    The Arizona General Contractors License is a requirement for any business which contracts or offers to contract to build, alter, repair, add to, subtract from, improve, move, wreck or demolish any building, highway, road, railroad, excavation or other structure, development or improvement, or to do any part of the work.
    This video will cover everything from Arizona general contractors license requirements, where to find online courses, training, practice tests and study guides and much more!
    The Arizona Registrar of Contractors (AROC) is the governing agency for contractors in the state of Arizona
    There are 4 Main levels to the General building license in Arizona:
    General Commercial
    General Small Commercial
    General Residential
    General Remodel and Repair
    You will first need to meet the basic Arizona contractor license requirements:
    -18 years of age
    -Driver’s License or USA ID
    -Social Security
    -Not Currently on Probation or Parole
    -Be a legal business entity
    In addition to these basic requirements. To get the Arizona state contractor license you must also have to have experience in the construction trades, and you may be asked to prove your experience.
    To get licensed and bonded in Arizona you will need someone who can sign off on your experience. Journeyman level experience is gained working unsupervised performing all of the duties associated with the general construction license.
    The Arizona general contractors license is for experienced journeyman who do not need to be taught anything about their expertise.
    Arizona contractors are expected to have achieved a certain level of mastery and must know how to safely engage in their specific type of work. The Arizona registrar of contractor’s main responsibility is to protect the consumer public from contractors who may not have the experience or safety knowledge required.
    The entire process to get an AZ contractors license fluctuates on a variety of different factors. In some cases, it can take up to 6 months.
    If you have a criminal record, you will want to make sure that all of your court documents are in order.
    If you have worked under the table, try to get any proof of experience that you can. This can be check stubs, tax returns, receipts, invoices anything that can show you have worked in construction.
    You will also need to pass a two-part exam.
    The Arizona business management exam survey is currently 80 questions covering a variety of topics related to Arizona construction law.
    Choosing a contractor license school can be very helpful in helping you pass your state exam. Contractor classes should cover law only. There are also many resources that include online schools that offer Arizona contractors license exam preparation.
    For information on Arizona general contractors license exams, study guides and practice tests you can check out this resource: digitalconstructive.com/trade...
    For more information about the Arizona business management exam, exam check out: digitalconstructive.com/arizo...
    Make sure that you prepare by doing Arizona contractors license tests online, study guides and even use flashcards. Remember that contractor classes should be law-focused, not teaching trade. To learn trade, you would look for a construction apprenticeship.
    Getting the ROC license can be a huge step up for you in your career. In addition to being licensed and bonded, there may be a requirement for some type of journeyman certification. Be sure to check your local county and city laws.

    Do you yourself have to be the qualifying party to take the exam for the test? Or can you hire someone on to take the exam and would the contractors license still be in your name? Follow up question what if the person with the experience does decide to stop working with you does that invalidate your license?

    • @digitalconstructive5486
      @digitalconstructive5486  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Santana. The qualifying party would be the one who has to take the examination. The license would be in their name or under the name of a company, they are associated with. In the event that person left the company, a new qualifier would be needed.
      You can refer to the AROC website here: roc.az.gov/applying-license

    You mentioned that for the residential general contractors license you have to hire subcontractors for various services. What if you're an electrician and you're building your own home, do you have to hire an electrician?

      So according to Arizona law, an owner of any land can build a home on that land without obtaining a contractor's license long as they do not intend to sell or rent for a period of at least one year from the date of completion or issuance of a certificate of occupancy. For more info refer to: roc.az.gov/before-hire

    So what constitutes 4 years of experience? Being a construction laborer? Being in a trade? For the residential class B license.

    Hi! I had a quick question about obtaining the license. Is it possible to obtain the license and have an employee who does not have one work under you? In other words, would your license cover your employees as well?

    • @digitalconstructive5486
      @digitalconstructive5486  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is correct. If you have a business holding a license, your employees would not need their own licenses as long as they are working under your business/license.

    Im 17 and turning 18 on February 12th, can i start the process now knowing that by the time i’m done i’ll be well over 18 years of age. And how does the whole process take to get my general contracting license realistically. I’ve been working since I was 13 and have contractors to vouch for me. I’ve seen videos on how long it can take but it would give me a clearer picture if i was told personally. Also i’m still in school and will finish High school this summer or even sooner.

      Hello Christian. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors requires at least 4 years of experience gained after your 18th birthday to qualify for a General Contractor License. If I want to subdivide my 12 acres and build residential housing on them do I need the KB2 to GC that project? Also, how many years in a construction trade do I need to apply for a contractors license?

    • @digitalconstructive5486
      @digitalconstructive5486  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Char. According to AROC. Applicants will need: "a minimum of four years' practical or management trade experience, at least two of which must have been within the last ten years, dealing specifically with the type of construction, or its equivalent, for which the applicant is applying for a license". www.azleg.gov/ars/32/01122.htm
      As for information regarding your specific project, I would suggest you reach out to the Arizona Registrar of Contractors directly: roc.az.gov/
      Hope this helps!

    Okay… so what exactly is the difference between a “general dual license contractor” and a “specialty dual license contractor” what can I do with each? Please inform me…
    I think with the speciality it includes all electrical and HVAC and other trades license right?

    • @digitalconstructive5486
      @digitalconstructive5486  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the specialty licenses refer to specific trades while the dual licenses allow you to perform different areas of contraction e.g. (small commercial and residential). This page explains it in further detail: roc.az.gov/license-classifications
