That drinking/pub flashback is comedy genius. So many jokes crammed into such a short space of time but yet each one given the space to breathe and every single one lands so well. Even the slight call back to the old lady/manny leaving. Dylan Moran's timing and physical comedy side of the role is flawless.
I love Black Books. Yes, as the series progresses, it finds its feet more. In a way, its structured like Father Ted. Also, the guy who loved books so much who then went to the bakery, that's Graham Linehan, the guy who created the show and Father ted too, and IT Crowd.
Yes! So happy you're doing more Black Books, I love Bill Bailey! Also on a different note, you should check out 'Teachers', I think you'd really enjoy it.
"I'm Alan Partridge" is another good sitcom. You could do a few "Knowing Me, Knowing You" with Alan Partridge too (which aired prior). Keep watching Black Books too though :)
5:28 you can see a gentleman drinking at the bar that looks suspiciously like Bill Nighy of Love Actually, Underworld, Shaun of the Dead & Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man's chest fame.
You've seen the set-up for the series, one of my favourite series ever! It would be a terrible shame not to watch another with the usual series dynamic in place. The next episode is really the first really great episode and it is joined in that by most of the other episodes. It's also one of the finest ever shows to watch while drunk. Cheers!
So when the original LOTR film was announced, a lot of us in the Uk were very disappointed that Bill Bailey (Manny) wasn’t given the role of Bilbo Baggins. It had been his unofficial nickname since he came on the scene years ago.
Black Books is awesome, it gets funnier and funnier as it progresses, there are a few stand out episodes like the one where Bernard takes a job in a burger bar, the one where they write a childrens book together and the one when they are house sitting.
Your reaction to Frans assault at the end was priceless! This show gets better and better. Thanks for the vid. Keep it up. And please do more black books
One of the lesser episodes in my opinion, but still watchable. When you look at this show now its amazing how many soon to be famous actors and comedians had walk on parts. In future episodes look out for Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, David Walliams, Omid Djallili, Nina Conti, Lucy Davis, Rob Brydon, Johnny Vegas, Ricky Grover, Peter Serafinowicz, Martin Freeman.
wow, that was a long time ago. but if he does watch it he may find it familiar as the americans have already remade it, as they do with a lot of british comedies, it's just called reggie.
How it progresses is burnard and manny have a sort of overprotective father son relationship, there isn’t really an overarching storyline so you cna watch any episode, I like the one where they make wine
The guy looking to buy a book and going to the Bakery is Graham linahan creator of father ted IT Crowd and he only worked on the first series of black books
If you have wondered who the guy who looks like a balding troll is, that's Bill Bailey and you'll be surprised to find these days that he actually looks like...... a balding troll but a bit older. He's hilarious, and funnily enough even though this is probably the first thing I had seen him in, I forgot how much of a straight man he was in this, as in acomedy straight man, compared to Dylan Moran aka Bernard Black. It's weird since he always plays the quirky character usually.
To sad no one reacted to the funniest british shows of all time, Red Dwarf (a really funny scifi series running from 1988 until today), Coupling (Just like friends but with adult humor and set in a real proper pub with the funniest character ever, Jeff) and Bottom (with Adrian Edmonson and Ric Mayall, need I say more)...
Hi Noah, I really hope you manage to continue even if it`s only bi-monthly. The interactions between the new trio that has formed are interesting. Everyone involved make`s it well worthwhile to watch. That student @ 17.32, was copying Dom Joly from Trigger Happy tv which had started a few months earlier. Ch 4 with a great in-program self-promotion.
This show is really hit or miss for me. None of it is terrible, but some episodes are hilarious and others just don't quite hit the mark, like this one.
Taffe, my apologies but please can you break down what you say in your introduction at the start of each video you do. It sounds cool but you speak so quickly I've never been able to catch what you're saying clear enough haha. Keep up the good reviews man.
The next two episodes, in my opinion, are the finest in the whole series. I felt the show overall gradually declined across the three series, though it was always far from unfunny.
Awful series, even makes Bill Bailey unfunny, there's something about superimposing that american frazier/sienfield type comedy pace/feel over an english show that just jarrs, each to their own tho, if you like it fair play, I was just too spoilt by the quality of tv comedy in the 70s and 80s I guess
this is a seriously underrated and under watched show and there is only 18 episodes in total you must watch them all!!!!
I like the hen do one the best, or the gambling episode. I want him to watch some Alan Partridge.
jack28aug this
I see a few when it was on,
but
as it mirrored my life...
@Dominick Hassan dear god can you A holes stop with the fake comments advertising you scams we all know its a scam by now!!!!!
Don't mind watching black books again. It's a rediculously enjoyable show.
That drinking/pub flashback is comedy genius. So many jokes crammed into such a short space of time but yet each one given the space to breathe and every single one lands so well. Even the slight call back to the old lady/manny leaving. Dylan Moran's timing and physical comedy side of the role is flawless.
