He died without explaining WHY Ketso Gordhan (his nephew) was awarded SAA contracts while Pravin was minister of Public Enterprises and when he was minister of Finance. In those 2 portfolios, he literally presided over SAA and his nephew got contracts. Ketso continued to get IPP contracts at Eskom just before the pandemic and Pravin was presiding over Eskom. That’s exactly how I will personally remember Pravin.

You would think differently if you had ever encountered him at close quarters. He undermined black people.
He found me chatting with some important American people at a conference organised by our government. Walked up to us, read my name tag, completely ignoring me other than that, then broke into our conversation addressing the yte Americans only, without even a nod in my direction.
The Americans were so embarrassed they quickly made excuses about returning to their seats and walked away. He immediately followed them to his seat which was in the same area as theirs.
      That’s just one example.

Klein, he did well at SARS but was terrible at Finance Ministry. Go look at the Budgets from 2009 to 2014: that is when the deficit worsened. I agree that coming out of the 2008 financial crisis governments needed to spend but as FM you need to guard the deficit, if it is being spent on consumption rather than fixed capital formation.

Fighting to disrupt the Afrikaans speaking community by any means neccessary.. Hogging every lever and space in this country.. Using the Afrikaans speaking community As crunches to Lean ON.. Ride the gravy train of functioning institutions of education and ruin them.. Because black people cant do it themselves... If Black people can do it.. They must show it... Build functional languages that can translate into the industry.. But Black people cant.. So to take a short cut.. Wait for the Afrikaans speaking community to build these instituitions and then want to be included(claiming public interest) .. Take them over and ruin them.. Look at Forthare....majority of black schools disfunctional.. In every sphere.

Some fair comment on Pravin. But let’s be realistic. When he took over the SOE’’s. They were already a sink hole, all of them. When you have a business like transnet that procures trains that can’t fit on the South African rail tracks what do you? People expected miracles from him when there were sea of hyenas around the hyenas. When you have a ceo of Eskom that focussed on writing a book in the three years he was employed. What do you do. cEOs that don’t do their job. And you expect a minister to resolve the problems. Country, please not be stupid in mass. But we are.our stupidly killed him.

Money that could hav build 1 million houses? So when u say sold for r51, you must also give the context and history, but with 30% education, many cannot think past ter nose.. and it was not r51, their were condition like takatso had to put 2 million into saa as working capital.. pravin was doing the country a favor buy getin rid of somtin that was draining our tax money. It's only when pvt sector was running saa did we start seeing a turn around.. excess dead weight in terms of staff were fired and it started operating like a business, not a looting vehicle that it was..once that happened, suddenly the past rot was forgotten, and pravin became the bad guy

Pravin may have participated in the struggle, but he did not belive in the original ideologies of the ANC. They played a role in stalling RDP and introduced GEAR which dismally failed. Anyone going back to the critics of GEAR when it was introduced, will realize that high inequality, high unemployment, high interest rates, abject poverty, financially orientated state, rampant corruption, and collapse of State Institutions are the consequences of GEAR. SAn masses who rendered the Appartheid regime ungovernable, those who matched, those who were beaten and shot at, are the ones who played critical role iin the struggle. The role of some leaders are exaggerated.

Just in case you did not get the memo: the worst haters of PG are cadres who he thwarted from getting their 'pound of flesh' of the fiscus. Till their dying days PG stands no better than all Capitalists combined. We are sort of catching up with the ANC.

Black Africans generally speak English as a home language. Mother tongue education is also not something new. In fact James Henderson (Lovedale's third principal) was advocating it in the 1930s. So JJ get your historical facts straight instead of perpetuating myths!!

JJ you've only zoned in on one aspect of the Bela bill and using that to endorse it in its entirety including the flawed aspects.. The department of education is struggling with a shortage of skilled teachers and there currently many vacant teacher positions even though the system is producing more than enough teachers annually, so what's happening there?
The Gauteng government has just cut the education budget by over R4Billion for the 2024/2025 financial year, at the same time, the Bela bill says Grade R should be compulsory (which is good) but that alone will require an additional R12Billion! This doesn't make any sense at all! Some aspects of the bill are indeed great as you've highlighted but some aspects were not supposed to have been included, at least not until the government has the capacity and resources for those other clauses in the bill.

Bella act does little if physics and maths are not thought in African languages too when they are thought in Afrikaans. lf the act does not aim at producing self sufficient and self reliant graduates who can further industrialise the country and create jobs for the poor.

Can one or two actions sully, despoil, erase, devalue the heroic legacy of a struggle hero? And I ask this question not restricted to the South African context but internationally. in my view I believe a single action can belittle the legacy of a political liberator. Secondly, is it fair to separate the legacy of a struggle hero from that of a public servant after 'victory'?

The ANC's position on language was weak (and has always been), hence in the last 30 yrs they've championed the idea of being agreeable to everyone - thus displeasing everyone alike. Like Francophone Africa, the ANC found themselves 'married' to the language of their colonizers - English.
