Just the fact that there are at least three women around at the moment that can run faster than the record set by Tirunesh is ridiculous. The fact that they can run so much faster is mind blowing. I know, better trainers, faster tracks, etc. it's still incredible.
Yeah and all 3 - Tsegay, Gidey, Kipyegon - are still in the right age band and can compete with each other. And if motivated enough I feel sure that a certain Hassan can also get very close to these women too! (At the very least she could be the best pacer in history in a WR attempt, if she focuses on longer stuff now)
@@barath4545 Yeah, Sifan is amazing, the problem is that she is so amazing she doesn't know what to do with it all. If she was more focused on a certain range, she would possibly beat everyone, but that's just not who she is. She just loves competing and doesn't seem as bothered about records, etc.

Just a small correction on Defar’s glittering list of records. She is one of two women in history who have broken 9 minutes in the 2 mile. The other was Francine Niyonsaba who ran 8:59.08 at the PreClassic. I had the privilege of witnessing this in person, a great performance.

@@denisa.4198 hence why I said the "perfect" set up RACE. I doubt these 2 athletes would just pace for Kipyegon (unless the money was too good to pass up), but if world class pacemakers took it to 3k then these 3 raced, with Gidey and Tsegay going flat out in the last 2k to drop Kipyegon, but failing, I think Kipyegon's last 500 could give her that time. But all 3 are capable of it, so could be the ideal RACE for any of the 3.
2:00:35 is a 14:17 5k pace and a 28:35 10k pace. The women's 5k WR is 14:00 and change by Tsegay, the woman's 10k WR is 29:01 and change by Gidey. So, Kiptum is doing marathons faster than the women's 10k WR pace, slower than the 5k WR pace.

What I think is the best world record to fall in 2023 is the 3000 meter indoor record being tied considering the previous guy Hokam El Guruge who set the record was on PED drugs more than just the gray area of the rules just that EPO can be stopped a week or two before the event and not test positive at the event, runners like this are why now we have outside of competition testing for high ranking athletes in track and field.
