Their ranges are 2 pair+, though very likely you're up against at least a set. Oh yeah and you're not even getting 2 to 1. • @honeriley
    @honeriley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Nick would have to pay 44,235 for a total final pot of 117,610. That gives him pot odds 44,235/117610 = 37.6%. But his chances of hitting the flush by the river are only 35%. It's very close but he's not quite getting the pot odds to call profitably. 35% of the time the result would be +73,375. 65% of the time he ends up -44235. On average over time he's losing US$3071.50 every time he makes this call.

      @@Pzychotix that’s now how pot odds works, dude! It’s the ratio of the bet you’re facing to the CURRENT pot (not if you were to call). School won’t teach you basic poker 🤡🤡🤡

    • @honeriley
      @honeriley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Sam-db4mr I wasn't expressing it as a ratio. I know it seems counter-intuitive but when expressing pot odds as a *percentage* , you need to divide the cost of your call by the amount of the *final pot* (which includes the cost of your call). If you want to express the odds as a ratio on the other hand, then it's more as you suggest (cost of your call) : (cost of pot before your call). In this case the ratio would be: 44235 : 73375.

  • @johnbakker4828
    @johnbakker4828 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Did some crude math, think I did it correctly, if I'm off you let me know. For the call to be breakeven he needs to get there 37% of the time. As the graphic shows he has 36%, which would make it a good fold by a margin of 1%. However, that is with the exact hands they have, with the folded cards already taken into account. If we give both Mike and Linglin ranges of top2+ and 2 or 3 combo draws, Nick's odds drop down to 27%. Either way, a good fold.

    • @kevinkim0817
      @kevinkim0817 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea I mean if you call there you're just gambling - which is ok sometimes depending on your risk tolerance. It's not like he was drawing dead by any means, but it was pretty clear what the other 2 had so I don't think you could blame anyone if they wanted to gamble for a huge payout and call

    • @honeriley
      @honeriley 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your maths are good sir. It was close but he didn't quite have the odds he needed to be able to call profitably. I calculate pot odds of 37.6%. If you have 9 clean outs, the chance of hitting your flush on the turn or river is only 35%.

    • @ilumkeebs2625

      His hand needs to have 37.6% equity to break even. We can see that he only has 8 clean outs (6♤ gives Mike Nia a boat) so his chance of winning the whole pot is only around 31%.

    Not happy with HOW he folded there. I will look like I had 10 spontaneous stomach ulcers and then so obviously recheck the pot-odds that people can correct my math in mid-air, and then fold. No reason to be so vocal about it until after you've folded and you begin arguing for your [latest] hand's place in the "I almost had it" Hall of Fame.

    Nit-donkey's first mistake was not folding to Linglin's 3 bet on the flop with Nia still left to act behind him. And then him not knowing what to do with the NFD after everyone goes all in getting horrible odds!? is this guy for real?

    • @Pzychotix
      @Pzychotix 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He had almost exactly the odds for it to be neutral to call. Needed 37%, had 36%. Definitely not horrible odds.

    • @Forever_Laura

      @@Pzychotix WRONG. He wasn't even getting 2 to 1 on a call. If you're basing your 37% on other comments, they are dead wrong in how they calculate pot odds. This is the easiest fold in the history of poker