The guy that wore the "I love books" shirt was Graham Linehan. He is known to pop up in series/sitcoms that he wrote
"Fuckin hell"
He likes to pull a Hitchcock
@@Ian_Livesey lmaooo, I remember that
The guy trying to buy a book is Graham Linehan one of the writers of this, The IT Crowd and Father Ted
So glad you’re watching this. One of my favourite comedies of all time 😊
I love Black Books. Yes, as the series progresses, it finds its feet more. In a way, its structured like Father Ted. Also, the guy who loved books so much who then went to the bakery, that's Graham Linehan, the guy who created the show and Father ted too, and IT Crowd.
7:39 Thats Graham Linehan he created or co-created the sitcoms Father Ted, Black Books and The IT Crowd
The bearded customer with the "I Love Books" t-shirt, was one of the writers
"The pay's not great but the work is hard" one of my favourite lines in anything, hehe :D
Yes! So happy you're doing more Black Books, I love Bill Bailey!
Also on a different note, you should check out 'Teachers', I think you'd really enjoy it.
I love teachers, especially the series 2 finale at the Xmas party.
Black books is amazing! You'll laugh, you'll cry....it'll change your life!
The guy who comes in who really wants to buy a book is Graham Linehan, the writer
He co-wrote this, and the other episodes of series one, with Dylan Moran.
And father ted
@@stevemcmosh4271 And he wrote The IT Crowd too, even appeared in the latest episode Noah saw as the mariachi singer at the restaurant
@@stevemcmosh4271 and Count Arthur Strong ( but the radio show is far superior)
The guy who showed up at 7:50 is graham linehan, the guy who wrote black books, father ted and the IT crowd.
"I'm Alan Partridge" is another good sitcom. You could do a few "Knowing Me, Knowing You" with Alan Partridge too (which aired prior).
Keep watching Black Books too though :)
i have asked for that at least ten times :-)
That is the writer who comes in at the beginning to buy a book . He also appears on the plane in 'Flight into Terror' Fr Ted 's last episode.
If you looking for some good British humour check out "The Thick Of It" - amazing stuff!
I second the request for "The Thick Of It".
Better watch The Thick of It before Malcolm Tucker starts to get jealous!
Grapes of wrath is my all time favourite
The guy in the I LOVE BOOKS T-Shirt is Graham Linehan - who WROTE FATHER TED !
One of my favourite British sitcoms of the last few decades, you won't find much better!
5:28 you can see a gentleman drinking at the bar that looks suspiciously like Bill Nighy of Love Actually, Underworld, Shaun of the Dead & Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man's chest fame.

Keep going with it, as you deduced this just sets up for the rest of the episodes
I'll bet you 100 Phrenobian wooden dollars that you'll become a fan if you stick with this show!
Edit: I spelled "Phrenobian" incorrectly.
So when the original LOTR film was announced, a lot of us in the Uk were very disappointed that Bill Bailey (Manny) wasn’t given the role of Bilbo Baggins. It had been his unofficial nickname since he came on the scene years ago.
I feel like the guy on the phone shoring was a reference to trigger happy tv, it’s a public prank show
Great reaction. I really hope this becomes a monthly series too. There's only 3 series' so I'm sure it could be done. :)
17:30 is a reference to an old prank show called Trigger Happy TV
Black Books is awesome, it gets funnier and funnier as it progresses, there are a few stand out episodes like the one where Bernard takes a job in a burger bar, the one where they write a childrens book together and the one when they are house sitting.
Your reaction to Frans assault at the end was priceless! This show gets better and better. Thanks for the vid. Keep it up. And please do more black books
As someone who does and has worked in retail I can testify that I am exactly like Bernard Black with customers
22:15 "Wait here, Manny. Mommy's got to go have a little talk with Bernard..."
One of the lesser episodes in my opinion, but still watchable. When you look at this show now its amazing how many soon to be famous actors and comedians had walk on parts. Bill Bailey trained as a concert pianist
Next one's my fave.
The next episode of this is probably the best thing of anything ever! (with the possible exception of the series 1 finale of Green Wing)
I love how awkward he is and he fits the role so well.
The next episode - Grapes of Wrath is brilliant.
i suggest you have a look at the fall and rise of reginald perrin for an idea of what british comedy was like in its prime
wow, that was a long time ago. but if he does watch it he may find it familiar as the americans have already remade it, as they do with a lot of british comedies, it's just called reggie.
Yeh you are right this is a plot development episode
How it progresses is burnard and manny have a sort of overprotective father son relationship, there isn’t really an overarching storyline so you cna watch any episode, I like the one where they make wine
Fun fact - the guy who "loves books" is the director.
'The Entertainer' imo, is the BEST of all Episodes.
