She didn’t learn pole dancing for egotistic mv. Solar hurted her back in 2017 and doctor recommended pole dancing for physical therapy. She fell in love with it and incorporated in her performance.

If what you want is sexy then I suggest the Decalcomanie mv or the live performance of Words don't come easy, both super sexy and the lyrics of both songs also have their own thing. And yes, this is the video through which Solar found his love for pole dancing. And I forgot, there is also the Moonbyul Shutdown song, in this case it is not that the video itself is sexy but when you see it with the subtitles it is hot as hell, of course this song is also a representation of love between two women and a no small detail is that Moonbyul wrote it and also said that there was an even stronger version but that she decided on this one because she did not want to be restricted.

Can you believe they were told they weren't attractive enough? They said, hell with that, and became complete performers, who happen to be completely beautiful. No other group in kpop perform with live mics like they do. I saw them on their US tour and they were unbelievably great.

After you get past the visual and auditory overload in Egotistic it's worth pondering what's really going on in the MV because it's a perfect example of Mamamoo's video style. The first thing to mention is that Egotistic is title track #2 in Mamamoo's four album 4 Season 4 Color series. Each 4S4C album has a theme season & color and each title track is about a stage of love in a four part cycle. As you can probably guess Egotistic is the Summer/Red/Passion song so all the sexiness in the MV (mostly by Solar & Hwasa) is an expression of the theme rather than being gratuitous. In many MMM MVs the members express their own take on the song's emotional theme in solo scenes during the verses and at they end they gather together (they're also together for the dance scenes in the choruses). This is especially true in the 4 Season 4 Color MVs so in Egotistic we see each member's take on Red/Passion in the context of a "hit the road, Jack" breakup song as expressed through their actions, wardrobe and props. I think they add another layer by presenting four stages in leaving an egotistic jerk of a lover:
Anger: Moonbyul tosses chair. Red/Passion = strong, independent, confident. Speaks down to him from the balcony.
Defiance: Hwasa stares down the jaguar. Red/Passion = wild, fierce, uninhibited. The jaguar and the jungle bathtub.
Revenge: Wheein burns his guitar in effigy. Red/Passion = hot-tempered, impulsive, vindictive. Tats, badass bitch on wheels.
Liberation: Solar flies on the pole. Red/Passion = sensual, sexy, provocative. Legs, pole, come hither looks into the camera.
Moonbyul's tear at the beginning starts a clever sequence that depicts the genesis of the song imo. It helps to know that Egotistic is on the Red Moon album. The tear represents their passionate emotions about the toxic relationship. Then we see the Red Moon logo in her mind's eye accompanied by the flamenco guitar, representing the transformation of those feelings into art from the same emotional source as the passion and duende of flamenco music. If we didn't get it the first time this artistic process is seen again when the logo is transformed into a necklace. Then we get the song itself with its mix of reggaeton and latin pop blended with extra spices like the Middle Eastern or Indian hand drum samples in the short bridge when they're walking down the hallway and the wailing rock guitar at the end, the kind of genre mashup kpop does so well. The MV has all sorts or references to the Spanish diaspora on its way to Korea such as the Latin American big cat, the sun drenched hacienda set, the matador or mariachi inspired outfits worn by Moonbyul & Wheein, and the car that looks like it belongs in Havana or East LA.
Egotistic is one of my favorite Mamamoo songs and the MV is an archetypal example of how they infuse extra levels of meaning in a deceptively simple video.

@@alongfortheridereacts YW. I think many people don't get past the sexiness in Egotistic and since this is your first serious song I thought I'd clue you in to the kind of thing they do in their MVs.
Here's another interesting tidbit about Egotistic. Just for kicks I looked into the jaguar in Aztec mythology and found a goddess named Tlazolteotl whose spirit animal is the jaguar. Is it just a coincidence that she's a quadripartite figure made up of four sisters and she's the goddess of lust, carnality and sexual misconduct? Gotta love a culture that has such a goddess, btw. lol
Egotistic really is one of their spicier tracks lol "Aya" is like the older sister to this so... have that to look forward too lol Korean beauty standards are always baffling, especially with idols. Also we are in an age where debuting at 20-23 is "too old". crazy.

as someone who has been in the fandom for over five years now, it's so fun to see your reactions! mamamoo are definitely a whole package, there's never a dull moment with them, whether they're performing or not! really like that one of you is already a moonbyul stan, she's my bias too!
also, if you liked this song and genre, i have another group i'd like to recommend! you should check out kard, if you want, they're one of the very few coed groups in kpop. their music is very latin-inspired and they've broken standards by being coed (of course) and doing choreos and styles of music that other groups usually don't. they recently signed in with mamamoo's company RBW, and they've been gaining a little more popularity with their recent release called Icky. the members of kard are also crackheads offstage, just like mamamoo, so that's something to look out for too!

Fun fact: Solar only learnt pole dancing for an hour just before this mv but she got a lot of backlash for it so she then decided to learn it seriously as a hobby & became the first idol to ever pole dance at an award show!
Also you may be interested in Mamamoo’s female empowerment songs: Most of their songs have a hint of being strong & self confident like in egotistic but they really did so much for women (& men! But esp poignant for women, & esp considering Korean beauty standards) when they wrote (yes. they wrote these next songs, they write & produce a lot of their own work actually) Yes I am & Hip. Very much recommend checking them out! Also wind flower is a very very big fan favourite in the moomoo community.

