    What an adventure! I'll watch this again for sure. I live on the Driftless in SW Wisconsin, and there are supposed to be abandoned copper mines in the region I've researched. A friend and I were checking out some quartz we had bought at a local store while having a drink, and one of the locals told me they used to see crystals all over the place when they were mining, but they didn't know anyone that would be interested back in the day. Guess I got a look at what they might have seen.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was so interesting in there. I also saw off camera what I thought was fluorite but it didn't glow under UV. Turns out it was cubic calcite.

    Daisy says, nope, not going in there dad, shelby thinks, daisy won't go in there so I am certainly not going in.
    Interesting mine shaft, there are brackets so you can hang people by the wrists and lots of jasper, I see the good bits have been robbed out, every vug was empty, what are those robbers called, nasty little vuggers.
    Hang on, that was not just spooky it was clever, a pair of legs in the distance, spooky.

    when you reach a section of the tunnel where there is a bunch of fallen rock but the walls are pretty clean of loose material, does that mean the rock is pressurized and just waiting for any impact to explosively trigger additional rockfall?
    @6:41 - 6:53 you show an area where it seems the rock exploded out.
    It seems like the areas with splintered but not snapped-off timbers would also show the same pressure.
    Is this mine running thru old black smokers?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  ปีที่แล้ว

      That rock was crush from either an ore cart tip or more likely somebody chipped rocks off the wall and his was their discards. In other places in the video, some of the roof had collapsed as there is another level about 20' above the ceiling or an old ore shoot from there let go. What is a black smoker?

      @@meMiner th-cam.com/video/xywO4j7k2g8/w-d-xo.html
      Those areas of newly formed ocean floor where the lava is pretty close to the surface and there are all these little chimney volcanoes firing straight up into the water. The seawater rushes into cracks in the ground and is flash vaporized by the heat. All the minerals boiled out of deeper rocks and the metals dissolved in the 700 -1200 F water quickly precipitate out from the cold shock of hitting 29F salty water and form cylinders of crust hundreds feet high; sulfides and oxides formed in seawater are usually black and these volcanoes are blowing out huge volumes of coal black ash that accumulate into underwater mountains. They are pure ore of every mineral in the planet, all equally mixed but once they move ashore and start regular erosion with the sulfides eating their way down thru the ore then you get mineralization and stuff like agates and jasper or crystals and metallic pseudomorphs. They are volcanoes but there's no lava and there can still be sedimentary rock building on top of the smokers, like normal.

    meMiner I used gloves .... after i etched some rocks with muriatic acid then washed them down with water took off gloves and handled the rocks to see results is it safe to handle the rocks after being washed with water

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am assuming you used rubber gloves? But to answer your question, once you dilute the acid by washing the rock with lots of water, you won't likely get a burn. Still, wash up afterwards before you touch sensitive skin. That is always a good idea after touching any rock, because sometimes they have minerals that you don't want to ingest.