The guy looking to buy a book and going to the Bakery is Graham linahan creator of father ted IT Crowd and he only worked on the first series of black books
By the by, he was wearing the clothes to take to Oxfam so he didn't have to carry them there 🤣
The'i love books' guy is Graham lineham writer/creator of this and father Ted!!!
I’d recommend Grapes of the wrath as an episode to watch, it’s hilarious! But equally watching them all in order is fine as they are all brilliant
Please keep watching, at least episode 3. It's one of the best.
Forgot how much I love this show.
Dylan plays shit faced wasted so well 🍺🍺🍺🍺
I've seen him around Edinburgh, and looking much the same.
@@fibrown444 He has been teetotal for a few years now. Quit smoking even longer.
Graham lenihan as customer number 1
Don't you just hate it when Graham Linehan shows up at your shop at 10:30 demanding books?
yeah, it's so annoying when that happens
If you have wondered who the guy who looks like a balding troll is, that's Bill Bailey and you'll be surprised to find these days that he actually looks like...... a balding troll but a bit older.

Top notch, hope you can continue reacting for more episode, it's a great series
Hi taffe, any chance you could watch some vintage episodes of Shooting Stars?
17:35 Holy shit, thats the dude from Sirens. Another hugely underrated channel 4 'comedy', still pissed it only got the 1 series
Try watching Coupleling, it's kind of like the uk version of friends except way more funny
This was great I definitely would like to see more.
Strangely enough Bill Bailey was up for the part of Gimli the Dwarf in the Lord of the Rings films.
You HAVE to watch the 3rd episode of Black Books. It’s by FAR the funniest.
I saw someone else suggest it so I second The thick of it. Peak British comedy
Tamsin Greig is a great comedy, straight and Shakespearean actress.
I've not watched this in ages, I forgot how funny it is!
I was there and Fran was there and so were our friends, the genitals.
THAT BLOKE THAT CAME IN THE SHOP WROTE all the father teds btw
Omg
@@Nietzsche_K_Gote He always turns up in his shows. He has cameos in Father Ted and the IT Crowd
To clarify, it was the "I love books" guy. Not the shouty guy.
As Irish I relate to Bernard so much lol 🤣
I enjoyed that..Now..what about episode 2 of Green Wing?
Thank you for posting this and the first episode, I have laughed out loud so much
To sad no one reacted to the funniest british shows of all time, Red Dwarf (a really funny scifi series running from 1988 until today), Coupling (Just like friends but with adult humor and set in a real proper pub with the funniest character ever, Jeff) and Bottom (with Adrian Edmonson and Ric Mayall, need I say more)...
Black Books is awesome, especially the first series
Half ten?! I've never been up that early!
what happens?
Have you ever bought a book at half ten in the morning?
To not do any more Black Books would be a bad decision. We don't want another David Letterman/Bill Hicks situation.
Yup definitely do more!
Black books is enjoyable to watch and Bill Bailey is very good.
More Black Books!

Graham Linehan 😂😂
you didnt recognise the "i love books" guy, hes been in several father ted episodes, and actually co. wrote both shows
Was that Rory from doctor who (rip from legend of tommorow)??
Are you ever going to continue this series? Looks like you've only done a few episodes.
Brilliant show, you have to watch it all the way. Hilarious!
Yes! Another! I'm so happy!
love it, hope you do more x
You need to react to Blackadder, you'd really appreciate that
I've done a couple episodes over on Dailymotion.
Love black books
This show is really hit or miss for me. None of it is terrible, but some episodes are hilarious and others just don't quite hit the mark, like this one.
yeah I think the same really. I know it has this cult following but i prefer their other comedies like father ted, big train, it crowd...
try bluestone 42
Taffe, my apologies but please can you break down what you say in your introduction at the start of each video you do. It sounds cool but you speak so quickly I've never been able to catch what you're saying clear enough haha. Keep up the good reviews man.
The intro is "Hola mis amigos (Spanish for Hello my friends) and possible Amigas (Spanish for female friends) my name is taffe316".
Thanks Taffe!
The next two episodes, in my opinion, are the finest in the whole series. I felt the show overall gradually declined across the three series, though it was always far from unfunny.
💎❤️⚫️📚📺
Has it's funny moments but I could never get into black books...I do know though that episode 3 is arguably the best of the series.
Stop talking goo!
@Danny Dorko
Are you going to clean my cups 😝😝
react to friday night dinner please
Awful series, even makes Bill Bailey unfunny, there's something about superimposing that american frazier/sienfield type comedy pace/feel over an english show that just jarrs, each to their own tho, if you like it fair play, I was just too spoilt by the quality of tv comedy in the 70s and 80s I guess
Awful?
I must admit, I don't see this as an American-style comedy; it seems too off-beat for a start.
it's an irish-english sitcom, not american
