  • For MVHRs 5th birthday on 24 May 2003, MVHR ran a double headed special to Imbil on the Mary Valley branch line with C17 No.45 and C17 No.802. The run was the last time C17 No.45 ran and the official return to service for C17 No.802. It was also the first run of MVHRs club car No.1130. Filmed by Neranda Krafft. Edited by Scott Arnell.

This was in 2003 prior to 967 being bought by MVHR. 967 was owned and operated by Beaudesert Rail at this time.

Lots of memories... Makes me upset to see what's become of 45. They could've put 819's boiler and running gear on her and had 2 operating locos. Anyways no point moaning, I had my time and fun and am grateful. Thanks for posting.

The moment by moment working of this railway carries the mark of authenticity. If one looks at many videos of current British heritage railways, when locos are being shifted around and reversed on turntables etc. they always seem to move at the pace of what Ogden Nash described as "molasses in Reykjavik." As if they might get derailed by an ant on the metals, and "I have to clear the points by at least 20 metres before they can be switched." I exaggerate, but you know what I mean. Thankfully none of that nonsense occurs here. The loco is maneuvered along a parallel track to the coaches at a fair lick, someone jumps from the cab before the points are reached and switches them as soon as the rear wheels clear the mechanism. Same at the turntable, no dilly-dallying but a quick entry, jam on the brakes, beaver away at the turntable handle, click.. and then off we go again! No time wasted at all. And I believe this is how it would have been done in the steam era. Were these movements as slow as we often see today, they would have attracted the ire of the yard foreman and told to get a move on!

Why was it C17 45's last run?

    • @scottarnell8764

+Taurean Lea 45 was withdrawn due to the boiler reaching its life expiry and running gear needing major overhaul.

Scott Arnell Is C17 45 still alive even if it was withdrawn?

Taurean Lea No, boiler has had it. It needs a new boiler and a major rebuild on the rest of it to operate again. It is currently stored in the shed at Gympie.
