mean what we would think today. It was a contemptuous term referring to a rural white southerner..
