in answer to 'does anyone know what the black sand is, of cause it is volcanic gravel. The thing is that now if you are trying to create an Urban Garden then you usually have Grass. But I suppose if you have Cactus then you got to put something around the base to stop the weeds. Originally Tenerife had the worst reputation for black Volcanic aggregates, but Urbanization has meant that even in the south of Tenerife, there is more Grass and greenness than ever before. The Canarian Government, never the less,, are compelled to demonstrate the true condition of aggregates in a traditional way. Although there has always been Grass. I would say forget it and lets go for Grassy parks just like they have Grassy Golf Courses
