    Red WIngs had one, if not THE longest dynasty of a championship contender between 1994-2012 to never miss the play-offs and from 1994-2010 in the same process was regarded as a possible title challanger was astonishing. Having had the dark years of the late 70's to the early 90's Red Wings had a great swing with solid draft picks that bult the supporting frame for the franchise combined with great trades of solid veterans and/or players others did not regarded valuable.
    And even then in the late 90's during there championship run's they get two solid late-picks (Datsuyk & Zetterberg), players of tallent calibre who should´been out of reach for them if others had taken them serious.
    However, what comes up must come down. 1-by-1 each of these left the franchise and/or hockey all togheter and what was left was no core.
    This is the natural process for all great dynasties, it was just that Red Wings in modern times had it for so unusually long. When there dynasty ended about 2010 and from there on, I realized that the Red Wings will have at least a dark decade of rebuilt based on the former GM mentality, but also that such level of deep tallent pool they had is impossible to get again for ANY team, that if they try to "live-on" as a dynasty in mind, they will miss out of higher draft picks and the process will be dragged on to further delaying the long rebuilt.
    Steve Yzerman is a great leader and a great GM, but making a new TP Lightning sucsess is TO MUCH demanding.

    Atlantic is only division where i could see any team miss playoffs or get to playoffs. Ofc its very unlikely Florida or Toronto would miss but other has two very long seasons behind and other has new coach and Marner situation. Also Buffalo, Detroit or Ottawa can become next NJD 22-23 or VAN 23-24 that surprises all and gets huge jump. And Montreal has enough potential to get to wild card spot if everything goes well. Time will tell.

    They are a fringe playoff team... Unfortunately
    Honestly... The way they have drafted etc... It sure seems like this team is meant to hit its stride next season.. It sucks because its been a rough long while for us Wings fans but to me the writing is on the wall that things start to fall into place next season. Some bad yet unnecessary (to get this team out of the basement) contracts Yzerman had to hand out will start to roll off the books and guys like Danielson, Kasper, ASP, MBN, Cossa and Augustine coming down the pipe.
    So long story short.... This team starts legitimately contending next season. Heard it here first.

    The top 6 will be better than last, so the power play should improve as well. The defense will be a question mark. At the end of the day, theyd probably be a guaranteed playoff team if they were still out west instead of in the hardest division in hockey.

    • @georgial6398

      the top 6 will be garbage. the 2nd line will not score at all. Kane and Cat could barely score or generate anything w Compher, but Tarasenko for Cat will somehow make it better? no, they won't score. at all. Kane can't play w Compher. and the 'top line' gives up a ton, runs hot and cold, and over the long haul does not significantly outscore opponents, or didn't last year. so far this preseason they're losing 3-0. losing high danger chances 8-1.

  • @masterbaiters1183
    @masterbaiters1183 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +15

    The lack of top 3 picks during the rebuild window is honestly really shining through, especially on offense… Obviously the Wings have some really good pieces with Larkin, Raymond and Dbrincat but they lack that true alpha superstar that you can basically only get through the draft (they rarely come available through trade or free agency)
    They don’t have that McDavid, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Crosby caliber player up front which has really slowed the rebuild… Im not out on the Wings but I think that lack of lottery luck kinda forces the Wings to play the waiting game
    I think they’ll be a very good team in a few years but they have to wait for Edvinsson, Cossa, Danielson, Sandin-Pelikka, Kasper, Wallinder, Nygaard etc. to break into their potential to create a team dripping with depth scoring and or leverage that for big trades (think Vegas, Stanley cup Kings etc.)

    • @aksis2133

      @@aksis2133 he was a 2nd round pick (it’s easy to confuse him with Kaprizov who was a 5th round pick) but even so, it’s hardly a hole in the argument because of the luck it takes the draft stars past the first few picks and the lack of stars overall outside of that spot (how many stars come from outside the top few picks? Has there even been 10 since 2010? You can’t build a team hoping for that)

    • @_Kakoosh
      @_Kakoosh 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      If they had a player at the level of McDavid and Larkin could play 2C the offense would be on a whole other level, maybe one of the best in the league. But that still doesn’t change how horrendous the defense is

      @@masterbaiters1183 Ok. You said no top 3 picks. Let’s list some players that aren’t top 3 picks just for shits and giggles.

      - Reinhart
      - Nylander
      I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point - and I didn’t even include goalies. There is always elite talent outside of the top 3. It’s just a question of whether or not your scouts are good enough to find them, and while Detroit’s future is decent they’ve missed on a lot of potential big names that other teams were able to find.

