    Crin isn’t infallible, but it’s fact he’s been responsible for some genuinely good iem finds (the Timeless is legit at $200) and collaborations that actually moved the needle in this hobby (Moondrop Dusk is already a classic and the Yume Midnight’s are on their way when it’s all said and done).

    • @mensrea1251
      @mensrea1251 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maegnificant You mean the 7hz Dioko. Nope, haven’t forgotten. They’re just not worth mentioning. They’re an inferior version of the Timeless and priced accordingly. You get 70% of the performance for 50% of the price. Sure that’s a good value, and such products have their place in the market, but the Dioko will not be a mainstay recommendation across the board for most audiophiles the way the Dusk or Timeless is. There’s nothing special about it.

    • @maegnificant
      @maegnificant 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mensrea1251 how do you know that though? Have you heard it?

    • @mensrea1251
      @mensrea1251 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maegnificant It's been reviewed (not one reviewer has said it's an all time great - it's good for it's price, but at $99 that's not saying much), the graphs are out (reduced mid bass where the Timeless was perfect; less energy in the upper mids and treble where the Timeless truly distinguishes itself - so, why bother?), and Dioko is HALF the price of the Timeless by the same company released less than a year apart. The Timeless is still selling out. 7hz won't be releasing a greater version of the Tmeless for half the price while still trying to sell the Timeless. ChiFi has changed the game for value, but there's still only so much you can do for under $100. That's reality.

    Very interesting video! After finding myself at a local IEM cafe I've actually had the opportunity to experience a whole bunch of IEMs, one of them being the 7Hz Timeless and I've learned that I actually have a slightly different preference from crinacle, I actually like them, but I thought they were a bit boring. They were good, they did what any good IEM does but it just didn't have that spark or that kick that made them enjoyable when listening to the songs I like. For example, I actually liked the IE900s a lot more than the IE600s or the Sony Z1Rs. But who knows, maybe I might change my mind after listening to more weirder songs that I usually listen to and see how they perform on those.

    I personally think IEM’s are very subjective because factors like fit play such a key role in overall sound quality. I bought the TINHiFi T3 plus based on some positive reviews and really like them. I wanted to know what the ‘next level’, as one reviewer put it, sounded like, so then went for the Moondrop Kato. Many rate them as being as good if not better than the Timeless, but for me they’re severely compromised due to the extra weight. Unless I’m sat very still they fall out quite easily, particularly with the well regarded stock tips, none of which fit me well at all. Only the supplied memory foam tips stay in for me. On that basis alone I wouldn’t personally recommend them.
    On a side note can you trust any reviewer as we don’t actually know how good their hearing is? Quite a few I follow wear glasses, so their eyes have developed a slight imperfection over time. What’s to say they’re hearing isn’t the same. What suits them might not suit you or me at all.

    • @AudioFixation
      @AudioFixation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It’s a fair point, although I think crin is more “objectivist” than most reviewers. In this case, I agree with him. The timeless are very light and comfortable too.

    • @SteveHuffer
      @SteveHuffer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed; I have a pair of RHA t20 Wireless that sound completely different depending on fitting. They are wildly inconsistent and can sound either amazing or terrible, depending on source and depth of insertion. They also seem to take around 10 minutes to warm up (although obviously this could well be just my imagination).
      Actually the Sundaras are also very subject to the environment; when I lie on my couch, the proximity of the cushion affects the sound quite a lot (you can test this by moving a cupped hand back and forth). My other open-backs are not nearly as sensitive.

    • @ari-athbadminton0301
      @ari-athbadminton0301 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fit is so much more important that nuanced tuning signature imo.
      You could not appreciated the beauty of the sound produced by iem if the fit ruins your experience for short or long sessions.
      If you have small ear or large ear canal this becomes even more important because some designs are just plain faulty in that department despite being well tuned.

    I have one and it still sees a fairly amount of use, no QC problems whatsoever to this day and it's my to-go IEM while i'm not at home. My first impressions of the Timeless were "holy crap, bass!" which I wasn't expecting from a planar at all. Then, the TOTL separation was the first thing that caught my attention. It's really that good. The resolution and level of detail is also TOTL, there's not a single thing that goes unnoticed in a track with these. Really don't get folks who look down on the Timeless and I also don't know why people are so finicky when it comes to the so-called "planar timbre". It's ridiculous what this thing can offer for $200.

    I thought crinacle has a beef on the timeless bc it is too big to put into the ear.
    I was thinking of getting the Timeless and ended up going for the Shuoer S12. It is also a planar IEM, about the same performance (as others say) and a bit cheaper. I got it on sale.

Would I buy the Timeless at $199 or buy the Dioko and a Qudelix 5K dac/amp/equalizer for $210 instead???? Probably the Dioko and Qudelix if the Dioko is fairly close the Timeless.

