Finally it is here! The Don Carlo contest! Everyone was asking for this one, and it a fun one to put together. There are a lot of basses here! So take your time and give them all a chance. Sam Ramey sounded like a teenager next to this amazing, true basso profondo!! He and Chaliapin were the very best there was and will always be! And Siepi had a huge voice but, still, he managed to always show its beauty as well. Many singers today by trying to sound loud, actually sound sharp often and soon develop a wobble that makes their voices sound very ugly. It's sad.

@@ИванКомолых-с3ъ I'd think of him more as a basso cantante. He has very strong high notes, in addition to his great lows. If you listen to the inquisitor duet where he sings with Jerome Hines, you'll see a clear difference between the voice types.

Im not sure if you only included performances sung in italian, but if not you really have to add Gottlob Fricks performance of this Aria, even though sung in german. It is to my taste one of the best versions out there
