This is a treasure ! The late Jonathan Cecil was the master of Wodehouse Audio Books. Many thanks for posting this reading - perfect listening on a flight, close your eyes and drift away to the wonderful world Wodehouse created. 👏👏
This is no doubt my favorite book. JC is amazing. I’ve listened to so many of these stories I feel like I personally know Jeeves and Bertie….brilliant ❤
For some reason this audiobook has not been as available as the other Jeeves and Wooster books. Thank you so much. I am, as with the others, in awe of Jonathan Cecil's reading.
Jonathan Cecil is one of the best audiobook narrators I’ve ever heard, and I’ve been listening to audiobooks regularly for over 20 years. Not only does he have lots of enthusiasm for PG Wodehouses’s work, his different voices truly sound like different people. I tried to listen to Wodehouse with other narrators and each time quit after a few minutes. None compare to Cecil.
@@trishakraybill5363 I influenced somebody! As long as I have your attention: Martin Clifton on Librivox reading GK Chesterton and Ian McKellen reading Fagles translation of the Odyssey (Audible).
The convivial jabs (telegrams) between Bertie and his Aunt Dahlia in this reading are hilarious. When she calls him an ass and said it was a shame there was 100 miles between then so she couldn’t hit him with a brick, makes me chuckle all to myself.
I just looked him up. (Wikipedia) His father was Lord David Cecil and a professor of English at Oxford. " Brought up in Oxford, where his father was Goldsmith Professor of English, Cecil was educated at Eton, where he played small parts in school plays, and at New College, Oxford, where he read modern languages, specialising in French, and continued with amateur acting[4][5] in the Oxford University Dramatic Society.[3]" So that is why his French is so good Even at standard UK grammar schools French (and Latin until the mid 1960s) were core subjects. The French because of 1066 we were told. As a degree student he will have spent a considerable amount of time studying in France and elsewhere depending on which other languages he was studying.
It is obvious for audio book listeners that all the best narrators are actors. Of stage as well as, these days, screen. Ive not come across any good narrators with no stage experience.
I have never laughed so hard at an audiobook in my life! When he recalled the “Boscher” incident I was in tears. I literally had to stop it to catch my breath. Made my day! 4:10:47
Listening to this while watching the wipers, makes me feel as if I am eavesdropping on their discussion 🚖 from the back seat of a cab or train. 🚆 Fun. M. Illinois. 🇺🇸
Thank you so much for posting this! My mom listens to this. Also, I go to Rebel Wrestling, who's symbol is the bulldog, and Uncle Colin is British! He teaches us new words every Friday!
I thought I had heard all the Cecil / Jeeves/ Wodehouse permutations which is why no doubt that it appeared in my feed (and no doubt the Google guardians on high are expecting a response...this will follow after the closing bracket.). Thanks 👍
In terms of the events of the story, this is up there with the best, even though the J&W series is so good, it's hard to put one on top of the other. What just sort of pains me in this is Bertie's attitude and pigheadedness. He's a much nicer and more amicable character in all the other stories, so it is a bit painful to see him act up like that here. Still though, he's not completely out of character or anything, I can imagine him having a few bad days, especially early on in his career with Jeeves before he knew he was in the presence of a master of caliber hitherto unknown.
Someone tell me if the episode where they bet on events at the village fair is in this. The one where the kid squeals because a bug is put down his neck. If I have fallen asleep listening at night that squealing wakes me up with a pounding heart 😢
Hi again, hope you're fine; I noticed you haven't uploaded in the past few weeks. If you can, could you please upload Lost World by Michael Crichton read by Scott Brick? Thank you!!
What in heaven's name is the point of the video loop of cars driving through a rainy night?? And they're modern cars, completely irrelevant to this period piece.

Not everyone agrees but Johnathan Cecil was always my favorite storyteller
He’s new to me, but I like him
@@TimeslaughingstocksI absolutely agree . No one reads Wodehouse as well as Johnathan Cecil. Brilliant
Jonathan Cecil is an outstanding reader and absolutely brings Bertie and co to life.

The best!
I didn't know he was such a wonderful voice actor; I could swear I heard 7-8 people speaking. Great book, great performance! Thanks!
I agree. Cecil is very talented.
Jonathan Cecil's reading is incomparable.
It’s near-perfect. Although the best rendition IMO is performed by Terry Thomas in ‘Jeeves Takes Charge’
This is no doubt my favorite book. JC is amazing. I’ve listened to so many of these stories I feel like I personally know Jeeves and Bertie….brilliant ❤
Unbelievably funny, perfectly performed , pure Wodehouse. Can't get better than that.

Have you heard Greg Wagland read Arthur Conan Doyle? Greg Wagland is the Jonathan Cecil of Sherlock Holmes.

Don't see the necessity for a car in the rain with wipers wiping throughout the whole reading but there you go. Brilliant narration and voices!!
It is such a joy to hear an actor doing a PROPER French (or whatever) accent AND being able to pronounce the actual language as well.

Imo, this is hands down his funniest novel.
This stuff completes my happiness. Long live happiness!
Loving the vid with the book!!! 😍
I could stare at it forever.... ... Driving in the rain... 😊😊😊
Thank you. So much💞💞💞
This just the best reading of Jeeves! So glad you posted it. Thank you.
I can't bare to listen by any other reader...Cecil IS the only reader I'll listen to....makes Wodehouse sound authentic..

Gussie's famous school presentation speech at Market Snodsbury. Simply the best.
The swashbuckling smile
Speesh!
A strong candidate for the funniest ever chapter in an English-language novel
Nothing can compare to Bertram and Jeeves. Pure gold!
Fantastic audiobook! Outstanding narration by Jonathan Cecil. Cannot be better. Thank you!
'But Berty, we were at school together' love his voice so much but i prefer him as bingo and boko :)
The Newt Fancier appears in this book. Gussie Finknottle old school friend of Bertie and the dreadful Bassett female
Cecil just IS Bertram.
The best! Thank you for the upload, very much appreciated.
Thanks so much, I had only been able to listen to this one 1 time because it got taken down from TH-cam. 😀😀😀😀
Wonderful. Tinkety tonk.

How did Bertie cope for two months in Cannes without Jeeves ??
I was wondering the same. Maybe he hired a Locum Valet? I'm sure his aunt and cousin had a Ladies Maid.
still…!!!
Thank you so much!!!! Looking forward to this!
Cool video during narration. Clever

Cannot find Much Obliged Jeeves anywhere. The majority of videos in the Jonathan Cecil collection/playlist have been deleted. Why is this?
I would love to hear Galahad at Blandings and Lord Emsworth and the Girlfriend, if that is the right title

Nope. Two different novels.

Can you please upload Robert Harris audiobooks?
Thats what im talking about.
A british guy reading a really british thing.
Agreed. I'm not normally too fussy about audiobook narrators, but there are some things that just sound wrong if they're not read by a Brit.
It would put me in mind of the "American" accents in the show 😂

Though that's not how Jonathan Cecil himself pronounced it. It's Sissil. Which is why Cecilia in English is Cicely.