    Loved the review, wanted to offer some more casual listener input to anyone looking to purchase. I ordered the 7hz Timeless a month back and had some serious QC issues (about 4db imbalance to the right)
    To preface, im not some experienced audio veteran but I mix and produce for a side hustle and just generally love music. Nevertheless I own a pair of V-Moda M100 masters (i’m a geek for that sub rumble) and I was hoping these would be an upgrade. I think I may have set my standards a bit too high. Don’t get me wrong I loved them (sent them back due to qc) but really they ever so slightly edged my m100 out in vocal clarity and lose disproportionately in sound stage (positional reproduction is fine it’s just an IEM so it feels like it’s inherently more in your skull). The resolution was incredible and that sub rumble I love so much was definitely there but I personally couldn’t justify $200 on a pair that ever so slightly edges out my mains (I also didn’t want to deal with more QC). On the sibilance note, as a 19 yr old with some treble sensitivity I did not have any issues on high quality recordings however the low quality underground hip hop tracks were borderline painful (really not a knock on the timeless just my taste in music haha). Look, their great iems but I think sometimes I ride this hype train of these are going to be so far out of the park that it makes really good IEMs a disappointment when they don’t just dunk on my $300 full size headphones. I would say for $200 these are great, just don’t be like me and expect these to “redefine the price bracket”
    on a side note, a track that I feel really represents the strengths of the 7hz is Expectations by LUCKI (roast my music taste later), the 808 is so rich and full in the 7hz and the hi hats really gain this incredible clarity that aren’t presents in some of my other sets. Listening to that track on the 7hz and then going back to my airpod pros for daily running really ruined the pros for me lol.

      To each his/her own, but I wouldn’t expect too much. It’s basically a cheaper, watered down, inferior version of the Timeless. Reduced mid-bass when the mid-bass on the Timeless is just fine; less energy in the upper-mids and treble which is where the Timeless truly shines and differentiates itself, so what’s the point? The Dioko is priced at $99 by the same company that continues to sell out the Timeless for a reason. You get 70% of the SQ of the Timeless for 50% of the price, so the value proposition is clear - if you can’t afford the Timeless.

    Crinacle might be good with hearing sound, it doesn't mean his opinion matters more than others. Many of his recommended IEMs are not really good at all, at least not my taste. Also I don't like the way he edits his videos. How he pauses and how camera closes up. Plus, he says "don't die" in the end of video. To me that's very strange thing to say. There is literally nothing subjective about this hobby. If you actually studied audio literature, you’d see that the desired frequency response of IEMs is basically the same amongst both trained and untrained listeners. Anything regarded as “preference” is just a deviation from accuracy and clarity

    There are actually stuff competitive at 100 dollars too as good as this iem. Tuned differently for sure but its all about preference. Some want more bass then other's or as you said the treble can be too harsh and sound un smooth. I believe it's important for the consumer to understand these things before watching reviews because it's definitely easy to get lost on what to buy.

      @@STAYCBias I would be cautious about planar Stuff right now. It will get better but the graphs looks wonky for the treble(not talking about the quality control problem with the new crinacle iem). Could be a filter issue and I've seen some reviewers fix this with more damping done for the nozzle. If upper mid forward imes don't bother this will be fine however I'm a little fatigued with this frequency response. Graphs may not tell everything about how the treble may sound and I'm only going by that but atlest wait for more reviews. No need to buy it now it will be available for months probably

      @@chrisstroud60 that 8khz peak is a driver problem. It’s practically impossible to tune it out. That said the hook-x is the smoothest treble (I’m sensitive too) I’ve heard below 650

      @@MrColdchillin81 yea Im definitely passing on this one. I have the mele and been happy with it. I was going to get a t3+ but don't think it's much better except treble extension maybe. Also have the olina and it's great for details but lacks sub Bass in my opinion.

    About that channel imbalance. To me it seems to be a recurring problem with planar magnetic anything as they seem to have a somewhat inconsistent treble performance.
    Not sure if it's because of the nature of the motor structure itself or their larger size than a dynamic driver.
    Edit: Wonder if a dual driver between a 14mm-ish planar as the woofer and a 5mm micro dynamic driver or a BA as a tweeter would give one of these a more consistent treble performance. Wouldn't necessarily call the PM's treble performance dealbreaking however.

      KZ is trash, I own both the ZS10 and the Timeless, and the Timeless completely blows them away without even trying. KZ also lies about the specs on their IEMs, the extra drivers and armatures are dummy/for show, so they're scamming people too. Probably why Crinacle isn't promoting them at all through his site anymore.

    not for me, Crin is not credible in terms of IEM, because his method (he doesn't have consistent insertion depth and doesn't say the distance from the reference plane to get his 8k peak) and his tool is not compliant (his 711 coupler doesn't have a good mic). Rin Choi is much better at measuring and also teardown of IEMs, but he stopped since 2014 (he used professional grade 711 coupler, not like Crin's Chinese clone 711). Crinacle should take the red pill and used his over ear measurement rig to redo as much IEM measurement he can, because his Headphone measurement rig is more accurate (GRAS 43AG7 with RA0042 Coupler, which is a bit problematic since it reduced the peak that is useful to know if an iem is shallow insertion or deep insertion type). Also Crinacle should really consider THD measurement, because Ear-Fi naver measuredly Timeless and it has baffling 5% THD (probaby 3rd order distortion too), which explains TImeless sharp sound. Also Timeless has pretty bad FR because it isn't linear and even had a dip around 4k, probably a sign of Phase cancellation in the housing.

    I don't like Crin, I don't like his taste, I don't like his measurements - they are not that accurate as everyone thinks. Timeless are popular not because of Crin's blessing but because they are good by themselves.
