Matt tears up recalling the 'ups and downs' of filming the show with his family, and reflects on the 'sacrifices' they all made by putting their personal lives on camera. Plus, Matt reacts to the blossoming friendship between his ex-wife, Amy, and his fiancée, Caryn Chandler, and his son Zach's decision to leave the show with his family. Just sad that the “farm” became more important than the “family.” Don’t tell your kids growing up that it’s their legacy if you expect them to pay you millions to get it.

Too bad the family didn't learn more from him about taking care of the farm so it could be their legacy and not get it to sell it for less than he could.

He hasn't given his family enough credit...Jacob was sexually abused by a staff member of the show...his only daughter moved away...he gave Amy a small divorce settlement...his two boys decided their childhood working on the farm/the show weren't good enough for Matt to continue the legacy owning a piece of the farm.
Matt decided the farm is worth 3 times it's worth so the boys had no chance to buy the farm.
Ironically Matt now rents out parts of the farm as nobody wants to over pay for the farm either.
Money is Matt's motivation JMO

Matt you built Zach up so much he did everything with you on the farm. Then to dump him and drove them off the farm. You made the farm and what you wanted and not listen to your family. That all your family left the farm!

I will give him credit for building the farm in the huge business, but you cannot give a man. Credit, who goes and has an affair with his office worker, splits up. His family involves that big mouth into the discussion of who's going to be able to buy the farm and then denies his children. The right he is where he is because of his own actions

Yes, but, sad and, unfortunately Matt judged both Zach and, Jermey on their past behaviors, not for the men that they had become today! Yes, go back and, watch it and, pay attention to that episode ,yes, that’s how sad Matt is that far out of touch with reality. When, you grow up and, mature into adulthood and, you start coming more into your adulthood, you evolve into a different person and, your view on things start to shift, so, sad that a father can’t seem to recognize that in his own children, to say that they wouldn’t be capable or responsible enough to take care of the family farm and, saying, it will end up being my responsibility cause, you won’t be able to handle it, then, went on about using them being so, destructive, I mean if you look at Zach or Jermey today, you can’t see that in neither of them, I was more for Zach though to! But, I cried when, I watched that and,Matt judging them off of being kids, my heart just broke for them and, especially Zach and Tori! Tori, loved that farm just as much as he did!
There's reasons Matt didn't give Zach the farm. Mat has talked about it in the past, Zach wasn't showing the hard work and personal responsibility that it takes to take care of 30+ acres and he and maybe some of the other kids would leave trash, leave cans, broke windows, all repairs were done by Matt.
Zach I think expected to have things he wasn't putting alot of effort into maintaining beforehand. I don't think anyone should inherit that much without proving they can handle the responsibility of it.
This divorce was the best thing for Amy! She now has a real stand up man with beautiful character!

I think the blame for all of the heartache the Roloffs went through falls squarely on Matt Roloff’s shoulders. He has to be one of the most selfish people I’ve ever seen on tv. He really hurt his ex-wife and their children.

literally grew up watching this show. i’m just a few years younger than his to oldest boys. I was sadden to see the divorce between him and Amy, I always felt like they were never a match. Amy wasn’t always able to keep up with Matt’s fast decision making life! Matt definitely was insensitive throughout his marriage by not making decisions that took account for how his wife felt… Marriage is never supposed to be one sided and he definitely appeared to be all about self.
Maybe if they hadn’t done reality tv they’d still be together…$$$$$$$hope it was worth it…
We don’t know that, we only see a part of their lives.

Must admire everything he did and achieved..like it or not...his kids would not have any money or a life without him. Especially Zack and Tory. They dont even need to work. Zack never worked. His dad made even his stools for him. Matt might not be very likeable but he did so much more on that farm that an able bodies man would have. He deserves some credit. He even had a job when the show started elsewhere. Those brats must be grateful. I feel sorry for Jacob and happy he is working on the farm.

