this is the most helpful channel for photoshop and related tools, ever. no intros or tangents, just straight to the meat, and there's even chapters for the relevant sections. keep up the great work man! i wish you more blessings in life to be able to keep doing what youre doing 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I really appreciate that you compare these free A.I. tools. There are so many A.I. tools out there for graphic design user, but none compare them for the best result like you did.
I was all for Upscayl, then you mentioned the line,… which has been mentioned in other comparison videos too. So I discarded Upscayl from my mind, and was feeling Pixelcut all the way. Then you redeemed Upscayl in the end, making it a great teaching moment. I’m going to use both, depending on the device I am on. And THANK YOU for showing a comparison with Photoshop. I was really curious why no one was using editing tools like Photoshop or Affinity Photo to upscale. You are the first one I’ve seen include this. Thank you! Love your “straight to the meat” teaching style.
Instead of waiting 140minutes, i just use Replicate to upscale. Its amazing. It is using the exact same upscaler as dgb, but with wait time of 3 seconds (in my experience at least). Same product, but better experience, limits were so big, that i dont think about them. Upscayl and Replicate win it for me. No doubt. At least for free versions
Would be interesting to see if these upscalers can improve Photoshop's Generative Fill, seeing as the generated content is quite low-res. Thanks for the heads up on these upscalers, Unmesh!
Generative fill is still maxed out on 1024x1024 tiles. So you have to make those fills tile for tile to achieve best quality. And often it's an scaling issue, sometimes scaling an image down to its best detail or sharpness point, can archive better outputs.
i wouldn't be as charismatic as you if i tried my whole life like how do you even do it, are you a wizard? you're so charismatic your smile is so warm how do you do this
Amazing content as always! Long time watcher, and now a first time subscriber / commenter. Keep up the incredible work. I have learnt a lot over the past few years. Thank you!
Congratulations for your incredible skills both in Photoshop and as a teacher. I've not seen any other channel that reached the level of yours. I don't watch series anymore; I'm watching your videos instead!
Happy New Year! I've been using Upscayle for a while. Although it's great, it does tend to smoothen certain areas out and increase the contrast for a perceived increase in quality. Overlaying it with the original image can help a bit. For free, Upscayle is by far the best. Most computers up to 3 years old will do it with no problem. Thanks as always. 👍
Great video! There is another tool called Chainner that's designed for batch compositing with nodes, and allows to do the same upscale things as Upscayl with whatever model you download from hugging face :3 and it's free and open source !
Does anyone have any thoughts on what the best Upscayl settings are for converting very low quality/resolution pictures? I tried Ultrasharp and it made my photo look a bit like a cartoon haha
Not too keen on Upscayl. Standard setting proved skin tones were smoothed too much but ultramix balanced proved better but the colour then needed rebalancing as it was cooler than the original. I suppose its effectiveness will be different depending on the subject matter. Thank you for your invaluable videos though... they are appreciated.
Thank you Unmesh for all your contents that you are creating! I liked the comparison but I wish you would include Topaz Gigapixel to this comparison too 🙏🤘
I ' ve done that and Topaz is so much better. I used it on old black and white photo which was in a very low resolution. Topaz was more accurate and you still have the option of face recovering (which is adjustable). After the comparison I uninstalled upscayl since I won't use it when I have the option of Topaz.
Hey I've found this video accidentally :) Dgb lol admin here. You made me smile with that queue joke - it always depends how large are the images in front of you in the queue - how hungry are the other customers.. :) I am doing my best to lower the queue, but there are quotas for new hardware from the Google side. I guess the other platforms are using the free, or very cheap hardware, I am getting them for the full price for them. I have few own-trained AI models as well for different purposes. And yeah the best platforms are using the Real-ESRGAN for upscaling. The tiny difference is either in the parameters , or how well trained is the model. Thanks for the video, good to know that my project is still usable for the no-rush people :)
My verdict of Upscayl: the "Digital Art" model is very impressive for digital art. The default model is good at increasing the resolution of old pictures, but doesn't seem to further increase that of modern high res pictures. All other models don't seem to do anything noticeable.
Great vid. Thank you. I have been using Upscayl but when I batch 300 dpi files it knocks it down to 72 dpi. Need them to be 300 dpi. What am I missing?
I was typing exactly the same and right before submitting it i saw your comment. this is exactly what i am wondering, because i get very decent results with gigapixel. also have photo ai, but most of the time i need the upscaler and with gigapixel i am more comfortable and like the outcome. Schau ma mal 😂👍🏼
Hey Unmesh - THANK YOU!! I had a low res photo (video capture) of a friend that has passed that I wanted to upsize and print for the family. I had tried GIMP, but it was still blurry. Upscayl was awesome! I tried several options, but the 4x ultrasharp worked best for me. I've had an 8x10 printed and framed and will give it to the family.
I have downloaded Upscayl and I must say I'm impressed. human faces (especially the eyes) are not great, but it is much better than Photoshop in upscaling.

i think you are mistaking Upscayl for DGB
DGB had the queue not Upscayl
@@ali_new_world They mean the line artifact in the images, not the queue line.
I know you love he just gets straight to giving you the meat.
I downloaded the upscayl on windows but it’s not working
People don't say "straight to the meat". 😆 That's not a thing. At least not a thing in this context. Let's just pretend this didn't happen. 🤫
