The bit at the end with Emad describing how he can see color for the first time is, to me, further evidence that Arrival is the best scifi movie of the 21st century and the best one since 2001: A Space Odyssey. The whole premise of that movie is about how encountering and immersing yourself in other ways of thinking, such as learning new languages, rewires your mind to the point that new abilities begin to emerge.

14:04 when when we got the Internet, we assumed free information and communication would help people be smarter/get to the truth.
Turns out people found echo chambers and found voices which confirms the things they thought were true and just made them believe more in their believes.
Also the algorithms helped them find easy answers to complicated problems, that always turn out not not to be true.

When I got access to the Internet (back in 1991 through my university), I was excited about the access to information and channels of communication it opened up for me. I still am. I am learning new things everyday from sources that wouldn’t have been open to me in the past. I can do this from the comfort of my home, which I can also work and study from, at only the cost of the technology that makes this possible.
I’m not looking for echo chambers. The Internet makes it possible to read and hear the opinions of others from different countries and social spheres. It has broadened, not narrowed, my world. Algorithms are only useful if you mindlessly follow their suggestions instead of picking through them and using search tools.

We learn to interact with our PAI (Personal Augmented Intelligence) in an almost continuous dialogue mode - perhaps in a mix of conscious and unconscious way. Would this serve to enhance our Reflexive Self Consciousness? I believe that this might be the route to alignment, by which I mean, Self Alignment (not selfish alignment). Handheld video and VCRs, PCs, the internet, have ALL been driven into universal adoption by ONE thing: entertainment. Whether it be video games, video or (pr0n). I expect nothing different this time. Business will ALWAYS be the last one to adopt, except for programmers and CSRs sorry about my baaaaad luck as a programmer.

Energy scarcity (perceived) is the basis of social control. If energy cost goes to zero there is a loss of social control. For those in control to keep control they have to control (cost of unit of energy / per person).
To maintain control you have to artificially maintain high cost of energy (the numerator), or have to move the denominator (people) to zero to maintain the ratio.
Is it any wonder what we’re seeing around us in terms of cratering health, and (de) population. As he says, the Cofufu was five years ago).

Hey guys. I’ve been watching you guys for a while and I love the content… so inspiring. Do you have any tips for educators? I am a high school teacher in Canada and I often talk to my staff about the future of education and the application of AI, but I would love to be directed to some content to help me develop my ideas.

Not everyone is. My volunteer work and most of my courses are now online. I don’t go to movies or eat out as much and take the train instead of flying, even if this restricts the number of places I can go (I’m in North America).
People around me seem more health conscious. Dress is more casual.
In my immediate neighbourhood, a lot of businesses, many run by those approaching retirement, closed during the pandemic. The new ones that replaced them aren’t as numerous and include ghost kitchens and hybrids that sell most of their products online. Restaurant and business hours are shorter because they still can’t find staff. Home delivery of everything from groceries to furniture is booming.

Concerning ai generating its own content, a similar thing must have happened to beethoven when he went deaf. His last piano sonatas sound as though they come from another realm. The blind poet Milton is another example.

We have lived in 6 Ages of economic output. each one is 10X-1000X wealthier
    - Caveman
    - Hunter / Gatherer
    - Agrarian local
    - Agrarian global (ships sailing the world)
    - Industrial
    - Decentralized & Exponential (the age we are entering with the internet, Ai, Bitcoin, Alt Energy, etc)
we cant even fathom how rich we'll be in a peer to peer economy where we all produce our own energy & food. where we mine asteroids with bots. where we have Ai teachers and Ai powered glasses to guide us.
Imagine a trillion robots doing chore, cleaning up, policing the world, flying cars, using ai powered ships and gliders.
