  • Thank you for your support! Much love from Singapore!
    What you'll need:
    Hard Boiled Egg Method
    hard boiled egg
    ziplock bag
    PATIENCE!
    Liver of Sulphur Method
liver of sulphur gel / rocks
    two basins
    baking soda
To achieve the accents I have used jeweller's polishing cloth, damp microfiber cloth, toothpaste.
    To Remove Patina
rub toothpaste with a toothbrush or a cloth
create a paste with baking soda and some lemon juice. rub with tooth brush or cloth
cape cod cloth (will create a protective film, resisting future patina. Use toothpaste/lemon juice after this)

    Your Steinhart's patina looks fantastic.

I like the end result, I think the egg method gives the best result of all. Lemon juice is also a good way of removing the Patina and the easiest to return the original look.

Yep, the egg method is also the most convenient. Lemon juice is great! Just needs a bit of elbow grease.

    I turned my watch *BLACK!*
I tried doing the egg method on a brass Maranez Bangla watch. It has a really light color of blasted brass. Well I did the egg method over night and it turned the watch somewhat darker but not evenly. It was splotchy. I didn't really like the look. so I decided to try something else.
I did the egg thing again (2 hard boiled eggs) but this time in the tupperware container I also poured in a healthy amount of vinegar and some salt. But on a block I suspended the watch up above it all so it was not resting in liquid at all and not touching the eggs at all. I left that overnight in a closed tupperaware container. To my surprise! The next day the watch was *BLACK.* Like all black. No real visible trace of brass. I didn't even know that was a possibility.
So I was quite surprised to see that. I kind of like it! It's like suddenly having a new watch that's black. I don't know if I will keep it that way indefinitely but for now i am liking it.

The idea of a bronze watch let it age naturally

My thoughts exactly. Leave it naturally and it'll be unique

Did you use a special polishing cloth to lighten up the accents? I've seen a few that said they are for silver... others said gold and so on... none of them said bronze so in wondering what your thoughts are on this.

Does the liver of sulfur have an effect on the anti reflective coating on the crystal...?

I have a concern that if the patina doesn't turn out the way you want and you want to remove it won't the "cape cod polishing cloth" or any other form of polishing, tooth paste, brasso, Flitz, ect. remove the brushed finish (if the watch has it)? And you will come out with a "polished finish" on your watch instead of a brushed finish?
Thank you for the very descriptive video, well done. Also, I have this wax called "Renaissance Wax" I use on my knives to protect and preserve finish I wonder how it would work on a patinated watch
if you want to seal the finish so as to keep it preserved the way you like. Has anyone tried it? Not sure if it remove patina or preserve it...looks like time for me to start experimenting.

Hey there! Yes cape cod may remove the brushed finishing, but for a bronze piece, especially cusn8 bronze, it patinas so quickly that the original finish doesn't matter as much. Thanks for the tip on the wax too!

Will the acidity bite into the gasket?
