      Changing the price of work will often make customers cancel and/rethink of rehiring you. Remember customers have to save to pay for work and its a difficult economy. Work can normally lead to other jobs so guess it depends on what your goal is for the work.

    • @justinwalker713
      @justinwalker713 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If the plasterer has fitted the door opens and they're not the right size then that's nothing to do with you. I give out estimates not quotes, so if anything unforeseen pops up before or whilst doing the job I can adjust the price accordingly, obviously getting the go ahead from the customer first. Sometimes with jobs like the one you've done its best not to become a busy fool. Great work anyway!

      I’ve done similar things in the past to make customers happy ! I now realise that we earn our money when pricing up the work , it looks like it all needed ripping out and starting again . Because the plasterer was so good at frames you should told him to hang the doors as well🤬😑
      I’m sure you’ll lean from this

    Just to help you out if your van is the Ford transit custom with a wetbelt it’s likely that the wetbelt has caused the problem with the breaks! Basically the bits of rubber go into the oil sump and then when the vacuum pump picks the oil up it then gets blocked with rubber bits and snaps. if you go to a garage and they say that just needs changing I’d recommend getting in touch with Ford cause your brakes will fail again within about 60 - 200 miles! And if your lucky you’ll get the lot fixed for free I had this issue Ford know it’s a bad design. Hope this helps

    Lesson learnt, due diligence, Pricing off pics/ Vids sometimes the only option if your flat out working ( driving to a estimate after a long day Grafting you can't be bothered 😉) Running your own business, do you price in the running of your van over head's example road tax, insurance, average diesel milage cost, servicing van/MOT, insurance and the big 1 Van replacement @ end of service life, Great videos, ❤ the detailed description/ process of your work, as you grow your business/ Reputation, you will able to charge more for Service's, People who view your Channel can see your a Honest Grafter 🖖

    Bro sounds like your wet belt (timing belt that runs through oil) is breaking up, this causes brake failure as it contaminates the vacuum pump, this fault is likely to come back and or cause total engine failure, just a thought 👍

    You did well considering a plasterer fitted the linings, personally I wouldn’t of taken the job unless I fitted the frames myself! I’d up the price for hanging oak doors to considering how heavy they are and awkward to fit on your own! What a bummer with the van breaking down hopefully that’ll be it for van maintenance now for a while then 🙏🏻

All the extra work will add at least an extra day to the job but can’t charge anymore, and my professional pride won’t leave them looking unfinished, so will be taking on the chin too. Ohh and I recently got hit with a bill for a new turbo in my van, so I know the pain you are going through.

    Doors can be a real pain sometimes. I learned years ago to charge for the problems I can't see. Here in the States, CA. I charge labor only, $350.00 interior slab doors, scribe, fit, and install hardware. Exterior slab, scribe fit, $750.00, hardware is extra. Exterior prehung, R&R, $1200.00 to $1500.00. In this business since '79. Very nice work you did there. Yes, my 2007 Ford F150 work truck has its issues as well.

    Firstly why wouldn't you use a proper marking guage for the hinges if you're cutting them out by hand?
    A Stanley knife isn't for marking hinges out, not when i was at college anyway.
    Surely chop your hinges in the frame first, offer the door in and then transfer your hinges onto the door?
    By a transporter.
    Just my opinion

Ive some doors to door soon where the heads are 20mm out of level! Side by side as well so they are going to have to be the same. Cutting the doors to that is a none starter so no other option than take off arcs and adjust frame while door is swinging. Going to be a tough one. Oh and the legs are bowed as well! Not good