@@nancyadamson286Zach can't take care of the farm. He'd be calling Matt 24/7 but matt doesn't want to do it anymore. Zach would end up selling it for less than matt. Don't know why ppl think The kids are OWED anything. Matt can change his mind if he wants. It's his, not the kids.

@@lw9708 He can change his mind, especially when he sees none of the kids have the ability or even cared enough to learn how to take care of the farm. He eventually saw that they would not maintain it and likely sell it for far less than he could get for it. He doesn't have to throw away money if he doesn't want to. They should have learned to take care of the farm if they really wanted it.

You changed the world for good gave a look into your work and how to handle different challenges in family life and saw everything was not roses and sunshine

Nah, I think Zach and Jacob at least have a good head on their shoulders. And Jacob is on record as hating being on the show and said it always felt phony when the camera was rolling and I think Zach has said that as well. Also Jacob is on record as saying he was sexually assaulted by a producer which may play a major part for his hate for his time on the show.
No comment, just love the show, will miss all of them. I now watch the podcast Rising Heights with Zach and Torrie( my spelling might be off) but you know what i mean. It’s a very good podcast, especially when the kids are on, they are the cutest children, Jackson is soooo smart. Love them.

It is likely that Matt's new wife, since it is unlikely he will outlive her, will end up with the entire farm.
He said to Amy that he will put her in charge of the farm and have it in writing. As he should.
On recent show Matt advised Amy she would be executor of the farm at his death.

I fell in love with everyone from the show. Even Karen is semi-likable now. Lol. I wish them all happiness, continued success and family love.
Matt's always taking the beating for not selling Zach the farm. But why couldn't Tori's family help make up the cost difference? Why is everything Matts fault when he gave them a great childhood. That is all parents are tasked with doing. He doesn't have to do anything past that. Tori's parents didn't offer a dime.

@@LilySalinas11 So what. He's allowed to change his mind. It's his property. He gave the kids a great childhood. He doesn't have to do anything beyond that if he chooses. They are adults with families, not kids anymore. I believe he saw how none of the kids tried to learn from him how to take care of the farm or run it so he changed his mind. If he sold it to Zach, Zach would call him every 5 minutes to help with things and Matt doesn't want to do it anymore. Zach would likely lose the farm and have to sell it at a far greater discount than Matt would get, and it would end up out of the family anyway. By not selling to Zach, it can still stay in the family bc he's leaving it to Amy. Now the inheritance can be split evenly. If he sold it to Zach at a discount, it would rob the other kids of their share of the property inheritance.
@@LilySalinas11 Amy may decide to sell it to Zach or one of the kids at a discount but then she will have to deal with the other kids saying it's not fair. That's why Matt is leaving it to Amy. Let her deal with it and see how hard it is to make decisions like that. Let Tori be mad at Amy for a change. Tori acts like Matt is her dad and owes her something. She's such a little manipulator and I'm sure she has had her eye on that farm since high school.

I haven't had cable for years now, so I have missed a lot. What happened, if you dont mind me asking? Last I saw the show, Amy was getting married. I thought Matt was leaving the farm to Zach and Tory. And I just heard that there is some bad blood between Matt and Zak.
@@mommabearmaryann8106from my understanding I think Matt was selling part of the farm he offered the kids an offer and it was too much for them or they didn’t like the price he was asking. They probably expected him to just give it to them. It obviously has to be more to the story. But he left the farm to Amy so it would be up to her to deal with the kids and farm
@Oh_kay Wow, he left it to Amy. I'm shocked and happy about that. She loves that farm. I hope things can be worked out with Matt and Zak. I know how much Zak loves the farm, too. Zak also has to realize that his father still has to live and support himself and needs money for that. He can't just give away the farm.

Its not unusual for children to have to pay market value for property from retiring parents. The parents often need the money to fund their retirement. It would not be fair to the other kids plus Zach will g we t his share when Matt dies.
