Indeed, it was a horrible span. At that time, I was living in Orangi Town, and the Banaras flyover (also known as Bacha Khan) had not yet been built. There were only two ways to leave Orangi Town: Kati Pahari and the Banaras area, both of which were too dangerous for Urdu-speaking people. Unknown individuals would suddenly emerge from Kati Pahari and the surrounding areas of Banaras, attacking buses and targeting Urdu-speaking people, identifying and killing them.
Same against Sindhi-speaking. My father faced himself.

I don't know what happened in the city of my birth and upbringing Karachi starting 1992; I had come to America as student in 1991 and was largely not aware of what went on there. But I remember that sometime in the mid 90s as I was speaking with my family in Karachi over the phone, my mother said something like 'I am glad at least one of my sons is away from this carnage going on Karachi'. We were not then and still not a political family and nobody I know in the large circle of family and friends was affected but it must have been really bad in the city of Karachi then.

I still remember the graphic images which Daily Ummat published on its pages the next day. If I recall correctly, he received a bullet in the back of his head. It was a point-blank shot.
Also, there was Amanullah Khan Niazi who was deputy chief of Karachi Central Jail. He was killed in June 2006.

Man i remember going to pakistan as a child and there was always a curfew, i would always see my parents crying because someone they knew thier son had been killed. I remember people getting asylum in the uk coming to our house to visit with gun shot wounds over them. The army raided my khalahs house in nazimabad, i mean the army was going through the safe looking for my uncle 😂 which made me laugh as a young kid but they were obviously after the money aswell if they can pocket something on the side. I remember it was a wedding we went to and my mum took me to see my uncle, he was hiding in a tunnel in clifton skinny as a stick smiling but looked like he hasn't had a bath in years. My mums best friends family slaughtered while she hid in a cupboard her mum dad brother sister all shot in the house. This aint no great stories to tell. And i can see some comments all excited by what happened. If you lived it you would understand a generation of women who never got married. And whats the outcome? Altaf a dying breed MQM on its knees. The police and the army just slaughtered a generation. And those in power still saying they are Sadiq and ameen.
And for those who think MQM was the cause of this i agree to an extent. Unfortunately the wrong party came to power. They way the people in karachi were treated was like 2nd class citizens. But hey still to this day the Bengalis hindus christians bolochis get the same treatment. An uprising was going to happen but the wrong people came to power. At the hight of MQM power under musharaff i had seen the pathans treated like nothing and i would say now the abuse has become the abuser. Nothing to glorify but trauma and pain. Just wish this was more in depth it dosent do justice at all in 30 mins to be honest.
