    great talk !!
    I´d been Mambo-dancer since Dirty Dancing and then continued with Lambada and Salsa
    So I think I understand your questions verry well.
    Now I am dancing Tango since 2003 and I can tell you - you can have all you have all of the Salsa fun in Tango too but almost none of the Tango joy in Salsa !!!
    And I agree to Eleonora in total concerning the aspect or freedom - and yes, it is like painting music while beeing in a deep sensitive embrace !

    Actually, I think Eleonora is mistaken about dancers knowing both roles in the US. Mostly, there are very few dancers who dance both roles socially, and these are usually the top-level dancers of their communities, often teachers. I suspect that because Eleonora may often be dancing socially with these top dancers, her viewpoint is biased. I do know that there are places in the US where they teach beginners both roles from day one, but so far this is very far from the standard.