Casting another vote for Dingo Killing Voice. It'll give you a nice sample of songs and a taste of which MVs to shoot for watching next. Some people don't like being "spoiled" before watching/listening to the entire track, but I honestly think that the Killing Voice samples really just give you enough of a taste to give you some direction on which songs you'd be most interested in checking out next. It's also all live and greatly showcases both their singing talent and their group chemistry with each other.

Great song but... interesting MV and done for an advertisement for the game Icarus. Otherwise another full song for an advert for LG you can check out is Woohoo.

I have an idea but since I am from the U.S. and have only a limited amount of information and little context, I am going to need some help from Korean fans in order to make it a legit thing. I will gather a few instances of Korean ladies so you can see people who reportedly do fit the Korean Beauty Standard the best. I know of a few but not all of the 'Visuals' of all of the girl groups so I need Koreans to back me up and provide pictures of other 'Visuals' of other groups.
But then you two would have to contrast those pictures with Moonbyul, Hwasa and to a lesser extent, Solar. EVERYBODY seems to agree in thinking that Wheein is CUTE so I am 'mostly certain' that she actually is the closest to the KBS as far as members of Mamamoo.
DreamCatcher is my Ult Girl Group; their oldest member and Leader, JiU, is called the 'Visual' of the group. JiU was voted Best-Looking Female Idol by two different Korean news agencies in two different years; that was a big deal since DreamCatcher are seen as the 'Black Sheep' of K-Pop and have been largely ignored in the past, simply because they are so solidly into the Rock sound (and occasionally Metal), which Koreans normally just are not into. Having her be NOTICED like that was actually HUGE. It can be argued that others in the group also fit 'near' to the KBS. I think the youngest member, Gahyeon, is pretty close, especially after she got rid of her baby fat. But apparently members Yoohyeon and Dami are seen as fitting the Korean Beauty Standard the least (although from my Western POV, both are BEAUTIFUL).
Red Velvet's oldest member and Leader, Irene, is called their 'Visual' and apparently their youngest member, Yeri, also fits the KBS (but I also think Joy fit the KBS after she got rid of her baby fat). The other two members, Seulgi and Wendy, apparently are not seen as 'pretty' by Koreans (I think they are both GORGEOUS. Wendy is actually my Ult Bias in all of K-Pop, even as much as I love all of the members of DC and all of the members of RV...).
(G)I-DLE's Taiwanese member and the youngest in the group, Shuhua, is called a 'Visual'; she fits the KBS even though it is largely racist against foreigners. But then, group Leader, Soyeon (who is in fact Korean), was called 'ugly' by many Koreans when she was seventeen years old. Of course now, she has grown up and I see her as GORGEOUS.
BLACKPINK's oldest member, Jisoo, is the 'Visual' of the group. EVERYBODY the entire world over seems to agree with that, she is a true stunner. One fan told a story after having met Jisoo face-to-face; he said that he was absolutely breathless and could barely speak, she was so gorgeous. 'Breath-taking'.
Those four ladies are just off the top of my head and obviously there are FAR MORE people who are called 'Visuals' than those listed here because there are so many groups.
If you go into Google and look up Images of these ladies I have mentioned as 'Visuals' and contrast those images with other people in those same groups who are NOT called 'Visuals', you will start to get an idea of just how very narrow the 'Korean Beauty Standard' is.
Sorry about handing you some 'homework' because I do realize that you two are busy. :)
Thank you. I think 'narrow' is definitely correct. All we can say is that we believe beauty isn't that easy to define and that people should never be treated the way a lot of these women are treated.

In any case, it is an impossibly small box to be in and stay in for any amount of time. 90% of the Korean population does not even fit that 'standard' to begin with. Calling it any sort of 'standard' would be laughable if it was not outright killing some people and causing irreparable damage to others (mentally, emotionally and physically). I think it really is just a few guys' wet dreams of what 'perfection' looks like to them, and since they are wealthy men, what they say goes. They are now old wrinkly heartless uncaring bastards all fighting to stay at the top of the Entertainment Industry in Korea so their extremely harmful fetish has brainwashed the masses.
Sometimes the 'Korean Beauty Standard' too closely resembles the 'Chinese Thinspo' trend. SCRAWNY, SKELETAL models who are so weak in muscle that they could not carry their own lunch trays starve themselves to death just so they can get (what they think are) pretty pictures and brand deals. The 'KBS' is not QUITE so bad as the Chinese have it but it still kills people.

Korean beauty standards are very different than what you would think from the West.
Their standards are very very specific. You have to be translucently white, a V shaped face, underweight skinny (think teenager). No freckles or moles...preferably double eyelids and full lips.
Funny thing...I almost always gravitate to the ones that DON'T fit their standards.
Yeah, I think we're going to continually have trouble with this. I can almost (but not quite) get on board with the idea that you can define a type of beauty like this, but I definitely can't understand why not having THAT kind of beauty means that you're not beautiful. I think the more we understand about it the less we're going to be OK with it
My apologies for putting this under Mamamoo video as it isn't my intent to take focus away from them. Just wanted to comment under most recent video since ur more likely to see. Please react to BabyMonster soon because they debut in November and there is already massive anticipation for them, so much anticipation that their pre-debut videos are getting 11 million to 32 million views. It would be fun if they can be your very first group that you are "along for the ride" for their entire journey from before debut since all the other groups you react to you are only getting a chance to know them in catch-up mode years after.
The reason for the hype around them is that, there's no weak link at all in their vocalists and they are the first girl group to come out of YG Entertainment since Blackpink 7 years ago. To see what I mean about their vocals, I recommend starting with their solo live performances that range from when the youngest member was still 13 and the oldest member was 20.