    • @masterbaiters1183
      @masterbaiters1183 19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@aksis2133 A lot of the guys you listed here clearly fit “the first few picks” (The Tkachuk’s, Makar, Marner, Hughes, EP40, McAvoy, Nylander and Reinhart were in that range)
      I responded to your point about Kucherov being a 2nd round pick, I didn’t argue it’s hard to get stars past the top 3 but in the top 10, rather that the top 3 is the best spot to get top end guys
      I’m not sure who’ve they “missed on” if you’re talking about their early picks… Seider and Raymond were either the or close to the best player available, Edvinsson is right around the best player available from that class considering his prospect status and 2022 and 2023 was a lot of the same offensively with limited great players when Detroit drafted (although it’s pretty early to tell)… Later on it’s a crapshoot… Scouts can only discover so much about day 2 or 3 guys

    I don't know how anyone can predict them to be a playoff team.
    They have the worst goalie tadem in the league with Lyon and Talbot.
    The defense is not good: Chiarot and Petry are only getting worse, Edvindsson lacks experience and Gustafsson isn't very good defensively. Seider can't do everything on his own.
    The offense will be great but they won't be able to always outscore the other team. Questionable defense in front of bad goaltending is a recipe for disaster. But it's hockey, anything can happen. If Talbot can get hot in the 1st half like last year, Lyon could get hot the moment Talbot gets cold. This season will rely on goaltending for the Red Wings. If they don't get a miracle in net, they're screwed.

    Due to this, I think they will "overperform".
    However, once they get that satisfaction, they will regress and not make the playoffs the following year, along with all of the young guys making the team.

    Husso had a fantastic stretch two years ago then fizzled out. Then last year he got a bunch of injuries.
    Lyon had a fantastic stretch last year then fizzled out.
    Not only do I not understand the concerns on Husso, but the confidence in Lyon is also too rapid.
    Husso obviously rushed back too quickly on multiple occasions. He's had the summer to recover and even just had an absolutely fantastic outing against Pittsburgh's A-squad in the pre-season.
    Lyon, Talbot and Husso could be a legitimate trio who cycle through 30ish games each this season.
    The goaltending is a definitive upgrade over last year, non-debatable.
    That being said, I am still nervous for the forward and d-core structure. I don't understand why so many people are nervous about the goaltending, but the d-core and forwards are much more concerning.

I think they need to stop with the old “veteran” forwards and let the kids come up and play. I’d rather get worse record-wise and have them play at a higher level since most of them are ready. What’s really concerning is the defense, because we have Mo/Edvinsson and that’s about it for the future. ASP has extremely high potential as an offensive defenseman but we need some behemoths who can actually play D. The wings have to be top 5 weakest defenses in the league not only by defenseman but just as a team playing in their D zone, and no goalie is going to want to play here with that.

    Based on last season and this kff season i just do not feel like the Red Wings have done enough to overtake the capitals in the standings, who overtook (barely sure but did nonetheless) them last year. Everyone can cry and moan that "oh philly shouldnt have pulled the goalie they were already out wah wah" but at the end of the day, the Capitals did what they needed to to make the playoffs and the Red Wings (everyone conveniently misses this part when they complain about that) pissed away a playoff spot about 2 months before philly pulled the goalie. GM Macllelan looked at his needs and addressed them. GM Yzerman looked at his contracts and signed them. Thats the difference, in my mind at least.

    Stay the course with GM and coach. I don't care about how they did last year using a bunch of rentals. I care more about how they do with the core that is in place and the young guys coming up to join it. Agree about Walman, wish they had kept him. Otherwise its time to have the prospects move in and take a couple of spots on the roster and pray Cossa is soon a top goalie in the NHL. Culture is important. I don't want to be a talent laden team the under-performs. We don't have enough generational talent for that anyway. I don't want to be a perpetual playoff team that never gets far like Minnesota. So we need a great culture that gets the most of the talent it has. And great goal-tending.

    Yes as wings fans we all should be worried...still not a playoff team especially in goal lol they got worse! I stopped drinking the yzerplan kool-aid a long time ago and tired of hearing the clowns on Woodward especially McCarty blindly glazing and sucking off his former teammate and captain like he's still on the roster. Almost 10 years into this rebuild and missing the playoffs mainly by their own doing and head scratching moves by yzerman. I'll say it...he got/gets way too much credit for his time in Tampa Bay...he walked into a lot of that as a lot of parts were already there and he low balled stamkos and funny enough they did it to him again this offseason. Yzerplan my ass...but when they miss the playoffs again I can't wait to see the apologists come out yet again blindly defend him and this team...still pretty much no D and piss poor goalies...seriously...Cam Talbot? HAHHAHAAAHAHAHA #deadwings not being a downer I'm just being realistic....the Atlantic division is a dog fight and ottawa and buffalo will be better and one of then likely will get a playoff spot and lets not forget at some point Larkin like always will go down again at some point and again his absence will kill this team at the worst possible time with debrincat being streaky and going cold as that's his game he will be hot then he goes too long without a goal etc. lol I love the wings always have but this team is not a playoff team expect more of the same of a streaky team but then getting dog walked by better teams and it will be ugly. Raymond isn't a 40 goal guy he's solid but he's not that guy i don't even think him and mo will finish out their deals here.

And there's no way we could've made the splash people wanted us to make on 1 July and still be able to afford Raymond and Seider. My only expectation for the team is they actually *compete*. We saw far too many times last year where they took a lead only to give it up, or they came out flat and never recovered, or they left Lyon out to fend for himself. If we clean some of that up, we'll be fine.
