    that was useless never showed how they put the first course down if it was fastened to footing or how they spliced a section where a closet is cutting them or anything.

    So what holds it in place while you are installing it?

    Is the first rows done with ICF block of 10 inches ? Or what is the right size? Kind of doesn't look like 8 inches inner size?

    Could you pour concrete every couple of rows?

    • @TheMarpalm
      @TheMarpalm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      michael lyden no- each pour is weak between the joint with the next “pour” ideally you want a single pour

    I know there are other videos with the first row install everyone is so worried about. Maybe just change the name/title of this video. I have watched all your other videos and so this was great 'little bit of everything' refresher video.

    Useless video didn't show if adhesive was used between ICF & concrete footing.

      Sean Signer the spray foam that he talked about is an adhesive- if you have ever used “Greatstuff” you know that it bonds really well- the spray foam is the same

    All these videos. Didn't show how to attach dry wall. Styrofoam
    Exposed. Always ❓

      Drywall attaches with regular drywall screws into the black plastic webbing that runs vertically every 8" on center. It is just below the surface of the styrofoam. Similarly with siding on the outside.

      Paul Betka _ You should utilize your search engine;
      Search TH-cam for;
      "How to install drywall on ICF walls"
      You will find some videos about that subject

    What a useless piece of information.
    Why did you not show us the first row? I won't be using it for my home

      You're missing out. These are great.
      First row gets laid to the chalk line. Add clips at the seams where the blocks come together. When the wall is Vuitton come back and ensure the top of wall is level. (Shim the bottom of the wall as needed). Brace the walls. Use spray foam along the bottom of the block where it meets the footing to secure the block. (The spray foam works better than you'd think). READY TO POUR.

    • @rronmar
      @rronmar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What Matt said, you are missing out. you foam it to the footing, and to add to what he said, it works better if everything is dry when you foam it. I also tied some of the horizontal rebar to the uprights coming out of the footing. I left a few areas un-foamed to allow me to rinse any debris out before the pour. We just moved into our owner build after final insp last week. It is on a full daylight basement,(8” basement icf, 6” upper icf walls) super insulated with radiant heat. The room temp has been within 1 degree of the 66F I set the thermostat at last week, every time I have looked at it. I can’t hear airplanes, I can’t hear trucks on the highway, I can’t hear the wind blow... if you pass, you will be passing on a solid, quiet, comfortable house... they have other videos showing the process from start to finish if you feel you are missing out. I think they did this one as people were getting confused on the proper way to use the clips at the corners. Dead easy build process by the way, my wife and I did it all, and hired the pours done...

      @@rronmar Thank you for the information. I am in the research stage and really like this idea. I will have a full basement, but not a daylight. did you do any additional waterproofing to the exterior of the basement walls? What concrete thickness did you go with? Any advice or anything would be extremely helpful. thanks!

    • @rronmar
      @rronmar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@diyoregonnowtexas9202 yes I used Henry Blue skin(wpa200?) for waterproofing, the foam is mostly waterproof, but the seams where all the blocks meet are not, nor is the concrete. After brushing off the loose/dirty foam oxide and using henrys adhesive primer, I applied 3’ wide strips of the material vertically with the prescribed overlap. I have a video of part of that process here on TH-cam. I ran it down over the footing. I covered it with 1” pink foam to protect it from the layer of gravel backfill and there is a french drain and gravel around the perimeter of the footing. I am on sand and a slight hill so the drain runs to daylight, but we perk so well I have never seen any water come out the drain. Depending on your soil type and water table relationship, you may need to plumb a drain to sump and sub pump… on the inside I put 2” of foam and vapor barrier under a 4” slab. I used 8” concrete thickness for the basement walls and transitioned that to 6” for the above grade house walls. Here in the northwest we are seismic zone 2 so you will also use a considerable amount of rebar, and things like large windows and vaulted ceilings are a bit more difficult to engineer. The floor floor and earth restrain the basement walls and the roof trusses restrain the above grade walls. Vaulted trusses do not have as much restraint. We also needed additional rat-runs in the roof structure to restrain the end walls(rectangular structure). We did out floor support a little different also. We placed a corbel/brickledge block at the top of the basement wall, but on the inside. We put a sill plate on top of this and used top-chord hung trusses hanging from that. Good luck
