I watch other tennis racquet review channels but never got to watch this channel until now. One of the best reviewers that I have seen. I’m a bit biased since I play with the previous version Boom Pro and love it. (And I’ve tried A LOT of different racquets) I’m just happy that someone shares the same excitement for the racquet. Subscribed! Keep it up!
Okay, having decided that my Gravity Pro was too cumbersome and that my Extreme Tour needed way too much modification to play solidly, I bought a discounted 2022 Boom Pro. Dang, Luca is right! Leather grip and maybe 4 grams around the hoop and I have a monster racquet. It's significantly more powerful (with a full bed of poly) than the Gravity Pro or Extreme Tour, spinnier than the Gravity, more maneuverable than either (due to all the lead the Extreme needed), and controlled enough to allow me to swing through the ball. My OHBH is rock solid and the slice is fine (if not as good as the Gravity). Even touch shots are great. I am just pleased as I can be thus far (several hits and two blowout matches)! Let's hope the honeymoon keeps going!
This is genuinely a very intriguing racquet. Sweetspot is definitely higher up and everything seems to happen in the upper half of the hoop. It's like the racquet gives you a 20% "power up" in terms of normal pace and spin when you hit it there. I guess that's where the 'Boom!' comes from. One of the most 'fun' 98sq" racquets I've used in a while. The way I would describe it is that the racquet always want to do "something with the ball" when you hit in the string bed. Slices are good, groundstrokes are good, and racquet is surprisingly stable for its weight with good ability to block back big serves etc. The racquet can occasionally launch a ball if you hit it in the wrong part of the spring bed but that's the only thing I think you need to get used to. Strung mine at 53/52 with Sonic Pro 1.25mm.
I got back into tennis 2 months ago after a 13 year hiatus, and I instantly fell in love with the boom pro (the previous version, not 2024) visually and based my decision entirely on that. But 2 months later, it's still my favorite of all the ones I've tried! Vcore 98 a close second, which makes sense given your comparison. Also totally agree that it can be difficult to stay controlled with slower shots. Spot on takes on the boom pro.
It’s crazy how similar our opinions on rackets are, before I even found your channel I was using a pure aero 98, always use a leather grip, and my favorite racket of all time is the head gravity pro(one day I’ll be good enough to use it lol). Keep up the great work!
I loved the last version. I played with Babolat my whole life, from pure drive to pure strike then eventually was playing with/ Head Speed Pro but wasn't getting enough spin or launch angle. I switched after watching your previous video a year ago; it was my best decision. Feels like a pure Strike but more controlled and softer on the arms.

Hey, i dont know which one to buy between the blade v9, boom pro and extreme pro, I am a one hander and I usually play with heavy top spin forehand and the backhand a bit flatter... Which one you recommend for each type of player ? Thanks!
I think the Boom gets overlooked because most advanced players wanting a HEAD racquet choose between the more consistent all rounder Radical, or the base line laser beam Gravity. The Boom seems to be more of an old school head heavy plough monster ?
It's actually headlight (31 inch balance point), just quite polarized with both some mass in the top and in the handle, hence the medium swing weight for a relatively heavy racket
Luca can you do a comparison of the boom pro and the vcore 98 since they have both tried this similar unique head shape? I tried and failed to switch to the boom pro because i use a lot of slice.and i found i could not control approach shots or volleys that well. I really miss the forehand though, man it can create a heavy ball. I haven't found the vcore 98 to play much at all like the boom pro, interested in your thougbts on why, launch angle?
yeah especially if other manufacturers start to go with this wider 10 and 2 head shape idea. I've seen some people talk about putting lead lower down on the hoop to try and lower the location of the sweetspot since they couldn't get used to the higher position this head shape creates, would this work? does it defeat the purpose of the racquet?@@RacketsRunnersVancouver

I have been trying to decide between the ezone 98 tour and vcore 98 tour for weeks. I bought the 2022 boom pro on sale for kicks. Used it once didn’t love it. Just got off the court, 2 hr lesson hitting all 3. My coach said it wasn’t even close. Boom Pro all the way. I was just a better player with it. Plenty of spin , depth, control. Feels much better on off center shots than the other 2. Listing both both yonex on Facebook marketplace. This summer I am all in on Boom Pro.
