    Then Adrien:
    0) The cellphone is no needed
    1) High Floor enabled
    2) Beacon in a condom
    3) launch it while on land not in water
    4) Set on fixed mode
    5) Obtain visual + GPS tracking
    6) Take your time
    7) Drag an drop to don't disturb people
    8) In the water if something happens take the beacon out of the water and continue moving.
    9) Landing it while on land not in water

      no cell - SO PHONE NOT NEEDED FOR VISUAL LOCK? During the video it said - it lost visual and is using GPS only. (okay) but it re-locks on when you get closer, without needing to click on the "+" sign to select a target? I thought phone had to track visually? But it can track without the phone? (I believe my mavic must have photo sight too). Not flown my Skydio 2 yet.
      It's 22 degreew F here right now and sunny. NO THANKS. Sunny with SNOW.

    I did a YT search on flying this drone over water and this was the first result. 1. I suck at my job. 2. All the talk about that other drone maker, this blows that and every other drone out the water. 3. I am on the fence as I need to justify the cost then I see this. If the Skydio is this good, imagine what future iterations can do. Guess I need to rework my budget.

    Many thanks for sharing the flight! I’ve learned a lot.
    I would shrink wrapped the controller in plastic temporarily. I would have a secured wired attached to the controller and put it around your neck. Maybe then Velcro the secured shrink wrapped controller to you back left hand while you wear a Velcro half cut off gloves. You can have easy access of the controller and kite. It will be water proof and should be ready to be access by your right hand. 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Throw a under water camera underneath your board while you are at it. 😂
    Again thank for the awesome ride.

    I lost my Skydio 2 today. I hopelessly watched it descending into the Atlantic Ocean, about 50 yards from the shore. If the "I" in AI stands for intelligence, then this being willingly committed suicide.
    I have been using my S2 for shooting water sport many times now, kiteboarding, wing foiling, etc. It worked pretty well. I always launch it from the beach and land it on the beach, using kitchen plastic wrap (and rubber band) to waterproof the beacon and hang it behind my neck. Either motion tracking or fix track, it did what I expected.
    I guess I became too comfortable with this method, and over-confident with its "intelligence". I set out kite foiling today, checked the main battery level, it was full. The beacon was still in the plastic wrap I used last time, so everything looked good.
    On the beach, I launched the drone first, then the kite. Set it to fixed track mode and everything worked like before. In my mind, the drone is smart enough, that if anything goes wrong over the water, it will return to the launching point. Sadly, this wasn't true.
    I tied the beacon to my shoulder strap and got into the water. The drone followed me initially, but after a minute or so, it moved away. I thought to myself, my body is blocking the signal, it will come back when I get on my foil. Oh boy, I was wrong.
    When I didn't see the drone after a few more minutes, I returned to the shore. There I saw my S2 hovering above the wavy sea, about 50 yards from the shore, slowly descending into the water. It was a hopelessly sinking feeling that I'll probably remember for a while.
    It turns out, the plastic wrap I previously used had worn out, it leaked water and the beacon died as soon as I entered the water. Instead of returning to the launching point, the drone decided it should just "land" into the Atlantic Ocean. All the respect I had with this "intelligent" product, accumulated over many months, now is greatly damaged.
    I probably won't buy another Skydio drone, until:
    1) They come up with a waterproof beacon, and
    2) It doesn't commit water suicide anymore.

    • @unlikelymass5626
      @unlikelymass5626 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not trying to start an argument but in all respect it’s not their fault the plastic bag has worn out I’m not saying it’s yours either because you can’t choose if it wears out or not tho

    • @EntropyLoser
      @EntropyLoser 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unlikelymass5626 Yes, I was definitely at fault not checking the waterproofing before going into the water. But being marketed as one of the best AI drone out there, this is very disappointing.
      Besides water damage to the beacon itself, a lot of things can go wrong between the beacon and the drone, avoiding landing in the water should have one of the top priorities, because it means certain death for a drone.

    3. if battery gets super low will it? HOME and LAND or LAND IN WATER?
    I'd like to know in any event - it would home to land unless that is aborted by the controller.

    I enjoy having/using my Skydio 2 and I have had no issues with being aloft over water. Having said that ... the amazing part of this video is the nearly 15 minute flight time. I have been using my Skydio 2 for over a half year and getting 15 minutes of contiguous flight time is a challenge given the crappy actual flight time I have experienced. I wonder how much of this video content was sped up in editing prior to posting on YT.
    Skydio has achieved a number of postitives in drone tech. But, two characteristics are total losers; real life battery life and real life range of the controller link. Hopefully, any Skydio 3 we may see fixes these stupid bummers.

      To Ed’s point, I have not found battery life to be an issue, but I do hope the Skydio 3 has something like Occusync in it. I love my Skydio and the AI controlling it, but the range is often the limiting factor for me, so I always bring my Mavic Air 2 along as well. Love you Skydio! Keep pushing the boundaries. And thanks for the awesome inspiring video!

    • @DRONIXAR
      @DRONIXAR 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you need to fly so far?, what’s the problem with the range? I love my Skydio and from my point of view is the best so far, I get aerial images really outstanding from high and also I can fly between objects backward or to the sides like no other can fly. In this way I can get unique footage please look at my channel an find how to obtain several things that only Are possible with Skydio.

    • @edruttledge342
      @edruttledge342 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DRONIXAR Range helps here in the US Pacific Northwest. The Oregon coast is rugged and it helps to be able to get the UAS out farther to capture the scene in totality. The wifi-based signal used in the Skydio system also has a degree of latency, producing occasional control issues and data feedback. I need real-time feedback on altitude from the AZ so that I remain within the FAA regs. There have been instances where there was a lag in this critical data. I am the PIC and I am responsible. But, the signal delay of a wifi-based system adds a hassle to piloting. Just saying.
