I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my inherited portfolio of about $2.5m. I’m used to just buying and holding assets which doesn’t seem applicable to the current rollercoaster market plus inflation is catching up with my portfolio. I’m really worried about survival after retirement.

      @Grace.milburn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

True, I mostly just buy and hold stocks, but my portfolio has been mostly in the red for quite awhile now. Unfortunately to be able to make good gains, you’ll need to be consistent and restructure your portfolio frequently.

That’s why I make it a point to speak with a financial advisor before choosing any investments. I’ve been using one since the pandemic, using profits oriented tactics and minimizing risks as a buffer against inevitable downtrends. In addition they have access to insider knowledge and analysis, making failure virtually impossible for them. I’ve made about millions working with my advisor for over three years now.

if the idea is to build an income stream to use as complement for retirement, or at any given point if needed, then building a dividend growth portfolio always buying adding to it could be a good and peaceful path. On the long run consistency and perseverance could guaranty the desired income stream goal with little worries.

    1) Investing across different asset classes ( Real estate, BTC, gold, equity ).
    2) Learn about equity investing in early part of career. But focus on building your active income first and not jump into trading.
    3) Take a long term POV after hitting 25 lakh portfolio. Understand advantage of making 15% vs 12% ROI.
    4) Add alpha(more then 12% ROI yearly) generating assets (Taking higher risks). Not an advice.
    5) Have cashflow assets in your portfolio. ( Eg. Renting house )
    6) Learn about debt investing.
    7) Think in decades and not in years.
    8) Stop doing the obvious. ( Invest in knowledge and don't blindly follow the trend )
    9) Do not make dumb decisions.

My portfolio is now 4 cr which is 2 rooms, 1 shop, gold, cash, fds, rds, ppf,pf,nps, car, farmland. Some key questions regarding portfolio building.
[1] What is the percentage of your total portfolio that we should keep available to invest at all times?
[2] I for one, almost never have any money left to invest and I always invest completely in all the buying opportunities that get discussed the first day.
[3] I do not then have any remaining cash to invest in new buying opportunities that gets discussed the next day.

Debt/leverage is a very potent tool, if you can manage it, to grow your wealth.
The rich uses debts as a financial tools most effectively to their advantage.
Income is taxable and debt is tax deductible . an asset which doesn’t give you income is a speculative tool. Sometimes it becomes a liability, for example upkeep of an empty property.

You always do talk about purpose, risk, pros & cons on Real Estates, but never a breakdown analysis on its investing that is, how to invest, where to invest; and just like your equity investing video broken down for various active earning capacity bracket, how much to invest. You're just 24.
Your first objective should be to acquire monetizable skills, be as good as you can be. Increase your primary source of income, then only your investment would matter(what I mean to say is even if you manage to pull a crazy 100% return on your portfolio, and if it's just 50000 or 1 lac or 2 lac, it won't be much! On the other hand 20% of 20 lacs or 12-15% of 25-30 lac would be a significant amount (needless to say). So your portfolio, if small, won't increase exponentially, but your salary can

@Akshat, This still looks very hypothetical scenario. Points mentioned here are high level suggestions. Past 7 years I waited for good stocks like L&T, HDFC, FACT, Adani Green n few more for good 2 years period waiting for boom. Post selling, most stocks grew multiple times. What the investors need is tips on when to buy n sell which no one can predict. Stocks market operators are playing much n seems manipulation in pricing.