I would love to see you do a comparison between the Gravity mp and The speed mp. I am thinking of switching from the speed to the gravity so I would love to see a comparison video.

This is SUCH an unusual racquet. I’m really surprised how changes in this racquet’s hoop design affects how it plays to such an extent. Detailed observations below: - Typical Head polarized feel to the weighting of the racquet (which can be offset by adding some lead tape to the throat) - Sweetspot is further up in the string bed where the racquet head has been widened from East/West. Racquet almost feels like it elongated (even though its standard length). The upper half of the hoop is where where all the action happens. Hitting the ball in the middle or lower down in the string bed results in a much flatter ball trajectory. - As a consequence of the different hoop design, traditional balance specs don’t seem to be representative. I’ve seen unstrung Boom Pro specs ranging from 305mm-310mm. Normally I wouldn’t be keen on a racquet with such as HL spec but that sort of range for this racquet feels better balanced to me than my normal preferred ~ 315mm-320mm. Racquet still feels slightly demanding to swing - you’ll need some physicality or good preparation/timing to get the best out of it. - Medium firm feeling in terms of flex. Not exactly plush, but not stiff or brassy feeling either, but that can vary depending on where you’re hitting in the string bed. - By far, the liveliest 98sq” racquet that I ever played with! There can be quite big variations in response depending on where you hit in the string bed - at times, it can feel like a wild mustang that wants to charge off into the distance with you on the back of it! It’s like the racquet constantly wants to inject another 10%, 20%, 30% of additional spin and pace into every ball that you hit. Every slice serve I hit for example, slices about 1-2ft wider compared to my normal racquet (a customised Wilson Shift 300). However, this ‘wild mustang’ characteristic has its benefits - more action on all ball, awkward shots for your opponent and ‘get out of trouble power’ when you’re pulled out wide or in a defensive position. If you like racquets that help you with spin/power and you’re the sort of player who can corral the headstrong personality of the racquet, you have a real weapon on your hands with the Boom Pro. - Specs can vary a lot due to manufacturing QC. I’ve seen unstrung weights vary from 307g-316g, balance between 305mm-312mm etc. Most of the samples I saw were heavier and more HL than the than the advertised spec. Bear in mind that you can trim 4g from the racquet just by swapping the butt cap trap door (which has a weighted cylindrical ‘knob’ inside it) for the lighter Head XT style butt caps from a few years ago (which doesn’t have the 4g weighted cylindrical knob inside it) Overall, I think this racquet is definitely worth a demo, just bear in mind that you will probably need a few hitting sessions to get used to it and possibly experiment with tweaking some of the specs to suit.
I have defected 2022 Boom Pro, with luck I have given someone to custom painted for me. Think he may have sanding a little too much that make racket a bit more flexible and comfortable. Really good racket control is quite unique. I also have VC 98 really hard racket to understand BP is more user friendly for most I think.
Hey Luca, thanks for the review! I myself come from the racquet history of RF97, Prestige MP (the older "real" MP), Prince 93P 18*20, CX200 Tour 18*20 - which makes me a control freak. I would usually just shrug off "Power" racquet lines like Ezone, Puredrive, etc. and naturally thought Boom fits in the category and never given it a serious look. Your review here, combined with Tennisnerd Jonas' high praise, made me want to test out one of my buddy's Boom Pro (2022) and I was pleasantly surprised! Didn't feel too overpowered, felt like the control was still there. Definitely moved the needle up in power, at the cost of some notches down in control. But overall still playable. Would love to test out the 2024 version and maybe even play around w some customisation! What customisations have you tried and what's your current setup? Have you tried leather grip w some leads around the hoop?
Hey Luca. I play with the latest Radical MP, but I feel lack of control and don't like my serves with it. Thinking in switching to the Gravity MP or Boom MP. Any thoughts? I like the idea of the larger sweetspot but also appreciate extra power my shots would get using the Boom. Can't play test either here in Brazil though.
I am demoing the 2024 model right now, coming from the 2022 model. I just switched back to straight arm FH a couple of weeks ago with my old 2022 model with good results, but I really haven't been tested yet with an opponent that hits with real pace. You mentioned on the 2022 model that it had a unique swing pattern, also... And I am hoping you can elaborate on that, please! Thanks!
