    You are truelly pedagogic, the simple explanation of the denitrification process was spot on. We experimented a lot with this method in fish only marine tanks long ago. The tricky part is to balance flow to leangth of the hose. To high ratio and it dont work. To low ratio and hydrogen sulphide forms. And perfect ratio is also depending on nitrate level in incomming water. Not funny when I woke up one day and the whole house smelled like rotten eggs 😀.

      What a compliment from you. Thank you! Never though about hydrogen sulphide. I guess it's important to leave a little bit of nitrate in the effluent so that sulphate is not used.

      @@KoiRun50 correct. I would asume that it is easier to get the balance right in high nitrate ponds than in low nitrate marine tanks. Looking forward to see the progress.

      In part two it didn't really work when it did in the past. I'm trying a longer tube.

    Good information but wouldn't your pond have to be super tiny in order to reap the benefits? I am thinking like a 20 gallon pond with that size hose.

      I'm hoping to return 100 gallons per day of warmed lower nitrate water to my pond from my flow-through system. This water would normally get wasted in the drain. It should make up a good portion of the pond volume. Thank you for your feedback.

      With your massive aquaponic/bogfilter system I would strongly advice not to. In systems without plants I can see some benefits. In systems with plants I can only see problems comming.

      Let me ask you this, if at the end of the hose I attach a sealed container or a series of containers and then an outlet after the last one. That would provide an increased surface area...?

      Should work even better. I find my tiny hose gets plugged up too often. Slower the water flow the better. Control the flow using a valve at the end. If it gets plugged just open the valve right up to clear.

      @KoiRun50 awesome. I have an old sand filter from a pool. Thinking about ending the waterhose in that so there is a ton of surface area for the bacteria to eat the nitrates. I have an elevated settlement pond that water is pumped up into and I was gonna just sink this waterhose down into that and then gravity would allow the water to flow out of it. I won't have to rely on a siphon. And there is no heat transfer issue with having the hose out in the air

    I am sorry, but this is absurd.
    Research on wetland filtration has shown that 1m2 of sand at a depth of 120mm produces denitrification at a rate of 0.5g NO3 per day. The sand has a surface area of 20m2 per kg.
    To put that into context for you, 100g of fish food at 38% protein produces 26.96g of nitrate.
    So if you feed fish food of 5g a day the results will be 1.348g of nitrate and it would take 2.7 M2 of a sand bed filter to remove this.

      I’ve read about similar studies. Detectable nitrate reduction with this tube system is when the tube is almost plugged up and the drip was very very slow. The amount of water dripped is impractical to pump back into the pond. But it was a rare time it’s ever been demonstrated. No worries and thanks for watching.
