It's a Native American tradition to spear fish like this. They would take buffalo skins, cover themselves over a hole in the ice and spear fish. By us they spear Sturgeon. The lake is pretty shallow so it makes it easier to spear. Sturgeon by us gets around 7 feet and around 200 lbs.

I think I was 3 or 4 my first time, tgise is the first time I've seen someone do a spearhole by hand and auger and we'd slide the ice block under not pull it up

We go up to Higgins Lake Michigan every year and pike spear it is 20 ft deep and is crystal clear. We pike spear all the time to almost once a week in the winter