No, not at all. The head shape differences make for massive playability differences. They both accomplish similar spin/power but with very different feels and swing patterns.
I owned one for about 3 months and have a one handed backhand. Like he says the launch angle makes it hard to hit biting one hand slice but if you are set up it was not bad for ripping topspin backhands. Being set is important because also like he said its a bit sluggish and you can't catch up if your prep is late or need to improvise much
I use the outgoing model which I’m going to buy a few more of as they are stupid cheap right now. I have a one handed back hand and I really like it. I now try to hit through the ball a lot more than the slice which has been good for my game. I find it very adaptable. I can pick the ones up off my toes if my opponent hits deep with just a flick. I can step in and rip it cross court and I can go down the line fairly easily too. I don’t find the slice as bad as the guy in the video suggests but it is certainly a weapon if you’ve got the mechanics.
Do you mind explaining the term "launch angle" (and "launchy")? I've heard it many times in your channel (and other channels too) but couldn't understand what exactly it means. Could not find a good answer from Google too.
I’ll chime in. It’s the trajectory of the ball after it leaves the strings. An open 16x19 pattern like a pure Aero will naturally produce loopy topspin shots with a high launch angle. A closed 18x20 pattern will naturally produce more Laserlike shots with a lower net clearance and a more penetrating ball. (Think shooting through the court)
Can’t get my hand on the 2024 one but demoing the 2022 boom pro tomorrow. Luca, randomly, what are the shorts and shoes you’re wearing in the hitting session? Cheers, D.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver Thanks for getting back to me Luca. One more question 🙂. How would you say the new boom pro compares to the tfight 305? Cheers as always, Donald
Any thoughts on how the Boom Pro compares to the Aero 98? Many of your comments match up with my feelings about the Aero 98, including comparisons to it versus the Blade.
I can’t comment on the new one, but I had the original boom pro and switched to the aero 98. For me, there were a couple of reasons. 1) head quality control is ass, mine was 13 grams over speced. I need a leather grip, and before I knew it I had a 345 gram static weight which is far too high for me. 2) i got way more natural spin with the aero 98 While I love the aero 98, there are a couple of things it does worse though. 1) feel. I loved the feel of the boom pro, it reminded me of an easier to use gravity pro. 2) volleys. Volleys just felt more stable, but that’s probably because of the higher static weight. I’d lean towards the pure aero 98 just because it’s probably the greatest racket ever created for a mid level recreational player, but way more people should be using the boom pro.
Not necessarily over the aero 98, but I know a lot of people that just don’t like babolat rackets. If you fall in that camp, id highly recommend giving it a try. In addition, I definitely need to generate more head speed with the aero 98 to hit it deep vs the boom pro that gave me more natural depth on my shots, especially when my positioning wasn’t very clean. But it has to be noted my boom was so out of wack weight wise it’s hard to know if it’s not just that.
Was wondering this as well. I actually switched to the rafa as it gave a lot more feel which I have been rather happy with. However, I wanted to have a more controlled setup in the mix
The Aero 98 is an awesome racket with a more modern stiff feel and more spin. The Boom is also great for spin and power but has more of that classic feel and flex which I (and a lot of people) love. The Aero will be more instantly likeable but both end up performing very similarly (and very well) in a lot of metrics.
So im finally geling with the boom pro (v.1), and am close to committing to it. But I've also been testing some weight on the blade and speed mp, and when i go back to the boom, im missing the mass based power a bit, but am hesitant to make it heavier because of its slightly laggy swing feel. Its feeling slightly mushy and underpowered though. Do you do any mods on your BPs, and where would you add weight?
@RacketsRunnersVancouver thanks for the response! Last year, I briefly used weight at 5&7 with the radical MP to add mass and keep the SW low, but it felt suuuuper laggy. Update: I have a bit of weight at 10, 12 and 2 now, and I feel like even though that placement ups the swing weight, it has helped with my acceleration. Something about the weight carrying through and finishing the swing, I think. Have you had such an experience? This effect might be from specific.I think I'm going to tip weight my BPs to some degree moving forward, despite initially complaining about laggy-ness.
