I love these videos analysing Nik's music. He's a seriously underappreciated composer.
I have always loved Nik Kershaw's music despite not really liking pop music. Somehow I always knew there was complexity and I knew he came from a jazz fusion background. I have not analysed them myself but have tried unsuccessfully to play some of them so I knew there was more going on! It is so great to have you illuminate the theory of some of the songs of the man Elton John said was the greatest songwriter of his generation. Great stuff!

Thank you! for all of this... this goes for the series... yep- Nik is a great sound writer, not the best word writer... i wish he sang in a more obscure language... he'd easily be the best...
Is it just me or do you also feel that going to the minor in the chorus seems to negate the meaning of lyrics? It feels kind of sarcastic to tell someone you adore him/her with this dark mood there.
Nice thought! Personally, I would say that the minor mode makes the chorus more intense and so really supports the meaning of the text. And it is resolved to the relative major chord with that very prominent hook line 3:54.

have you thought of also covering his latest EP "Songs From The Shelf, Pt. 1" with songs written back in the 90s/early 2000s? would be very interesting to see how much it differs from currently written stuff
