The Herengracht is one of the four main canals in Amsterdam and is located in the so called canal belt of Amsterdam. The Herengracht is known for its large and beautiful canal houses. In the past, many of the canal houses were inhabited by regents, mayors and traders who earned fortunes with trading. These days the canal houses are homes, student homes, businesses, restaurants, galleries, and museums.