Hey Luca how would you compare this Boom Pro vs VCore 95 ?! I'm demoing right now, and even if I love the feeling of my Gravity, the VCore is producing such an HEAVY ball on clay !!!
It's a good question. The Boom Pro feels more traditionally controlled and the Vcore more like a racket you need to use spin to control. It's a really good combination of Gravity and Vcore so may be the perfect racket for you!
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver finally I went to Boom Mp; really easy to play, above average control if spin is applied, powerful yet surprisingly comfortable.
I wouldn't say they're that similar especially in the way they swing. It's a tough comparison to make because of that and because, they actually do a lot of things similarly but this is one you should really test if you can.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver ok thank you very much. I tried the speed, i Need to try the boom now. Unfortunately I’m not in Canada, I’ll try find someone here in italy, but the boom pro is difficult to find as play test
I got 2 boom pros based on your previous reviews, during the holiday sale. I went with the lynx touch at 52, based on heads recommendations. My shots are always a bit long when going for a winner. Do you think switching to the lynx tour at 52 would help this? Or should I up my tension Also switched to a leather grip + tourna blue overgrip. I love the additional handle weight. Any other customizations that you would recommend?
The previous Boom Pro inceptioned the 2-handed backhand into my mind. Felt so natural to hit the backhand with 2 hands in the handle. Yes, I agree about the slice. Not its forte.
make a best strings video but make sure to actually pick a winner aha i play with a speed 18x20 and just need something thatll hold its tension but still probably leaning towards poly any suggestions?
Love your videos, Would you buy a Wilson Blade V8 16x19 for 179 USD or Pure Aero 98 for regular price. I am currently using Prince Warrior 100 ESP from 2014 and play with lots of spin and power .
Thank you! It depends on whether you want more spin/power or more control. Once you figure that out, go for the Blade if you want control and the PA98 if you want spin/power.
The past version is only $120. Was the 2024 version a HUGE upgrade? I’m contemplating getting the last years version. It seems like I’ve heard a lot of negatives from that one
Boom Pro has one od the most reliable flat shots at that weight reference … I own both Pro and Mp and I have customized the Mp to 332gr , now it’s a spin mosnter with great torque resistance whilst the Pro is way better on flat shots . It’s interesting as a fairly new line is actually almost perfect for old-style players ( which I’m not ) . It feels very manoeuvrable , way more than the Speed Pro . Great review Luca ! Greetings from Italy 🎉
The flat shot isn't something I wanted to talk too much about because I thought maybe it was just me since nothing about the specs should equate to a reliable flat shot, but a lot of people seem to agree with that so I 100% do as well.
what are the differences between the boom pro and the extreme tour? they seem very similar outside of the extreme tour being more whippy. btw i think a good video idea would be “battle of head 98’s” with extreme tour vs boom pro vs radical mp🤔🤔
That sounds like a great video. The biggest difference is going to be that head shape. There is much more leverage and power with the Boom whereas the Extreme is more traditional but also very spin-friendly.
Not to everyone's taste I guess, but the color combination is almost identical to the classic combination that Bianchi bicycles use, which are hugely popular (partly because of the look).
Hello again, singe I started Playoff Tennis I follow all if lucas advices. With this racket comes a huge Problem. It feels stiff and my arm hurts a Bit (Lynx Tour 24 kg) The rec. String from Head is Lynx touch. Should I Go with this String or try hybrid : Lynx/ Velocity Im Not That Rich, so I have to bring it to stringer-guy (25€).
Try Hawk Touch and Velocity. Because Lynx Tour is sharp it will eat through Velocity.

Go for the Gravity MP or the Wilson Blade! The Boom MP will be a step in the wrong direction if you want more control.
Thanks!
How does this compare to the Radical Pro 2023? I am deciding between these two. Thanks.
Great racket review as always!!! Please review yonex percept 100d if you have any chance 🙏
Thank you! I hope we bring them in but I'm not sure 🥲
Hi Luca. how's the boom pro compared to the new pure strike 98 16x19? Do they play almost the same?
No, not at all. The head shape differences make for massive playability differences. They both accomplish similar spin/power but with very different feels and swing patterns.
