The final lawn renovation has just begun and it's pretty minimal compared to some of my older projects but there are few areas that need some work. The first small spot will be seeded with fescue and reel mowed and the front section by the street will be seeded with my RKLC Ryegrass and should better match my front yard.

Take a black sharpy marker and write over the indicator lines and it shows up very well. Also did that with my backpack sprayer

As someone with a pretty shade heavy lawn, will be interested to see how your shade plots work out.
Began taking a more serious and intentional process to the lawn at our house that was mostly a wild jungle from neglect when we bought it 6 years ago, and was just buying different seeds at the big box store as I set about lawn renovation.
Am living in Austria (IL transplant) and here they don't list grasses with the common names like rye or fescue but use their more specific latin names.
Like Lolium perennie for rye or Poa --- for KBG. They also include their cultivar and percentage so you see how much of the different rye, fescues, KBG you get in a mix.
Have struggled in the deeper shady areas of the yard where bushes and trees limit the sun. But began using last year "Wolf Garten's Sonnen & Schatten premium mix". A German company's premium sun and shade mix, and have seen very improved results in the deep shade areas where moss was thriving.
It contains 50% rye (2 types) 23% red fescue (3 types, one which is a creeping so will spread like KBG), and the rest, 18% KBG (two types)
What I'm curious to follow as the grass grows outs over the coming years is one of the KBG seeds, it is known as "Poa Supina Supreme" and is supposedly extremely shade tolerant. And unlike many shade grasses it also does well in heavy foot traffic. This is a very pricey seed that comes from a grass native to the German/Austrian Alps, so usually is a very small amount in a seed mix, 3% in the Wolf Garten mix. But reading up on it, it seems to spread in areas it gets established in so the low seed count just means one has to wait for nature to do its thing.
This summer we had a very hot July with temps regularly in the 90s and nearly no rain in the month. The shady areas grass did pretty well with minimal watering, full sun areas the grass suffered. Prepping for some renovations and reseeding in the coming weeks and hope to establish more of the same seed vs the random big box store grasses I seeded over the years.
Also doing this without access to most of the herbicides available in the US. No preemergents for crab grass over here. Just killed off an area of lawn where it has been rather resilient and hope to build up a dense turf this fall that will crowd it out next year.
After this long worded comment, am curious if Poa Supina Supreme is a shade cultivar you are aware of?
If you move to a place with shallow roots from a mature maple in the middle of the yard, and you post about the lawn care challenges it brings, you can be sure I'll tune in.
I’ll be giving the neck fan a try. The daily heat index in Louisiana is north of 105…I hate it. You can sweat at 7pm just standing still in the shade. I hate the heat as much as you, Ryan!

Your skin gets hot and absorbs heat, the best thing to fight the heat is to cover your skin as much as you can with lightweight breathable clothing. A wet gaiter around the neck helps so much for me.

Will be ordering bulk powder fert at some point. Have always thought that would be such a great type of product to utilize. I remember one day pondering if I could somehow use an old blender to break down granular to do the same with - obviously didn’t happen and horribly impractical. It’s the spoon feed value move IMO.

I've been on a liquid fertilizer regimen for the past 3 years, and have used a lot of soluble products some expensive, and some not as expensive, and some with claims that are pretty controversial. The price on the EqualizORR was great, fast shipping to my house! Got to use my EqualizORR the day before yesterday, and I was really pleased with how easily it dissolved and sprayed. Looking forward to greener grass in the next few days.

Love your channel. I’m in western Nebraska with I believe about same weather as you. I got Kentucky blue grass that is decent. Would it be a good idea to power rake and plug and over seed this fall. Haven’t power raked in 5 years and I do try to mulch. What would you do and when should I do this in fall. Thank you for any advice.

I know I did a boo-boo…but can’t change just recently found your channel. I killed my lawn pure weeds mostly crabgrass thick and poa spring. Just moved in this home. I killed it a 3 weeks ago plans to reseed just realized I shouldn’t plant for a year…I used 365!- round up.! Is there anything I can do to help itdissipate through my lawn faster ?

Any suggestions for grass type for mid transition zone Kentucky Louisville. Tried a mix of Perennial Rye (sideways) and KBG but the perennial rye didnt survive the brutal heat and drought, and it seemed to shade out the bluegrass. Thanks.

About to level and overseed my front yard using your grass seed. This season I’ve been having an issue with spotted spurge. Any recommendations to get rid of it? Or what i can use with the overseeding process
You mention the new products for high pH soils. I deal with that in IN. Curious if you have ever tested your irrigation water for pH and alkalinity? I recently did and found both to be high. I'm wondering if that may be partially to blame for my soil pH. Considering fertigation system to run a neutralizer. Thoughts?

I just renovated and my perennial rye was growing well until late, it’s showing browning by the root which is believe to be fungus or disease. How soon can I use disease-x or insect based products on new lawn?

You wimp. Come to las vegas. Last year i was dethatching the fescue in late september in 112 degrees. Seeded october 1st. Frosted oct 20th 😂. The window between 110 and frost is like 4 weeks.
