You would think differently if you had ever encountered him at close quarters. He undermined black people.
He found me chatting with some important American people at a conference organised by our government. Walked up to us, read my name tag, completely ignoring me other than that, then broke into our conversation addressing the yte Americans only, without even a nod in my direction.
The Americans were so embarrassed they quickly made excuses about returning to their seats and walked away. He immediately followed them to his seat which was in the same area as theirs.
      That’s just one example.

Klein, he did well at SARS but was terrible at Finance Ministry. Go look at the Budgets from 2009 to 2014: that is when the deficit worsened. I agree that coming out of the 2008 financial crisis governments needed to spend but as FM you need to guard the deficit, if it is being spent on consumption rather than fixed capital formation.

im not buying this bela thing .. my question is, why always wanting to take away something that works when others you are in charge of dont work? same with nhi, cannot fix public hospitals but what to take over the private ones.. if som1 works hard and can afford pvt care, what is the problem? government should be using our tax money to get public hospitals to function lik pvt hospitals.. their are schools in kzn which use zulu as main language. their are schools in eastern cape that use xhosa.. so are they also goin to be forced to change ? its nonsensical and does not solve any problem.. if you dont speak afrikaans, go to a school which u are comfortable with.. we dont see english speakers or afrikaans speakers fighting to go to zulu speaking schools.. how come? JJ, the focus should be on changing those poor schools into the same standard as the afrikaans schools.. u cannot blame them for governments failures.. governments hav taken our tax money for 30 years..please show us the success stories when it comes to schools and hospitals in past 30 years? by now we should have had no poor hospitals.. who do u blame for the looting ? are afrikaaners or som1 to blame?

Some fair comment on Pravin. But let’s be realistic. When he took over the SOE’’s. They were already a sink hole, all of them. When you have a business like transnet that procures trains that can’t fit on the South African rail tracks what do you? People expected miracles from him when there were sea of hyenas around the hyenas. When you have a ceo of Eskom that focussed on writing a book in the three years he was employed. What do you do. cEOs that don’t do their job. And you expect a minister to resolve the problems. Country, please not be stupid in mass. But we are.our stupidly killed him.

Money that could hav build 1 million houses? So when u say sold for r51, you must also give the context and history, but with 30% education, many cannot think past ter nose.. and it was not r51, their were condition like takatso had to put 2 million into saa as working capital.. pravin was doing the country a favor buy getin rid of somtin that was draining our tax money. It's only when pvt sector was running saa did we start seeing a turn around.. excess dead weight in terms of staff were fired and it started operating like a business, not a looting vehicle that it was..once that happened, suddenly the past rot was forgotten, and pravin became the bad guy

Ride the gravy train of functioning institutions of education and ruin them.. Because black people cant do it themselves... If Black people can do it.. They must show it... Build functional languages that can translate into the industry.. But Black people cant.. So to take a short cut.. Wait for the Afrikaans speaking community to build these instituitions and then want to be included(claiming public interest) .. Take them over and ruin them.. Look at Forthare....majority of black schools disfunctional.. In every sphere.

JJ you've only zoned in on one aspect of the Bela bill and using that to endorse it in its entirety including the flawed aspects.. The department of education is struggling with a shortage of skilled teachers and there currently many vacant teacher positions even though the system is producing more than enough teachers annually, so what's happening there?
The Gauteng government has just cut the education budget by over R4Billion for the 2024/2025 financial year, at the same time, the Bela bill says Grade R should be compulsory (which is good) but that alone will require an additional R12Billion! This doesn't make any sense at all! Some aspects of the bill are indeed great as you've highlighted but some aspects were not supposed to have been included, at least not until the government has the capacity and resources for those other clauses in the bill.

When Pravin Gordhan's UDF participation is narrated by the myth makers, one could be forgiven to believe that Gordhan is actually the resurrected Archie Gumede - founder-member (from the then Natal) of the UDF, and subsequently that party's president. There seems to be this concerted zeal to over-inflate his UDF years, artificially raising his activism to the highest levels of valour. In the military, they would say this was "stolen valour" by the narrators on his behalf. JJ is correct to separate Gordhan's record as an activist from that of him as a politician. As an activist, however, as admirable that activism was, he must not be fashioned into something akin to what someone like Archie Gumede was in the UDF!

Anyone going back to the critics of GEAR when it was introduced, will realize that high inequality, high unemployment, high interest rates, abject poverty, financially orientated state, rampant corruption, and collapse of State Institutions are the consequences of GEAR. SAn masses who rendered the Appartheid regime ungovernable, those who matched, those who were beaten and shot at, are the ones who played critical role iin the struggle. a lot of respect for you JJ you are a seasoned journalist. the challenge with politics is that politicians realise that political life is short, they are getting old, they have nothing,so they try to grab something financial, hence the CAUSE OF CORRUPTION. lets face it, Poverty is the cause of corruption. A politician looks at his life, it is coming to an end, yet he has nothing, so he tries to grab somethinG. Rememebr Gwede saying he has four degrees yet people in the private sector are earning more than him. That statement spoke volumes. I got shocked when I heard him saying that. Coming from a background of poverty ,it is very difficult to crack it to the middle class(BOURGEOISIE) from LUMPEN to PLORETARIAT to PETTY BOURGEOIS to BOURGEOIS to CAPITALIST. Most of these politicians are just PETTY BOURGEOISIE, they have nothing, hence the cause of CORRUPTION

Something says he may have been a Trojan horse.
The man had a deep animosity for black people, probably those he could not control.
Also, those who grew up in Durban would tell you how people of Pravin’s culture looked down on black people back then.