Head Lynx tour is my favorite string - gold color -55mains 16g
53 cross 17g- in my iso 305
thx for the review!!! might be a weird question here, but which shorts are you wearing? :)
You're welcome! Nike Flex Stride running shorts.
Great review as always
Thank you!
How does the Boom Auxetic 2.0 compare (feels) to the Prestige Auxetic 2.0 ?
Please, please do a comparison with the Gravity Pro!!
That seems to be something of interest to a lot of people so I'll have to whip something up!
but now there is still a question in the room. How good is it for the one-handed backhand?
We'll have to address that soon 👀
@@RacketsRunnersVancouvernice 😎🤓
Nice review. Have any plan for Boom MP?
Hope to see video on Boom MP. I have the last version and would like to hear what has changed.
I think we'll do a Head MP rackets overview instead of a specific one but I'll talk about it in good detail.
Thank you so much! That makes perfect sense.
Summed it up perfectly!
How would you compare this to a pure strike 98 16x19? You mentioned that one being quite powerful as well. Is this one more consistent?
I would still say the Strike has more traditional feel and consistency but both are very stable/consistent.
Do you feel like the 2.0 Auxetic is worth ~$150 more than the 1.0 ?
Can’t get my hand on the 2024 one but demoing the 2022 boom pro tomorrow. Luca, randomly, what are the shorts and shoes you’re wearing in the hitting session? Cheers, D.
They are Nike Flex Stride running shorts!
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver Thanks for getting back to me Luca. One more question 🙂. How would you say the new boom pro compares to the tfight 305? Cheers as always, Donald
One of the underrated racket.
2) i got way more natural spin with the aero 98
While I love the aero 98, there are a couple of things it does worse though.
@@willydasquid1615why should way more people be using the boom pro vs the aero 98 in your opinion?
I use a leather grip and nothing else. I briefly used it with lead at 5&7 but went away from that pretty quickly.
Nice! While testing, the BOOM was my second choice... while GRAVITY TOUR was the favorite 😅
Sounds like someone I know...
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver 🫶🏻 🤣🤣
Top 5 string video bro. Appreciate you 🙏🏾
Hi Luca, how do you compare this boom pro with the HEAD speed MP? I heard they are quite similar
54lbs
I would go to 55 pounds. This racket doesn't like low tension because of its launchy tendencies.
Which do you prefer between this new Boom pro and Ezone 98? They seem very similar in playability. Thanks
???
The Boom Pro, mainly because I find the feel to be so much better.
And is the change enough that you would recommend the new version or previous one?
I would say so, unless you can find the old one at a great price.
Would love a top 5 of any string category!
Will do!
yes for top 5 poly
Sound like the Boom Pro is comparable to ezone 98, powerful but controlled racket
can share your opinion on this ?
In a way, yes, but it achieves it in a very different, more gung-ho sort of way.
Top 5 racquet for touch and feel shots aka drop shots and slices
The previous Boom Pro inceptioned the 2-handed backhand into my mind. Felt so natural to hit the backhand with 2 hands in the handle.
Yes, I agree about the slice. Not its forte.
It's awesome with the two-hander.
After adding a leather grip, the slices on this racquet are comparable to head speed pro graphine 360+ amazing
make a best strings video but make sure to actually pick a winner aha i play with a speed 18x20 and just need something thatll hold its tension but still probably leaning towards poly any suggestions?
Which is one is better between Boom Pro vs Blade 98 v9? Maybe you could do a video on that. I think many people would like to see that
Definitely an interesting video idea, I'll see what I can do!
Is this pretty similar to Yonex Vcore 95?
Hi Luca, which string would you recommend?
Head Lynx Tour is great in this racket.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver Many thanks!
Love your videos,
Would you buy a Wilson Blade V8 16x19 for 179 USD or Pure Aero 98 for regular price.
I am currently using Prince Warrior 100 ESP from 2014 and play with lots of spin and power .
Thank you! It depends on whether you want more spin/power or more control. Once you figure that out, go for the Blade if you want control and the PA98 if you want spin/power.
Boom Pro VS Gravity Pro? Whats the verdict?
The Gravity Pro is a better overall racket but for people who like the uniqueness of the Boom, there's nothing quite like it.
