    Hiya Rebecca, what a brilliant, informative video. I'm glad you showed the manual tracing as I don't have a printer at the moment. When you turned the tracing paper and used the pencil over the image it reminded me of brass rubbing when I was a kid. I'd actually forgotten how to trace so now I know, thanks to you!👍

    Thank you so much for doing this video. I have been wanting to put some images onto watercolor papers and wasn't sure how to do it. My printer will not handle thick paper. Your instructions were very clear - can't wait to try this.

    Hi again rebecca, I meant to tell you that my printer is a wireless one where you can print from your phone or iPad and you can copy as well. I do have a good scanner but I find I use the function on the printer more. If you buy PDF pages then it is so simple to print from your iPad. You probably know all this so sorry if I am telling you stuff you know. Love your witch page

    I’ve used colored pencil and I’ve used watercolor right in the light pad. It saves me time not having to actually trace my sketches or photography and there’s no lines left behind unless I want to add them. I do this so I still have the original if I don’t like how something turns out. No the water won’t go through if if you’re using the right paper lol

    Awsome video Rebecca thank you ! brilliant that you can utilise colouring books in this way, you double your money I suppose !! :0) and id totally forgotten about the covering the flip side of an image on tracing paper with Graphite, saves making big gouges in your expensive watercolour paper, all those pictures that can now be turned into watercolour paintings!! the possibilities are endless!! Excited !! :0)

    Hi Rebecca, I have an epson photo printer and it handles paper as heavy as 310gsm. I put only two sheets in the feeder at a time. It is an inkjet and you need to be carful when you buy an inkjet that you get really good pigment ink otherwise the ink tends to run a little when wet. The epson printers are the best and although the ink is expensive it last ages. I do not have problems with ink smudging when I use lots of water. I have also put heavy card stock through it. I think laser printers are quite cheap now but the cartridge is too expensive for me. I have been experimenting for years with printers as I do photography as well and print out all my photos. Epson are the best. Cheers

    Rebecca, my printer has a paper feeder that curls around the back if you know what I mean. Some paper feeders go straight through the printer and they should be able to handle any paper. I hardly ever go heavier that 310 gsm. Just a thought if you are buying one but I don’t know if epson has the straight through feeder printers. Love to know what you decide if you are buying one.

      If inkjet printer ink does not run when wet then I may go for one of those. I spent ages on Amazon looking for reasonably priced printers that would print out on 300lb card stock but the max I could find was 220lb. I didn't even look at inkjet though as I was under the impression that the ink wasn't waterproof. Thanks for the info, I might go and look for an Epson inkjet instead 👍😀

    Another great idea is to use watercolor ground. You paint it onto any paper the night before you're ready to paint on it. It will provide a nice durable surface to use any kind of media! (Not sure about alcohol markers though...they may still bleed through and the surface wouldn't be smooth enough to be enjoyable).

    Hi Rebecca, thanks for showing this, I’ve just bought a lighting box and your video is timely. My printer prints on card stock but the watercolour paper is more problematic. What watercolour paper do you usually use? You mentioned you buy it in rolls...

      Hi Cully. I purchased the huge 30"x40" sheets as you can cut them down to the size you want and it makes it a lot more cost effective than purchasing pads. In fact, if you purchase it from Jackson's, they will also cut it for you at no extra cost.
      At the moment, I'm still experimenting with different papers. I have most experience with Bockingford and I love it. It's not the top quality 100% cotton paper that the experts say is the best but I think it's great. I've just purchased some of the Botanical Smooth (50% cotton) and the Saunders Waterford (100% cotton) too. All 3 of these papers are by the same manufacturer, St Cuthbert's Mill.
      The Saunders Waterford is supposed to be the best, but I just love the Bockingford. I find that I can lift the colour off the paper more easily with the Bockingford when I want to lift out highlights. I've found that the Saunders Waterford and the Botanical just grab the colour and it stains the paper right away, but I'm not super experienced with these papers so it could just be a learning curve. The Botanical is really good for keeping the colours bright and vibrant. As you will probably already know, watercolor usually dries lighter, more faded than when it was wet. I didn't notice it doing this on the Botanical paper so it's really good for vibrancy.
      If you're in the US, Cully, you might not be able to get these papers at a reasonable price as they are a UK based Company but I heard that Jackson's do have reasonable international shipping rates. But you might want to go for some Fabriano or Arches paper as everybody raves about these paper but I've never tried them myself. They are super expensive in the UK unfortunately. Hope that helps.😀

      Thank you for your very thorough response. I haven’t yet tried Bockingford but I now will. I know all these artists say to start with the best even on practice but I just can’t. It feels like a waste because I’m just a beginner, It makes me not want to try at all. Which is why I’m looking for a more affordable paper that I won’t feel guilty messing up. You really got me into watercolour, you make it seem so easy, I like that you’re not afraid to show yourself learning, it inspires me to do the same. Thank you again very much. And btw, I’m in the UK. Down in Sussex.

    I find it works well to photocopy the image on 20 lb. copier paper. Then I use Saral Wax Free Transfer Paper (Graphite) to trace it onto watercolor paper. The transfer papers with wax don't erase well.

  • @merylehawkins464
    @merylehawkins464 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    That seems like an enormous amount of work. Couldn’t you just take your book to a copy centre with your watercolour paper and have it printed? I admire your dedication and your watercolour videos are brilliant.

    • @rebeccasartcoloringvideos7800
      @rebeccasartcoloringvideos7800  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Meryle. You probably can, and you might know more about that than me as I've never done it. I would imagine it would be a bit pricey though for one image and I do wonder if they would do it at all as there could be copyright issues, with there being a charge.
      Not sure if you watched the full video but I did explain a few different methods, some quicker than others, depending on what equipment you have available, and as I stated in the video, there are other methods but I'm just showing what I do and I didn't find it to be a huge amount of work at all. In fact, I find tracing images very therapeutic. But each to their own.
      I personally would rather just trace it out myself. I would probably find it a bit awkward taking one sheet of delicate watercolor paper and a coloring book on a trip to a print business. But, some people might find it easier to do that than tracing the image out.

      Rebecca's Coloring Videos hi Rebecca, I live in New Zealand and we have copy shops everywhere. It costs about 20cents to have one sheet done and they are extremely careful with the paper. I print my own at home as I buy a lot of PDF sheets and I have an epson printer which handles the paper I do use the copy centres when I have many pages as it is cheaper that doing it at home. I asked about copyright and as I purchased the book and printing for my own use it is ok. I suppose we all use the methods which suits us best and I admire you for doing all that tracing.

      I live in the US & a place that makes copies won’t print images out of a book or copy professional photos bc of copyright laws. You are lucky if they do that in New Zealand!

  • @merylehawkins464
    @merylehawkins464 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi again, you do need to be careful that you get an epson with photo printing cartridges as you are right, most inkjet ink is not waterproof. Pigment ink is used for photos printers and I have never had a problem with ink running when wet. Admittedly I probably use more dry brush watercolouring than you do. I us a lot of watercolour pencils as well. If you take your paper to a shop that sells printers they will run a page through for you and you can take it home and try it. Good luck

      Or, if you only have an inkjet printer, you can print out your page and use a fixative to set the ink on the paper so that when you’re coloring, the ink won’t come off.

    Some books are also too large for an A4 scanner.
