Body condition scoring (BCS) is a tool that helps determine the energy balance and reserves of livestock. The scale used to score cattle is 1-5, with 1 being extremely thin and 5 being extremely fat.
BCS scores for dairy cattle:
Dry off and calving: 3.0-3.25
Peak lactation: 2.25-2.75