Which racket is better for control the gravity or speed?
Gravity!
Is this or Speed MP stronger/easier for intermediate with OHBH and long swing forehand?
Did you end up getting an answer on this?
The past version is only $120. Was the 2024 version a HUGE upgrade? I’m contemplating getting the last years version. It seems like I’ve heard a lot of negatives from that one
You should know by now, the answer is “No.” just buy the prior version at half the price unless money is no option for you.
Would you say it's like a mix of a Aero 98 and the Speed Pro? I kinda got this feeling.
No a mix of Gravity and Ezone 98
It's tough to say because it's such a unique swing pattern. More like a mix of the Vcore 98 and Gravity.
Loved the previous Boom Pro and it's paintjob. The new paintjob not so much (I also don't like it on the Speed).
Top five poly strings, yes please!
The new Head paintjobs are questionable at best. String videos are coming soon!
Top five poly video would be great!
Much diference from the previous pro version?
No just small differences in feel.
how would you compare the boom pro with the aero 98 in terms of power
?
Very similar, maybe the Boom Pro is a touch more inherently powerful but both can really launch the ball.
no major updates and price differences make the old one still chosen, i think :)
Luca, the people have spoken: it's time you start interviewing / hitting with pro athletes
One day!
Is this like a vcore 98 with classic feel or did I totally misunderstand you lol?
Yes, that's a very good way of putting it 😅
how is this racket compared to the vcore?
Similar because of the shape, of course, but the Vcore feels more modern and spin-friendly whereas this has a more traditional flex to it.
Looks like the 2022 Boom Pro. Head has been mailing in the paint jobs the last few years.
I tend to agree...
Please review the new Boom MP!
I'm not sure if I'll do a full Boom MP review but maybe a Head MP overview video.
my choice since launch
This guy knows...
When new extreme?
I'm not quite sure yet.
When’s the speed pro Novak legend coming out
I'm not quite sure.
Has the auxetic 2.0 made the racket more comfortable than the 2022
A little bit, yes.
Yes for top 5 poly video
Love yours passion to compare and I believe I found my babe to
Thank you
Glad you found it! You're welcome!
Looks like a good option for Roddicks switch
Hopefully he's paying attention. The serve would be wow...
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver did you try commenting on his tweet? You never know if he might read!
what are the differences between the boom pro and the extreme tour? they seem very similar outside of the extreme tour being more whippy.
btw i think a good video idea would be “battle of head 98’s” with extreme tour vs boom pro vs radical mp🤔🤔
That sounds like a great video. The biggest difference is going to be that head shape. There is much more leverage and power with the Boom whereas the Extreme is more traditional but also very spin-friendly.
5 months later is it still your stick of choice?
Yes! Although I am looking to switch it up soon.
Is it matte like the 2024 speed mp ?
Yes it is.
for the player looking for serios fun, head knows wat i mean
Do you propose to CUSTOMIZE this racket?
It’s not too necessary honestly. Maybe just a leather grip
That racket makes me want to brush my teeth
😭
There are four different head racquets I could switch to: Radical Pro, Extreme Pro, Boom pro, and Gravity Pro…. Even the prestige.
Which one offers most power?
This review sounds like it’s not beating Gravity Pro. Okay.
Does anything beat that racket though?
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver for me not. But I wonder!
Too many racquets these days
They are more of collectibles now
If only they could change that god awful colour!
Not to everyone's taste I guess, but the color combination is almost identical to the classic combination that Bianchi bicycles use, which are hugely popular (partly because of the look).
Can't believe someone actually commented this. I own a celeste Oltre XR2 and it's a huge part of why I first gravitated to the Boom.
Head have lost the plot with their horrible cosmetics
Hello again, singe I started Playoff Tennis I follow all if lucas advices. With this racket comes a huge Problem. It feels stiff and my arm hurts a Bit (Lynx Tour 24 kg) The rec. String from Head is Lynx touch. Should I Go with this String or try hybrid : Lynx/ Velocity
Im Not That Rich, so I have to bring it to stringer-guy (25€).
Try Hawk Touch and Velocity. Because Lynx Tour is sharp it will eat through Velocity.
Awesome! Glad it worked for you as well.
