I just picked it up this morning along with Further Adventures of Red Sonja and Absolute Watchmen. Instocktrades didn't have the variant cover. so I went with the regular cover. I am thankful for folks like you who gives us indepth previews of omnis because I like to see the artwork before I make a purchase. Lots of great stuff being released this year! I can't wait for the Ms. Marvel Omnibus. I picked up the Marvel Masterworks volumes, but I am glad they are collecting everything in one big book. I can't wait for New Teen TItans vol 4 by George Perez and MWC Savage She Hulk Vol 2. Ugh, my wallet is going to take a hit this year.
Awesome vid - thanks for posting! God I can't wait until the third Omni comes out. That John Buscema goodness and all the Belit / Zula era stories. My favorite!
I'm with you. That was the run that made me a Conan fan. It also made me seek out the source material and read all the prose novels. Thank you Roy Thomas.
Looking forward to receiving the Conan Omnibus later this week. I can remember buying the originals new off the rack back in 1970 and for a number or years. Thanks for the review.
@@NearMintCondition No. I got out of comics in High School(didn't everybody?) and got back into them in the 80's when a couple of friends at work pulled me back in. Got back out in 2001 when I started to collect the Marvel Masterworks. I sold my comic collection on ebay from 2003 to 2008.
@@NearMintCondition Started the masterworks back in "89. When they started them back up in 2002/03? I decided to sell off my collection of comics. I do collect the DC Omnibuses.
I was on the fence until you mentioned boobs and dragons. Seriously though thank you for taking the time to really show the art because that is what made me buy it.
I've got this on order, unfortunately it's the Cassaday cover, but it is what it is. I'm in for the first volume of Savage Sword as well, but I don't know how long I'm gonna keep with the releases. Gonna have to actually read them quick to make a decision on that.
I bought these off the rack in the seventies and still have some of the early Barry Smith Marvel Conan's in my collection. Read and still have the first paperback Lancer editions (Frazetta covers!) of REH's Conan series. Back when I was twelve or so. 50 years ago in fact.
I also bought the Conan The Barbarian Omnibus DM variant. I've never read Conan before, I'm excited to read it. I'm also excited for The Savage Sword of Conan. I want to pre-order Savage Sword of Conan through DCBService but it looks like it's not up for pre-order yet. I might just have to buy it from IST when it's released.
It does look very sharp without the cover. I haven't got mine yet in the mail. Ended up with the Cassiday cover which is pretty bland but the 55% discount on IST versus 45% got me to make my choice. Ended up spending that 10% difference of $12.50 on another trade I had in my wishlist. The $125 retail for a 775 page book seems a little steep. Like you said they know they will make up for it with the niche die-hard Conan fans like myself. I do already own all the Roy Thomas DH trades of this series so I'm looking forward to compare the coloring between the two formats. These releases reminds me of those Master Of Kung Fu books that came out a couple years ago which were also at $125 for four fairly thin Omni's. They only had a short window for licensing the publication of those books before they go out of print so they figured it was justified for that niche market as well.
I'm so glad you found a positive in getting other trades, brother. These Conan books though, they are going to be burning a hole in my pocket when they come out every few months. :)
It doesn't seem there's too much crossover between this and the Savage Sword omni's, is that right? I have savage sword omni 1 and am really enjoying it, especially Barry Windsor Smith's art, and this book has pretty much all his Conan work right? I see they're publishing this in paperback later this year but not at the same page count, and they're doing the Giant Size Conan on it's own too so maybe they'll cover it in two editions with Giant Size separate and I don't know whether it'll have all the extras
It reads different of course but both the DH and Marvel comics are based on the stories and novels. Yeah...man 10 volumes at the very least of just The Barbarian.
Another stellar review :) I read a lot of these as a kid and I remember my older brother letting me read his Savage Sword and other magazines at the time that were big, like Heavy Metal and such. CGN has it for 40% off.
What’s CGN?
Lol! I ended up buying it, but from Amazon. Two day delivery is good.
I'm 3 years too late. Would have loved to buy this version, but now it's $500
I just preordered "Conan The Barbarian: The Original Comics Omnibus Vol.1" for 125$. I am not totally sure how much it differences from "Marvel Years" but we will see it during the summer I guess.
@@MietoK Where from?
Did you just call me a Minty?
Oh yeah yeah
Hellz yeah, I did!
How is this in terms of violence?
Nothing too crazy like Berserk. But Savage Sword definetely has more violence.
Near Mint Condition thanks
Near Mint Condition so DH, this one or savage sword? What’s more “brutal”? I don’t wanna look like a crazy violence guy but Conan IS a savage...sooooo...
@@gxvault4166 Nothing wrong with that, brother. Savage Sword is the one you want, but keep in mind its black and white.
@@NearMintCondition :( DANG
Nice work Omar with the Conan Omnibus. Nice to see that your copy came in. My copy won't be coming in until Thursday. I got interested in the Omnibus because of the movies from the 80's with Arnold Schwarzenegger and I've always wanted to read the Marvel version of Conan.
That is for sure one of my favorite movies of all time. Movie Conan was a badass!!!! Punching horses and camels.
Arnold Schwarzenegger killed Wilt Chamberlain. I much rather the old school Conan movies than the Conan remake that came out a few years ago.
You're in for such a treat.
Great collection, sadly, the redone coloring is way too bright and flashy
I think it was a better restoration than the DH books.
@@NearMintCondition Ok, I read some reviews where I was advised to by the DH TPBs instead (I didn‘t). I trust your judgement. Maybe a comparison between the versions (original, DH, Marvel) could be a future topic and helpful for interested collectors 😉
Are you a marvel legends man 👍👍
I used to be and then I had to get rid of them to make more shelf space for other things.
Yes I know what you mean I stated last year on my collection and it’s hard to keep control sometimes 😊😊😊
Always hard to keep that stuff in check, brother. :)
10 omnis? my god... :o
Yeah...quite a commitment.
Shit I think I ate too much
